SOUTH DAKOTA FAVS: MOUNT RUSHMORE & IRON MOUNTAIN ROAD

🛣️Stan and Rhonda from Over the Hill Adventures spend their last full day in Custer State Park. On this adventure, they leave their RV behind and travel on the one-of-a-kind historic Iron Mountain Road. This famous and iconic road starts in Custer State Park and ends at Mount Rushmore. With historic Pigtail Bridges and rock tunnels that were perfectly planned to give a traveler the perfect view of Mount Rushmore as they exit the tunnel, this road is a true work of art. One of the main reasons Stan and Rhonda traveled across the country to South Dakota was to see Mount Rushmore. Stan who immigrated to the United States as a baby always wanted to see this iconic American manmade wonder of the world. Stan took pride in becoming a citizen of such an incredible and beautiful free country in 1986. No matter what views exists today, we will always be One Nation Under God and may God Bless America!

We are with you guys, our days of tent type camping were over years ago. Our definition of roughing it is dry camping. Rushmore was definitely spectacular, on the trail we could see up Washington’s nose. It is absolutely amazing how it was built. We have learned more history on this trip than we did while in school. Luckily we were able to drive up to mount Coolidge lookout, the view was amazing. Butch and Becky 😀😀

Hi Guys, yes for a short time after our Class A we went back to tent camping and then to a conversation van for a little while. Those days are behind us. We also had learned so much history. I can tell you the men back then are not the same men of today. Those are the same kind of men that build Hoover Dam. We are in such awe of the things they did back then. I’m glad you got to drive up Coolidge lookout. Just another thing you can just drive by. It was closed but Milley the camp host told us we could ride our bikes or walk. I’m so glad we did. Thank you for joining us. Much love and blessings to you both, Stan and Rhonda

Hello Robert, thank you we are so glad you enjoyed our adventure to Mt. Rushmore. This was super important! It was something I have always wanted to do as a small child. We heard they had that night ceremony. When we were there they did not have that at night. That was probably a very emotional experience. Thank you for sharing. To think it took me until I was 61 years old to see this beautiful country. Away from the news there is still some beautiful people out there. Blessings, Stan and Rhonda

Another great video! We had not heard of iron mountain road and after seeing this we will definitely check it out. Also like how you covered the parking and other logistics elements of Mt Rushmore, that's very useful info for people planning a trip and often times people just focus on the mountain itself and skip over this part. As to the question of tent camping /popup - not for us in the last 20 years or so.. prior to that we used to occasionally. Great job!
