I love the concise thorough instructions. I make a lot of bowl cozies so buy wrap in zap by the bolt. My pellon wrap and zap recommends soaking batting and cotton in hot water for 20 min. Then patting dry (roll in towel) and hand dry to preshrink before cutting. I also use up my jelly roll scraps and sew strips to the size square I need. You could then quilt in the ditch your mini quilt sandwich. Other ideas for free motion quilting would to match theme of fabric such as spider web for Halloween. Fall leaves for fall, snow flakes, candy canes, flowers hearts. Endless possibilities.

I have watched so many bowl cozy tutorials. Yours is the first one that has actually sewn the to pieces together, so they don't come apart when you wash them. I figured to do that 18 months ago, but I do it in the dart seams. I will definitely try your way on the next 10 I'm going to make! Your instructions are very clear! I've got a stack of bowl cozies near my microwave, and use them all the time. When one gets dirty, I just toss it in the laundry--and try to remember to take it out before the dryer. My mom loves these just to hold her chips and snacks. They make great last minute gifts, or hostess gifts. I use polycotton thread and haven't had an issue. I also don't stitch top and bottom together, but I do a good top stitch along the edge. I'd recommend making sure there isn't any glitter or metallic thread in the fabric. Holiday fabric tends to have some shimmer hidden in it.

I have the same Corelle lighthouse dishes. Also I use four layers of nice thick cotton flannel.. It's plenty thick enough, works wonderes, and is 100% cotton. (I bought flannel by the bolt for a quilt, and these I use are the leftover fabric). In addition, I make two shorter x's instead of covering the firist stitches. I sew them to the edges. It makes a very pretty star pattern.

I use a piece of low tacky painter’s tape to mark my stitching line across corner to corner. Stitch to one side and lift the tape and reposition the tape to the other cross corner. The cotton sticks to the tape the first time but won’t distort the batting if you prefer to stitch batting on top. I do because the fluff stays away from feed dogs. That batting can ruin a nice walking foot with fluff.

OK... I haven't tested these yet, but what I think would be appropriate based on various patterns I've seen, is to keep the width of the dart the same, but go down a 1/4" more for each additional inch you add to your square. In my video I'm working with a 10" square and going down 1-3/4", so if you cut a 12" square, go down an extra 1/2" in your dart (2.25"). Hope that helps!

In there I'm going an inch on either side of the half-way point for the dart, which should still be fine for an 11" square, and then I'm going down 2". That should all be good for an 11" template too. Take care & thanks for watching.

Hopefully you have a local sewing machine dealer somewhat close that can help you out. I live out in rural MN so for me one key point was picking a machine that I had a local dealer to service the brand. I do love my Baby Lock machines, but I get it, the price point doesn't work for everyone. When I went looking for a new machine (an upgrade from a simple Singer) I started researching options online and made a list of Must Haves and Nice to Haves. Then, decide on what you are able to afford/willing to spend. Now it's time to go talk to the experts. Be honest with them and don't let them push you into a machine that is more than what you want to spend or need or is so complicated you'll become frustrated with it. Hope that helps!!
