the railways are connected, but the railways in North Korea are poorly managed, I'm not sure if trains can go higher than 30km/h without risking an accident... Oh well it's South Korea I'm pretty sure they can fix the entire North Korean railway in mere months.

One thing I like about S. Korea is their transportation prices are very reasonable. For over 2 hours on the train for $22 is cheap. I rode the ktx from Seoul to Busan in 2012 and it was great. Clean, fast and very smooth ride.

I have lived in SK for three years and it's a great country. I've been to the border twice. Trains can be hit and miss from the most basic Mugunghwa to the modern and fast KTX high speed trains. I love the fact that they are so affordable compared to Western European fares. I lived about an hour from Seoul, so would use the cheapest trains. If going to Busan or anywhere far on the high speed lines then I'd use the high speed lines

2+2 is not natural for 1st class, but if the fare is reasonable I think it does not matter, because we use 1's class just due to the shortage of the available seat not for the more comfortable travel because normal(2nd?) class also very good enough for a travel within several hours. I guess the difference is only the good Display and watching KZread on it. I have a phone for KZread watching and in Korea there is no place isolated from Internet with phone. Ye, Phone has a small size display.

E-um is a second fastest train in SK among active commercial trains. SK developed Hemu-430X in 2013 which runs 420Km max but it never got into service. I guess it is too fast and SK is a small country to make it commercial. However a Korean press has reported that is going to service in 2025 on new O-song to Pyeongtack line. The E-um is 260+Km train made by the tech of Hemu 430X

Korail, which operates ktx and rail lines, has a cumulative deficit of about $12 billion. The big reason for this deficit is that it has not raised rail fares in the past 12 years and operates lines without abolishing passengers. On the other hand, China Rail Corporation's total debt is $1 trillion and Japan's railways have been privatized, but rail fares are more than three times that of Korea.

@@shanjida8353 Simply calculating, it is 110km/h as Cheongnyangni-Andong distance is 220km. The train runs 260km(the maximum speed) only a few minutes. The strength of KTX-eum is that power is distributed to all carts and it accelerates better than other trains. What a coincidence. Not only did the same DMZ tour last July but my first train journey was from Cheongnyangni -Yangpyeong on one of the new KTX trains. Did subsequent journeys from Yangpyeong -Gangneung on the new section via Pyeongchang (incredible engineering, which allowed the train to get up to proper speed) and also Seoul-Gyeongju on the older TGV style train. This vlog brought back happy memories (including the Starfield Shopping Mall tower in the distance - minute 10:15). New trains are very impressive and certainly an improvement on the older style TGV trains. Great wifi on board and the wireless phone chargers are such a good design. Many thanks for this - really enjoyed seeing it all again. 🇰🇷👍

[1 wrong information] Cheongnyangni Station has 4 subway(metro) lines: line 1, Gyeongui·Jungang Line, Gyeongchun Line, Suin·Bundang Line Although Cheongnyangni station has 4 subway lines, two of them(Gyeongchun Line, Suin·Bundang Line) act almost as branch or extension. You should check the arrival timing of the train before using this two lines because the train comes almost every 1~2 hours. Also, stations near seoul have lots of passengers. It's hard to lift up a platform while peoples are using them. That's why they couldn't make flat level boarding. ps. Cool Video! Nice!

Cool video! The train amenities look great and the induction charger slots are a wonderful addition. But, did it go high-speed at some point? 2 hours for 220km is quite slow (average of 110kph, even a little under a regular speed train with lots of stops) and 5 stops on such distance is a bit disconcerting when you're used to the common stop spacing on the French or Spanish networks. Was the high-speed line unavailable that day ? Or was the high-speed stretch only further down the line after your station ?

The Korean trains are doing away with dining carts due to high labor cost. It just doesn't make sense to hire a person and pay upward of $3000.00 USD and other benefit package cost additional 1000. Also, trains in Korea don't take that long. Water dispensing is all you need. And many departing train stations already have good tasting food options available.

That's train is modern comparing to the TGV based, but it's surprising me when they use same seating configuration between First and Second Class with the difference is legroom and in seat amenities. Like Simply Railways, really appreciate you managed well about video recording around many random people as in Eastern Asia, it's very strict about privacy. Anyway can't wait for another trip report in South Korea, especially how to going to DMZ, trying Mugunghwa, or trying other transportation as well.

Its actually called business class i think, lower than 1st class but higher than standard class, and 20% cheaper The 320kph, 8 car trains that will be introduced also has these instead of first class, and it makes sense for this because travel times are at most 2 hours and 40 minutes, and you don't really need that much comfort, while switching to business class would allow for more passenger capacity and therefore more revenue The short travel time is also why there arent any catering cars anymore too.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video. I was fortunate to have spent 9 months working in Korea in 1999. Loved the people. Loved the food. Once a week, I flew between Seoul and Yosu on the southern tip of the peninsula in Business Class. There was less legroom than in the Second Class on this train! Have you had a chance to take the subway in Seoul during rush hour? They use push men, like you see in Japan. I once missed my exit by three stops because I literally couldn't move, it was so crowded. But then, street traffic is even worse. It once took me 2 1/2 hours in a taxi to go 6 km. I eventually just got out and walked.
