We're making a mistake that, when corrected, points to one important reason why Dawn was able thrive after losing all five starters from last year. In last year's WNBA Draft, the second SC player taken was a reserve -- Laeticia Amihere at No. 8 to the Atlanta Dream. Four starters and one reserve were drafted, not all five starters. The same would happen this year if all of the key Gamecocks were draft eligible. Reserves Ashlyn Watkins, Tessa Johnson and MiLaysia Fulwiley would probably be drafted ahead of some of their starters.

It used to be, but it is a lot more parity in women basketball today. The greatness of South Carolina is losing your top 7 players and taking new starters and freshmen (that is a young team) and becoming undefeated champions. They didn't get the coverage that is normally given to the champions. Staley talks about quitting and the team said that they were pitiful during the summer, but then it clicked. Nobody expected this.

Why did Caitlan Clark get more shine than the entire South Carolina women's basketball team? Nielsen ratings determine what's being watched and what's not. Which racial group in this country has the most viewers? White people. So it stands to reason that when lots of white people tune in, the program or event does well in the ratings. The championship game between South Carolina and Iowa averaged 18.7 million viewers. Making it the highest-rated basketball game--collegiate or professional--in the last five years. Iowa versus LSU averaged 12.3 million viewers, and Iowa versus UConn averaged 14.2 million viewers. The common denominator? Caitlan Clark. According to the Nielsen ratings, American viewers wanted to see Caitlan. I'd argue that primarily means white American viewers. But, not only is that not a bad thing, it's to be expected. Most people, if they're honest, prefer seeing people who look like them do well. Caitlan is white America's darling, but she's also a great player who deserves to receive tons of attention. Raven Johnson's Revenge Tour upstaged white America's Revenge Tour. See, white America wanted Caitlan to humble Angel Reese after Angel's You-Can't-See-Me taunt last year. Most of white America (that watches women's college basketball) has despised Angel ever since, and I'm willing to bet that they've been calling her everything but "Bayou Barbie." Caitlan and Iowa got revenge on Angel and LSU, but South Carolina kept white America from the happy ending it craved. Caitlan Clark has received more attention than the team that beat her team. How much MORE attention would she be getting if Iowa had won! Caitlan's gotten more attention than South Carolina's entire team because while white Americans across the country love her, few of them outside of South Carolina give a damn about Dawn Staley's team. America has always made race its primary consideration, so Black Americans shouldn't be surprised that it's happened here.

All of this start last season and popping off after the National Championship game. Clark is not the only one who helped the women's game evolve. Reese, Cardoso, Jackson, Bueckers, JuJu, Brink, and so on. As far as Aja not getting a shoe deal, it's unfortunate. Cheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Candace Parker, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Dawn Staley herself received shoe deals. Stop all this race bait. Thats 886 attempts divided by 39 games. her efficiency was pretty damn good for a guard. So if she shot 45% from the field and only 37% from the three point line means she shot well over 50% from inside the 3. so I think you do have something against her. I think it's time for everyone to grow up and stop blaming everything on race. Just let it die on both sides. Especially people in the media. This woman hating on Caitlin Clark because she white and complaining the the SC team needs more attention because they mostly black. Why bring race into it? If you want to give attention to USC that's great! Do it! Leave race out. USC is a mix of black, white, Brazilian,etc... you never hear anyone on this team complaining about race...they just go out and do what they do! Focus on what's important. Racism will never die as long as people like this keep up the narrative. When you do this you are purposely drawing a line in the sand dividing God's children. It doesn't have to be that way. 90% of the racial division in this country comes from the media. They feed on it. They want to keep us divided.
