Soul Made: O’Rourke Coachtrimmers

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Robert “Rorky” O’Rourke isn’t particularly interested in cars’ engines or their cornering characteristics. Like anyone who spends working hours amongst classic Ferraris and the like, Rorky appreciates the superlative elements of the cars that come to O’Rourke Coachtrimmers, but his company is unwaveringly focused on one element. This is not a one-stop shop for full-car restorations, though if you’re looking for an interior done to a degree of perfection that can only come from an obsessive dedication to craftsmanship, this is the place to get it.
“I like the look of these cars,” Rorky says with a conciliatory tone, covering his bases, but he believes that real beauty isn’t skin deep. “I’m a bit backwards that way. I just like the interiors-I’m really passionate about that and nothing else,” he admits, continuing, “When I go anywhere and see an old race car, the first thing I look at is the seats.”
The combination of Rorky and his team’s accumulated hands-on knowledge and the narrow scope of their services has made O’Rourke Coachtrimmers the kind of company that people seek out when they’re only seeking the highest quality. After trimming the interiors of nearly countless Ferraris, Rorky can certainly be considered a master of the trade by now, but one of the more common denominators among people like that is a need for challenge. O’Rourke Coachtrimmers doesn’t shy away from the obscure, and while the team has made this specialized skill set into something more like instinct at this point, each new job is taken as an opportunity to keep learning.

Brilliant. Great to see one or two younger men in the workshop, hopefully they have the same commitment you have, and will continue to enhance todays classic cars.

I accompanied a friend there who was having a Lusso re-trimmed a few years back. It was a joy to see the craftsmanship of true artisans and he was an incredibly funny sharp witted person too giving me music recommendations. They looked like they had laughs all day long.

I've seen a lot of nice Ferrari's, Aston's and Porsche's with horrible black interiors. I always thought to myself "If I had the money, I'd get it retrimed in tan, or red, or blue leather depending on the exterior color. I would love to do what he's doing. This sort of hand craftsmanship is so very underrated. Thank you.

why? seems like it would be truly interesting to re-trim one, just like a nice old aston zagato. I bet it is not easy to make that happen with the huge display and no gauges. show the tesla guys how it is done. I bet they would take pointers.
