Beautiful Anthem !!

George Franz was one of the best trumpeters in this National Symphony orchestra during the late 60's and throughout the 70's. He was also a very close friend of our family and teacher to my dad for 15 years in Johannesburg with the National symphony orchestra trumpet (what used to be the South African Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra). My family is desperately trying to locate him to reconnect as George was my dads mentor for 15 years. It would be a miracle if anyone knows where he might be or if he's alive (he'd be an old man now). He was like a father to my dad and they went on to play with the Supremes when they came through South Africa! About him: George Fran was born in Belgium and graduated from the Conservatory of France with honors in the mid 60's before coming to work for your organization. Thank you very much for any info!

I can see my self singing In the bass line, this must almost be 20 years or more. I allwaysed enjoyed singing in the Johannesburg City Hall. Possibly happier times!

Dear South African friends, just saw the comment below, I can't help telling you that the reconciliation process in South African between black and white has been the most extraordinary wonder that human being has experienced recently. White respect black, and black respect white. Such process should be example for all other nations, other peoples to follow, especially in the world full of hatred at the moment. And your anthem, a combination of black and white anthem, is the most striking image of the reconciliation process. It is a gift to the world. Vive Nelson Mandela ! May his spirit live on !

How can it be 1989? The combined anthem being played here had to be 1994 or later after the ANC came to power in April 1994.

Old one was better, in my honest opinion.

I think the old one is more beautiful, however it is in a more solemn way, and I think the new one is better as an anthem because it inspires more pride and is better at sporting events and such. It's a shame the old one is associated with apartheid because it's such a pretty song

I saw one black player but if this is the National orchestra/choir of a mostly black nation, it’s not well represented.

Seems they play Nkosi sikelele reluctantly. the old anthem was way better

As a South African I couldn't help but see the irony of one of the worlds most diverse anthems ever written being sung and played by what looks like a bunch of angry old Afrikaans white people XD lmao for real

Not much diversity in this orchestra and choir. Saw just one black face. Should recruit some talented black, colored and Indian musicians as well.

This recording looks oldish so I’m guessing apartheid must’ve prevented a lot of blacks from becoming talented musicians, if this was recorded now it’d probably be more diverse
