Wouldn't have been possible without Jack Russell's incredible 'blockathon'!! at the other end. At one point Jack didn't score for 75 minutes (73 consecutive 'dot' balls).

One of the best ever played by an England captain (Gooch's 154* v WI and PBH May's 285 spring to mind as well)
Even greats like Sachin or Lara can't even dream of playing such an inning against SA in SA in mid 90s.
Love these types of test cricket days. 1 side trying to fight for a draw the other going all out for the win. 'White ball' supporters would see days such as these as incredibly boring - a true cricket fan would have been absorbed.

I remember it well...
Only Atherton & Dravid would have survived on Day 5 pitch & against top bowling attack. Jack Russell showed amazing character.
