Wow! Great insights. Thank you for your hard work. I note Boitha's suggestion that we do lots of research. Even so, would you both put me in touch with your school or recruiter? I've resigned twice and got ready to come to China but it didn't work out. In one case they stopped communicating with me, then the recruiter said the school had shut down. In another case, the recruiter was trying to get me to travel without a visa. I've spoken to two people who were in China, but something appears to go wrong once people get there. One, a prospective teacher that I met at the Chinese Embassy in SA was just never able to put me in touch with her recruiter. Another teacher who was in China and a personal friend of a mutual friend was willing to talk at length with me but refused point blank when I wanted to be put in touch with another teacher they had recruited.

Very good content! May I ask a question. I am a foreign national living in the US and thinking of pursuing a career as an ESL teacher. I am in a dilemma. I can either pay 5k enroll for TEFL at the University of Georgetown or pay 1.2k and do it with The TEFL Academy. When securing a job overseas, does the name of the institution or the university carry a big weight when securing an employment? Thank you.

@@Sasha-vl1ol Hi no it doesn’t but in the long term it might be beneficial to get it from a top institution. There’s a free one from Teacher record and one that cost about $12 from TEFL universal. They both give you virtual certificates. Which in South Africa doesn’t give you any problems down the line but I’m not sure how it’ll be in the US

Thank you! I watched few videos about teaching in Thailand which adviced, given the huge competition, to pursue in-person TEFL certification. I am also studying Spanish and French and my background has been in the restaurant management/service business. But unfortunately the pay does not seem good to do it overseas. And I would love to become a youtube content creater. And came across accidentally your and other videos about teaching abroad. I used to be a head of English club at high school and wondered, why not. I have been working with people all my life. Have a gift for languages. Both parents are language teachers. Just like your friend in this video. I was thinking of Arabic Emirates, maybe countries in Latin America. I am excited, worried, scared even. But deep down keep searching myself. Hopefully, this is the right path forward. ❤
