SOTA - Setting up SOTA a Mountain Radio Station with my Elecraft KX2 - filmed on a mountain.

SOTA activation of An Socach, however most of the film dedicated to the one person setting up and breaking down of an HF summit station.
First test of the KX2 and how it performs for SOTA (summits on the air)

    All that rig needs now is a CW paddle, they are a great CW rig. I like the external speaker on the KX2 better than the KX3 which tends to overload if volume control is not checked. Great set up thanks for the video. vk5cz ..

    I've only just realised, the 110 is a KAC reg, was it a Solihull special vehicles build? I miss my old demo county 110, she was a good girl! Thks for the video, very enjoyable, with some more beautiful Scottish scenery!

    It was a SV build. The grill badge is for a 110. Taken off the production line and then chassis lengthened to 127. Ex Herts. Constabulary Police remote command unit. Thanks for your comments. 😃 Fraser

    What type of pole is that again and source? Enjoyed the video!

  • @theradiorover

    @theradiorover

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Bob, That pole is a 7 m Spiderbeams pole. It is 60cm (2') long packed and I think it weighs around 700g (1.5lb). It is bombproof and I've had it up in some rough conditions without issue. I sleeved the base section with some heat shrink wrap and this protects it when I jam it in rocks to save on guying. Glad you enjoyed the video! 73, Fraser MM0EFI

  • @theradiorover

    There are always sheep somewhere. I seem to remember there were plenty of sheep along the track that I cycled up. Actually, I remember coming across them on the way back. Rather than move off to the side, they kept running along the track in fron of me for a good half mile. Sheep aren't to smart! 73, Fraser MM0EFI

    Hi there..Great video..Could you answer a question for me please…If I hear a SOTA (or POTA) station calling CQ, is that station just looking for replies from other SOTA stations? Thanks in advance..73..John.. G4EIJ

  • @theradiorover

    Hi John, Not at all. All SOTA operators appreciate contacts and reports from anyone and anywhere, even a couple of miles away. You may just get a signal report and exchange of details, but the signal report is always a genuine one. I once worked a massive pile up on 40m and a random chap stumbled across me on the frequency. We had a QSO and he asked what I was up to. Thought it must be a special event or something! I'm glad you enjoyed the film! 73, Fraser MM0EFI
