I am Irish born and dragged up(bred) as they say, and ive just binge watched a lot of your videos , and its a great reminder of how beautiful our country and landscape really is , which when you live here we sometimes take for granted . I've travelled a lot with the military mainly middle East and west Africa, I've since retired from the Army but that experience makes me appreciate what we have here. Hope everything works out for you both and only 3and half years before you can get the 6th best passport in the world LOL .

Great video. I have been here 6 months and was lucky to have PPSN no sorted through my employer. But still had a bit of issue opening a bank account. The advice of my Irish boss is excellent though: try to speak to a human. The bureaucracy is real but the moment you get to speak to an actual person, they usually can help. Wish I had know it was so great here. I am 52 and wish I had moved years ago!

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, I'm back in Ireland 🇮🇪 now after a long time in the USA 🇺🇸 ,I found it very hard to adjust back into Ireland again, I left the old Ireland and returned to the New Ireland and its very different to what I left behind in 1989 ,much better place, its just as you say multicultural even in a small town and not just EU 🇪🇺 people, even a few Springbok jerseys around town, so happy your part of our crazy band of islanders...

Lived the first 24 years of my life in Ireland though in a different era ....living in South Africa now and as happy as a pig in the proverbial . Also did the Alberton/Brackenhurst thing for a time when it was a beautiful area.

There is a good aspect to the unpredictable weather, showers and sun and wind etc, in Ireland. And that is if the weather was good, sunny and warm for most of the year there would be hotels everywhere all along the coast and in every hill and valley in the country. When the weather is good in Ireland it is easy to find a quiet beach, a hill, a walking trail that you can enjoy without the crowds of tourists. There are hotels and tourists but they do not dominate the landscape. There are plenty of open spaces, amazing sunsets, wild seas, rugged cliffs and hills and people who have time to chat with you. And in mid summer the sun doesn't set until 10pm and it is still not dark an hour later. And then of course, there is always a pub nearby for when it rains.

Yes, Ireland imports a multitude of goods and it is listed in the top ten most expensive countries to live in now. I love Cork and was happy to return here after working for 23 years abroad, but I can see how your concerns are valid.

I think that when it comes to eating out etc people compare prices to cheaper countries, mostly the Mediterranean countries-Irish people do this as well. However it’s worth remembering two things namely (I) eating out is not, in general, part of Northern European culture and (ii) countries that are cheaper will also have lower salaries so the cost of eating out in comparison to disposable income isn’t necessarily as wide as it seems. So while I’m not saying that Ireland isn’t expensive, I think that sometimes people are not comparing ‘like with like’. What seems really cheap to me in, say, Spain isn’t necessarily as cheap to Spaniards on their salaries. One of my brothers lives in Norway and earns what seems to us here in Ireland a great salary. However, his disposable income isn’t great as everything is more ‘expensive’ than here in Ireland so when he and my nephews come to Dublin every year for a holiday they bring almost empty suitcases and hit Penneys and Dunnes and return to Oslo with a year’s supply of jeans, t-shirts, underwear etc. Also when I visit Oslo I just hand over money without thinking about what I’m actually spending because if I did I’d probably have a nervous breakdown!

This is definitely a valid point and the perspective here is that there is a culture of eating out where we are from and so it was obviously an adjustment. On the up side, I am a great cook now 😅

Hi! So question... When you moved, did you move with only two suitcases each? Or did you move a whole bunch of stuff? What are some things you wish you had brought with and things you rather had left (books? Clothes? Sentimental items? Cosmetics)

Hi Madeleen - yes we only moved with clothes and a couple of odd bits. To be honest there isn’t one thing I wish I had left or taken. We did get very very lucky with our apartment having everything you need to live. We are going home in 2023 to back up our storage unit and ship everything we have in SA to Ireland so I am sure when we are going through that process we might have a couple of regrets.

Make sure you both integrate properly into Ireland 🇮🇪 it's called respect. Everything from learning the Irish language, history, culture, work and pay your taxes etc. Most people when they immigrate couldn't give a shit about the country they move to. Be grateful to the irish 🇮🇪

Most Irish people don’t speak the Irish language well, and these guys seem like exemplary immigrants to me. They are welcome to our country.

I must confess that sometimes I am a bit jealous of you guys, I am Irish born and bred and have never been to Cork, for example, as it’s at the other end of the country. You cover a serious amount of ground! Otherwise I largely agree with your observations. The Irish weather frequently gives us the four seasons in one day! And some aspects of the bureaucracy can be a pain. For instance, I know people who drove as part of their jobs in Australia for years, but had no no claims bonus on their return to Ireland, as their insurance records weren’t recognized. Likewise with the stuff on opening a bank account and emergency tax… I do feel Ireland is in a decent geographical position, however. You can fly anywhere in Europe within three hours, and mercifully we don’t get many extreme weather events, such as tornadoes, hurricanes or droughts. There’s an amazing continent for you guys to discover and you can do it at your leisure! If you get the chance, I would encourage you to get out in the community during one of your Irish Christmases, as there’s usually a lot going on around then and it’s a great way to meet new people and see another side to the culture.

How to find rent home ??

Hi guys welcome to Ireland and I wish you happiness and every success here. The housing and rental crisis is particularly acute at present due to Putins attack on Ukraine. We're currently hosting about 50,000 Ukrainian refuges, mainly women and children who are fleeing a terrible war and that figure is likely to increase to 75,000 over winter, so pressure on accommodation is likely to increase and stay that way for another while. If you work in central Dublin and your employer is flexible on home working, you don't necessarily have to live in the city. I work from home 2 or 3 days per week and commute on the train the other days. If you're looking to buy a house or rent, your money should go further outside of Dublin. Yes, the cost of living is high here, but overall salaries are proportionally higher. One advantage of this is that it makes good holidays to Mediterranean countries very affordable where wages aren't as high. In fact, many retired Irish and northern Europeans over Winter in Spain, Portugal, Canaries etc. for the milder weather and the lower cost of living there makes their pensions go a long way. Yep, when you live on an island, flying is the quickest way to get anywhere. The great thing about Europe and having an Irish/EU passport is that a 2 to 3 hour flight will bring you to any one of 30 countries with great culture, history, sun holiday, winter sports etc, whatever your preference is. Finally EUROPEAN Commission President Ursula von der Leyen visited Ireland last week to mark 50 years of the Ireland's membership of the EU. Oh dear, someone always has to bring it up! Give these guys a break! The name for the jurisdiction of the 26 counties is "Ireland", in Irish, Éire. . The geographical name for the island is also "Ireland". If these folk had moved to NI then I assume they would be talking about moving to "the UK". And NI is not a "country", never has been, wee or otherwise, but an administrative region of the UK.

it was asi.ple question around an observation. As an example, several U.S friends I work with did not know about Ireland and N.I being different, one I in UK and one not. Ans I didn't accuse anyone of anything either.

Ah would ya to stop we had a summer of record temps n I work out doors 30yrs now generally in a t-shirt.Were an island on the edge of Atlantic and we do get dull damp weather buy its nothing
