Simon Tilby - In an interview they said that for the 1st album recordings all they used was one Gibson SG and an Orange Thunderverb. So try a guitar with PAF pickups and a pedal that gives an Orange sound or an Orange lunchbox or CR 120 with an EQ pedal

Bass and Drum part ·Steve Harris -Of course, Steve Harris Signature Fender P bass. Flatwound strings are esential -In the early Maiden, Steve used Marshall, but now he prefers Orange amps, like other metal bass players. It gives a crunchy and trusty sound, wich is perfect for that style. The Orange AD200B Mk3 is your amp, all valve, 200 of rockin bass. A OBC410 cabinet by Orange is a nice complementary gear -Another thing wich is very important is the compressor. Boos BC-1X Bass Compressor, it's got a very natural tone ·Nicko McBrain -He is the drummer from 1982, so he should be in this section. The guy who played in the first albums (Iron Maiden, Killers, The Number Of The Beast) was Clive Burr who had a very different style. Nicko has a more jazzy way to kick it, he uses single bass drum and sigle pedal, very Bonham. The antoher most important factor is he sets lots of rack toms, sounding like an army full of horses. You need the arms of the octopus to play like him. -We are busting the bank, so: Sonor SQ1 Rock (24x14 bass drum, 13x9 rack tom and 16x15 floor tom) and some extra 10, 12 and 14 toms by Sonor, if you can find it. Only one floor tom, that 16x15 SQ1 -14x5 Birch snare, I don't find that by Sonor :( -Nicko has a signature Paiste set for around 10.00 dollars, it's got so much crashes. I think that it is not necesary, with only two crashes you can soun like Iron Maiden. 2002 series are good

When the fuck did Steve ever used orange amps? You're totally wrong... He may have used Marshall but he's reknown to have used Hiwatt amps, Peavey mk3 and then a custom built preamp based on the Hiwatt solid state 200 by Alectron...then a DBX 160 compressor.

I have been watching for a few years now but this is the first time I have commented. Sounds Like pulled me into watching all the Andertons playback commentary as a fly on the wall to the Willie Wonka of music clubhouses with all its toys, toys, toys. What I really appreciate about Sounds Like… Without Busting the Bank is the understanding what a listening hopeful is looking for in trying to imitate the sounds that pulled them into the experience which is the realm of the guitar world. Without Busting the Bank dares to take into account while appreciating those on a budget through expertise in knowledge of equipment, playing styles, tones, and overall musicianship individuality of what it would take to sound like a particular inspirational guitarist. I have been on a budget my WHOLE LIFE, so I am thankful there are those in the industry that take the time to include those that can’t shell out for the “custom/signature” series equipment. Just letting us know about amp and pedal settings clues us into what can be achieved at home without having to order online. I have looked to these videos (is that what the kids still call youtube things?) as a way for me to combine ideas and merge artists together in my own flare. Imitation with the capacity to be versatile ironically gives a player fresh new ideas without feeling regurgitation of something that can never be improved upon. There is always hope for new sounds when exploring the inspirations of the past. THAT being said… this one was kicked ass and I’m not even a huge Iron Maiden fan! Total respect but not my flare. I watch all the Sounds Like regardless. I loved the comparison in this episode from Without and By Busting the Bank. Sadly, there is a difference in sounds and bones are bones, to walk the walk it helps to have Bank. It did get me to thinking. Can it sound like if it feels different? Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page started with a Tele but he is known for the Les Paul, yet it would be hard to claim the two guitars did not produce such a massive singular sound. Page even played a Danelector!!!!! Say you like Toni Iommi but the SG doesn’t feel right so you power chord a Les Paul, OR you prefer the vibe of a… STRAT [insert Psycho theme music here]. Can a single coil pound out Iron Man? Obviously coil splitting guitars answer this question easily, but I would like a comparison of similar gear used by an artist to that of a different model or design battling it out to see if you can achieve the same massive singular sound. If nothing else just to experience the differences. JIMI HENDRIX… is there any other guitar in the world other than the beloved Fender Stratocaster? Slash recorded a majority of Appetite for Destruction with a Les Paul relic made by Kris Derrig. If nothing else I would just like to hear the extermination in gear through the differences. Maybe this is too abstract of an idea. I guess I’m talking about personalization without direct copy which is the freedom of every player to do naturally on their own, but I would like Sounds Like to explore what makes a sound clear through one channel yet deafening in another. I have read requests for there to be a Sounds Like the Beatles which brings this all to point. How could you when the Beatles used all kinds of gear morphing their sound from Pop to Psychedelic to British Blues Rock? Yet when you hear a chord it all Sounds Like the Beatles. Is it the style or the reach which pulls us closer to the sound? Consider it a test in Psychology 1:01 accompanied in with Sounds Like Music Theory. Anyway, I really like tuning in and I look forward to more installments. You guys have the chops to make any equipment sound great. I appreciate the knowledge and detail given in dissecting every sound and the patience in understanding the different playing levels we as guitarist are all at. The tech talk inspires me to keep thinking and playing. Thanks for not talking down.

Nirvana by busting the bank is counterintuitive, as Kurt used crappy guitars on a ton of their songs.

Creedence is between a Tele or a Les Paul and probably a Marshall. Skynyrd is SG, LP, or explorer through a Peavey or Marshall. Chuck Berry would be a 335 through a Fender Twin. Doors would be SG through a fender

That's only the last 2 records guys. Alexis rig was a lot more diverse back in the day. on Blooddrunk and Relentless Reckless Forever he used the JCM KK Signature and his signatures were loaded with Seymour Duncan Blackouts. And on every other record Something Wild, Hatebreeder, Follow The Reaper, Hate Crew Deathroll and Are You dead Yet? he used is Lee-Jackson GP 1000 Perfect Connection with a VHT 50:50 EL34 power amp a Rocktron Intellifex, ah Dunlop Rackwah. So there is quite a lot of room to paly with a possible Sounds like.

Adrian Smiths main guitar is his Jackson signature but because it wasn't in stock i think you should have choosen a Gibson les paul goldtop instead of the strat because that's his second guitar of choice... He did use a fender strat also with dimarzio superdistortion in the bridge but i would have gone with a les paul

Mr. Smith used a fender classic floyd rose strat with a dimarzio super distortion for a long time (2007) even he used when he palyed for dickinson, then, switched to Jackson on 2008 when his signature model came. In 2010 he started to use his goldtop les paul for the final frontier tour. So the hss strat the wasn’t a bad desition, he didn’t used his lp since the early maiden years i think
