There's growing alarm at the number of kidnappings being reported in South Africa. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Holding people for ransom has become increasingly lucrative against a backdrop of economic hardship and political turmoil - and with the police struggling to get a grip - many South Africans are living in fear of abduction

I visited South Africa 5 years ago. Me and my colleagues were robbed by men pausing as policemen on the highway. They had guns they took our money but did not harm us. Interesting enough we were with a friend whose boyfriend is a Burundian. When they took us to the police station we saw one of the robbers at the police station. He was a policeman 😢

I’m Maggie’s sister and the actual person who appointed the private investigator SSS to assist with locating my sister during the kidnapping. For them to say they assisted with the negotiation is a big lie! It was a team of negotiators from the South African Police that assisted with negotiations. Even though we feel like we have been failed by the Police in the overall recovery of my sister, their efforts in negotiating cannot be ignored! The PI only assisted with some information of the whereabouts of Maggie but nothing that led to us finding Maggie. I understand it’s a marketing strategy but it is wrong for them to overstretch their services to what they didn’t do!

South Africa's crime epidemic has now far surpassed being a police issue. In my opinion it is now a military issue. Since 1994 South Africa has been plagued with violent thugs terrorizing and killing people. The South African government needs to swallow its pride and declare a state of emergency. For goodness sakes, for the safety and well-being of South African, *PUT THE ARMY ON THE STREETS PERMANENTLY* unit the crime issues is resolved. I suggested they utilise a Northern Ireland operation banner type mission. It's long overdue now.

This problem arises from the public's distrust of the police. Many people know who these criminal gangs are, where they live and even what they are planning. However, they are not willing to report them because they fear that; 1. The police will leak their identities, 2. The police won't do anything about it 3. The police themselves are in on the act 4. They see the police as the enemy Stopping rampant organised crime is about creating a community based intelligence network, and that can only be built when there's a trust relationship between the police and the community.

South Africa could have a thriving tourist industry it certainly did a few decades ago, but they have gone down a bad road and things have terribly deteriated in last few decades, whilst apartheid may have been morally questionable at least it was a functioning country, now people are put into government for reasons of colour or family background, this is not a good way, its a pity ANC and others decided on a total and immediate breakaway from apartheid, it should have been done over decades with proper training and institutions upkept to make sure civil control was upheld, I feel sorry for South Africa as it had a great deal to offer and was on a good trajectory now it seems as its heading for chaos and anyone with assets is leaving and once that happens the gangs with take over and it will end in anarchy, bad as it may have been I think apartheid was better

Great video with bad repetaton for me as a South African, I believe SA is a great country, but as a country and individuals if we wanna be successful, we most take responsibilitywe for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability, investment is the key to sustaining our financial longevity and eliminate crimes, There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life, Successful people don't become that way overnight. most people see at a glance-wealth, a great career, purpose-is the result of hard work and hustle over time. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life too 🙏🙏🙏

That man who grabbed the child Ooo we would not take kindly to that at all in my country. One time this man grabbed a little girl who was walking with her younger brother and cousin. The kids chased him and they gathered a crowd who wondered why they were in distress. When the crowd caught up to the man...yh, let's just say in situations like these the police provide a little rescue but even they will beat your a **.

That incident of the child being attacked happened several years ago. The owner of the restaurant, a Muslim of Indian descent happened to have a black belt in jujitsu and held the man until the police came. Apparently the guy committing the crime had severe mental health problems and didn't have a plan to abduct the child.

It has nothing to do with race. It's the economical reasons. Lucrative deals from the west and neo colonialsation is to blame.
