Amazing. I don't know how else I could describe it. I think the first thing people naturally do is try and liken it to a landscape on earth (such as death valley or some other desert landscape), but then you suddenly remember that this whole view is not of this world. Magnificent.

I’m fascinated with the scenery. Really cool. I’m still confused why we are so hell bent on going to Mars let alone try to live there. Humans can only last 80 seconds on Mars. Who want to constantly live in a space suit all the time? There’s plenty of space here on earth to explore.

The Earth is a delicate ecosystem which can go out of balance if we go about exploring (and in the process, damaging) it. If there is no life on Mars, it is basically a blank canvas, one that we can shape to our will ,given time and advances in technology.

@@kevinh6008 Trying to terraform earth in one place leads to chaos in another part. Let me give you an example. There was a proposal to cover 20 percent of the Sahara with Solar panels. It was found that such an action would lead to the complete desertification of the Sahel and part of the Sudan Savannah south of the Sahara as the panels, being as dark as they are, would raise global temperatures by 1.5 degrees. Essentially, green energy on such a scale could actually lead to even more global warming. Irrigating the Kalahari to grow food for example would lead to the presence of moisture in an area not known to have it, it would distort the climate patterns both north and south of it . For example the moisture and resulting humidity there could compel the south east winds to drop their moisture in the Kalahari, meaning the winds would be dry by the time they reach the Congo, literally creating a savannah or desert in an area currently covered by tropical forest . Attempts at terraforming the earth would kill a part of it in the process. As we would be messing with a natural balance that predates us. Mars on the other hand is a blank slate .Terraforming it would mean we would not be concerned that turning the southern highlands into farmland will affect forests on the lower slopes of the Olympus Mons area. We could exploit the minerals in the northern basin of Mars and fully exploit its agricultural potential (the basin has been shown to actually have soil that can support terrestrial life) before terraforming turns the basin into an ocean. We cannot do that here on Earth unless we want to wreak havoc on our marine ecosystems.

@ongakka makke , Barren planet for which we/NASA don't have the advanced technology to overcome: 1. Extreme cold. 2. Deadly levels of solar radiation. As a footnote, according to scientists, even if we were able to dig underground Mars to shield from the dangerous radiation, there is no machinery known to man that could break through the deeply frozen subsurface of Mars. Conclusion: Another few hundred years is needed for our technology to advance far enough to set up shop on Mars.

Bleakness that required an appreciation of science and engineering you can't even *begin* to understand. So......you mock it. Shame.

@@sheiladawg1664 I understand it plenty. I've followed the space program since the Mercury days, and even worked at a NASA center. Mars is still an exotic novelty to most, but when you look at it through practical eyes, it's a dump. Perseverance is a huge technical achievement, but people who romanticize about living there are out of their minds.

@@sheiladawg1664 You wouldn't be able to go anywhere. It's either Earth or extinction, at least in the near term. We were supposed to have a massive, manned spaceship on the way to Jupiter by 2001. We're still a long ways off from that! 😀
