South Korean president on dealing with North Korea and Kim Jong Un

North Korea will be at the top of the agenda next week when President Trump welcomes new South Korean President Moon Jae-in for a White House summit. In his first one-on-one interview since being elected, President Moon spoke with Norah O'Donnell about his approach to solving the crisis with North Korea.

Fact: President Moon was an outstanding member of the (famous) Korean Marines Special Forces. He then went on to become a civil rights lawyer, serving those underprivileged citizens who could not afford lawyers. Besides his gentle facade is a tough yet kind soul.

God bless both countries... USA and Korea Republic (KOR). But Norah made a big mistake by saying "allow you to negotiate" and "get a permission from Trump"?? Korea Republic and President Moon don't need any approval from USA. Norah should be responsible what she said about this. Moon will have his support from his people for this inter dialogue summit and I wish both Trump and Moon best of luck. And you guys in CBS make Korea Republic look so much dangerous to live in. Well, you konw what? New York, Detroit or Chicago would be more dangerous than living in Korea Republic with all those ghettos and guns!

The pre-emptive strike can only happen when the South Korean government allows the strike. Seoul is one of the most heavily concentrated cities in terms of population in the world. We are talking about A LOT of people. Given that, a pre-emptive strike would lead to escalation, leading to the possible high level of casualties and deaths. So it is understood that there are US troops in S. Korea, but it is not prudent and sapient to risk many lives in an effort to save US nationals in South Korean soil where more domestic nationals will be killed due to it.

President Moon makes absolute sense. There is a need to talk. A pre-emptive strike by the U.S. would create a grave risk to the people of S Korea. Since it's capital is only about 30 miles from the border with 42% of it's population, it is in artillery range. China might intervene to take out the missile defense system

I'm honestly very disappointed about this news, First of all, "Do you believe he is a mad man?" WTF the quality of question. The personal attribute of him is not a concern here, whether or not Kim's delusional psychopath or whatever, if he realize it's only his loss to continue military provocation, he'll stop. And America, South Korea, China, Japan, Russia all of us failed to persuade him this message. Second of all, "Peace agreement" means NO UNIFICATION. It means acknowledging NK as a sovereign state and ending the war. NK is defined as "anti-state organization" according to South Korean law. GOD!!! I'm surprised by CBS's lack or information. Take a look at big picture, and really deliberate why NK is making all this aggression.

Most Koreans think reunification should happen but it's not like a real urgent yearning more like the really vague image of the future far, far off into the horizon. When we watch movies on the Korean War or Korean history before then, we kind of emotionally reminisce over how nice it would be if the split never happened - but that's really for that 15 minutes. For the average Korean North Korea is really just as foreign as it is to other countries - since our media and education even just 20 years ago made fun of North Korea, even demonizing it as an uncivilized, brainwashed place. Also, since North Korea is really poor, when reunification happens our economy that we have worked so hard to build will be stripped to about 60% of what it is now if we have to share the wealth with the starving North Koreans. I'm being blunt here, but a lot of people in Korea think that, and with employment rates being so low and competition in society at a crazier level than ever before, no generation really wants to be the first to take up that task.

I ask you people to read and acknowledge this. There are many victims from World War Two in Asia (from Japanese Imperial Army) as there are in other parts of the world and this is not being acknowledged as you about Europe and States, in fact Japan is denying their crime and USA is doing nothing but help them for their greed, corruption and the competition against China and Russia. And North Korea is an important element to this competition. One of the main reasons why Moon became president was because of this issue, not because of North Korea. Even though this is the one of the main reasons why he was chosen to be the president of Republic of Korea, major media channels in Sates (such as CBS) are obviously not making any interview videos or highlight about this matter, this is serious corruption that we must all know. I am not asking much but I am asking you to acknowledge that there are victims from World War Two still out there who are still alive who have been brutally tortured and raped and they are mentally struggling to continue their lives because of it. President Moon will HOPEFULLY do some good work for remaining World War Two victims in Korea to receive sincere apology from Japan (Japanese Government). Thank you very much for reading my comment.

I don't like president Moon's answer to the question this lady reporter asked him: "Is Kim Jung Eun a madman?; Kim Jung Eun is an irrational person." He might seem irrational from our perspective, but he is not. He's actually playing the best card in his hand to protect his regime from America. What's important here is not whether there's a chance America will invade North Korea to dismantle the Kim's dictatorship but North Koreans believe so having observed what happened in Afghan and Iraqi wars. He is a terrified rat and nuclear armament is his last resort right now. The only way President Moon will be able to talkKim Jung Eun out of his nuclear program, I believe, would be to make him believe that the possibility of America's invasion grows as he sticks to the nuclear program.

KJU may very well be playing a game of chicken with the United States. Halting or severely impeding his program doesn't require an invasion, though. We could hit his facilities on the coast producing nuclear and missile devices, and we could shoot down each test he fires, thus depriving him of data from which to build future models and finally miniaturize his warhead. Iraq was a preventative war, to keep Saddam from possibly using WMDs, but his "WMDs" (that he turned out to not have) weren't so easily targeted as Kim's are.

Pezfeo it is not true. we all know we should reunify soon in a peaceful way. we just know it is not easy but we have to. Korea has been one country for thounds years, separated for only 64 years.

Pezfeo Generally speaking, old wants reunification more than younger gen. But even if we can't be a one, there should be a way to be together peacefully as separate countries. otherwise both of land's will be in fire like 50's sad history

Are you for real? Did you say "save south korea"? Plz get out of your fantasy that US is a favorable god for S Korea. They just want Thaad for S Korea to stay silently under the hegemony of the USA and be far away from China. Even Trump neglected the agreement that US would pay for the Thaad which is for US army in the first place! But We, Korea need a time for the legistrative process which is so understandable and just nevertheless, Do we need a permission of Trump? How dare you!
