Sound comparison of Lofi-12 and Lofi-6

LIVEN Lofi-6, a limited edition of 500 units in collaboration with Perfect Circuit: sonicware.jp/p... www.perfectcir...
LIVEN Lofi-12 version 2.1: sonicware.jp/p...

    Why not both! I can understand why it’s a limited run. If it was just a competing product, I think most would opt for the lofi-12 anyway since not so extreme. This gives the opportunity for extra ridiculous lofi to those of us that felt the lofi-12 was not lofi enough. I’m looking forward to pairing the two for 8 tracks of lofi goodness.

    The 6 just sounds heavily filtered with some kinda mid-range distortion circuit. But the top end cannot be recovered. The 12 still gives you the top end with a nice sizzle, and you can get close to the 6 using filters and distortion onboard the 12. The 12 for me all day long

    for every day use the Lofi 12 is better, but the Lofi 6 does sound really nice in certain applications. I don't like it much for drums / percussion but vocals and chords / melodies sound pretty good. like listening to an old record player from the 50s. has a nice warmth to it from the tube amp simulator.

    I wasn't able to keep it because I had other financial responsibilities but the Lofi 12 is so good. Putting velocity on a dedicated potentiometer and being able to sequence it per step to create groove is really really good. Plus the sound is way above it's looks and price.

  • @ThisIsDownstate
    @ThisIsDownstate11 ай бұрын

    imo the problem is, with filtering the noise out of the 6 it just makes it sound muffled and, well, like its got a low pass filter on it. Can't hear much of the crunchiness so it seems a bit pointless, but it does sound pretty nice on the melodic sample. The 12 sounds really nice though.

    @SONICWARE I have a request for the next firmware update for the Lofi 12 / 6. Something I think would bring it to the next level for live performances and make it so it completely blows the Volca Sample out of the water... The ONLY thing (in my opinion) that the Volca Sample has going for it that The Lofi 12 / 6 are missing is its 10 tracks for mixing the drums / samples, besides that it is superior in every way. You have 10 voice polyphony just like the Volca Sample, however unlike the Sample you only have 4 tracks, whereas it has 10. Well.. I think you can get around this and you've basically already done most of the work when you added Drum and Chop modes. Give us the ability to mute the sample slices from those modes on command. Maybe in the Drum / Chop mode we can hit shift and the sequence button above the key that the slice is played from to turn that slices volume to 0 / mute it. Then it's all still on the same track, but it's like having multiple tracks inside the track. Make sense? Like how you have the Bass and Beats set up, just letting us use the sequence buttons above it (but using shift, or function, or shift and function together, or a global setting or something to put it in a mode to mute them on command). Then we can mix the drums live, cut the kick, solo the hi hat, but all inside one track using a single sample. This would let us get the max out of the polyphony and drum beats without adding additional tracks. I think it can be done without a ton of new code. you can probably modify some code from the bass & beats and you've already coded up the most important part, the Drum and Chop modes. I honestly think if you guys can do an update like this the Lofi 12's sales could explode. Just a suggestion 😇

    Thank you for your suggestion. You want to mute each slice, correct?

  • @xgskrillax

    @xgskrillax

    11 ай бұрын

    @@SONICWARE yes the ability to mute individual slices on the tracks in drum or chop mode (solo would be cool too but if can only do one or other mute is most important) would be a game changer. Then if i had it in drum mode I could cut out the kick and snare or whatever without affecting the rest of the slices on that track and then build up to a drop and bring them back in, all without changing the pattern or track. Similar to how the rythym track is set up on the bass&beats but using sample slices. It would add a lot of depth and flexibility to live performances and save us from having to create new patterns or put drums (or whatever) on multiple tracks just to cut out certain sounds. If the firmware was open source and in javascript (lol i'm sure it isnt) I would be willing to try and code it, but it's probably in C++ and I'd probably make a mess. But I'm thinking you all could modify some of the code from the rythym track on the Bass&Beats to implement this, making it a much easier than writting it from scratch. Tldr: yes 😅

    i am curious to know how many units of the bassnbeats sold? these machines are mass produced but sonicware are acting like a boutique company. i may be wrong but putting a 500 limit on orders either implies that sonicware did not have very high hopes for this device, witch in my opinion is way more appealing then the bassnbeats, or it is just a quick cash grab to make people buy the same machine they bought 4 months ago, and guarantee they get all the orders right now. why not do a preorder to gauge how many initial units people would want like in the past? or do a limited edition version like with bassnbeats, that only changes color of keys. why not put out two versions of lofi6, the exclusive light blue one for perfect circuit and a regular one? are you only selling 500 units of each liven? surely 500 is not enough for everyone who would want one to get one? so its more beneficial to you to force everyone who is interested to spend the money now, than it is to get this machine that you and your team worked so hard to produce in as many hands as possible? Is the only point in making these to make money? wouldn't you rather sell 5000?

I'm converting samples to 16bit 6000hz in audio editor. This definitely takes off the high end and doesn't really add any artifacts, I thought these 'lofi' digital samplers were all about artifacts? Hmmm. Something's wrong here. If you have a sampling rate of 6khz, embrace it! Don't put tape filtering and saturation. 6k noise is a wonderful thing so why hide it? And if you wanted to recreate the sound of tapes, tapes are not at 6k so it doesn't sound like old tape either.

    Just like back in the day - Emu, Akai, Ensoniq, Roland, Casio etc... people usually own multiple samplers... Maybe you would tend to use 1 of these "Lofi" boxes for drums, and the other one for harmonic material... and if you're jamming, you want to hear both at the same time... and if possible, you'd want to have separate controls for each. And then, these samplers cost less than the old ones did, without even considering inflation. I could actually see an additional "Lofi" sampler, with a different character than either of these. I don't like the idea of "limited edition". I would prefer if Sonicware said something like "initial run of 500", and then were open to more if they sell out pretty quickly. But maybe PC commissioned it exactly this way, and exclusivity was part of the deal? I wouldn't be mad at Sonicware, tho. I just hope people who want one for making music, can get one for a reasonable price. I think 500 should be enough, but if they catch on, you never know...
