Can you cut at, say, 3 feet high and bale that for feed and get another cut off of the field later in the season?

Shelly, sorry for the delayed response but what I have observed is that the second cutting grows very quick. The amount of biomass generated in the second cutting is slightly higher than the first

From what I have read about it. U cut it when it gets to a certain height before it seeds and it re grows with a stronger root system to cut deep threw the ground

Hi Joe, I have tried both. If I seed in early fall then I let the winter take care of the kill. If seeded in summer, I flail now and then till it under

do you use a regular mower or a flail mower each time you mow it?

Hi Patrick, a flail mower is what I have used. Given the amount of biomass, a flail mower would be required

Does it need to be seeded at 45lbs/acre if you want to keep it mowed down for getting organic matter into the soil ,as I'm told it regrows a big root system each time you mow it?
