Sopor Aeternus - Consider This: the true meaning of love

Музыка

Can I trust you, mortal boy?
You say, you love me - oh, sure you do - ,
but what exactly does this affirmation mean?
I do not have the slightest notion,
no idea of what you understand by "love"
and other terms as worn-out
such as this old song and dance,
you call romance.
Quite different flowers grow indeed
in my small semantic garden ... -
so, let us see, if your good vow
is more than just some chemical imbalance.
Is it worth the air you breathe,
or will it be just another waste of time with you?
What I call "Love, precious and true",
would you refer to this as sin,
or crime and all that silly crap?
Now, let me put you to the test:
How often have I heard these words:
"I love you so much, dearest dear,
that I would die for you, right now, right here!"
Sure, doing this they're sitting pretty,
but I say: piss on it,
because this way is far too easy !!!
But: do you also have the strength
to be there for me till the end?
Would you have courage, live for me,
respect my wishes, my decree?
Would you defend me against the world,
fight the doctors playing God,
slap your priests, if they came near,
or anyone who interferes ?!?
Is the version of your Love as true,
that you would use all means within your power
just to meet the urgent plea,
that solemn, final wish for dying
of a helpless her or him,
who lies in pain, who's suffering,
now only begging for the end ... --
is your "Love" that of a true friend?
If I lay crying in my bed,
waiting, no longing for the end,
if I decide my time has come,
would you then be that trustful one
to guard this chamber, break this shell,
and free me from this living hell
by making sure my death is swift.
Would you grant me that sacred gift ?!?
Now that you've heard it, let me know:
Are you then willing to let go ?!?
Say: would you do all this for me,
would you respect my wishes, my dignity?
Because that's what LOVE means to me !!!

12 year ago. It seems so unreal. I've listened to and loved this song, along with everything other for so long but it didn't seem that long ago. Well, I will continue to listen and love this song 12 more years from now. Songs like this will be what I share with anyone I might fancy, if that's possible and I am not asexual. I don't think I am, I just know exactly what kind of person is compatible with me and it's not easy to come by.

Such power..Such utter power! It goes into same sex relationships and trans relationships too where she says defy the doctors playing god and slap your priests if they come near. So much beauty in this. This meaning is what love is to me too! Will the other be prepared to be by my side till I die? Or are they just a waste of time? Anna-Varney don't stop making music please!

Nope... it talks about a love that its so pure and true that respects even a dying wish... The Doctor and the Priest represent agents of hope that only make the suffering longer... but.. hey, anyway everyone interprets things in different ways..

I wrote that right after thinking that I'd rather see (...feel, smell...) someone literally shit on me instead of just indifferently throwing some crappy definition of "love" at me, for example. I don't think there can be a "correct" view of the situation, and I certainly see things differently than those simply identifying with Anna-Varney - that was my point, exactly.

exchange of power, which is another way of saying your "own business" are no longer just yours, as any one of them can be used to (at least try to) attain power; on the other hand, I've also been playing with the idea that on Collision Anna-Varney might have also had this "mortal boy" on her mind (on which she herself would probably disagree, unless this or all the "boys" she's singing about aren't actually himself; then again, she is expressing her relationship towards himself in a way that is

  • @maillevin

She is singing about men stupidity, shallow view at love and friendship, about everyone rights to decide about themselves (freedom), truly and strong emotional kinship and that there is none like this for her so she is alone and she is still waiting for someone like this (and not only she :/)

appealing to the emotions of others, as if the relationship was between two distinct people, plus a relationship with someone else is always at least as much a relationship with oneself and vice versa, so actually all this is unimportant). All I did was that I ironically joked a bit about her self-obsession as a reply to someone commenting on his/her obsession with Anna-Varney, and said I didn't love her. If that's how she understands love, I don't, but it seems I'm trying to have some kind of

imaginary relationship with her right now. Anyhow, I still find lots of interesting elements in this particular song, too; I just read about the effects of this "biochemical discourse", compared to rendering behavior in narrative form, which is not as easy, but also doesn't diminish empathy so effectively. Oh my, it popped on my mind that in referring to something so culturally constructed as "narratives" I was trying to explain even Anna-Varney's gender issues as some sort of misconception,

Neither of the songs she writes are to her fans, all of her work is made for her. You should read some Anna-Varney interviews on the internet xD. -"I dont expect anyone to truly understand my music... its not about that. Sopor~ is for and about myself. When you chose to hear it, you shouldnt especulate about what Anna-Varney wanted to say when he/she wrutes this or that song, instead, you should ask yourself what the music tells you and what do you feel when you listen to it."-

For sure she is disappointed, I wrote that there is none becouse firstly people are very shallow and secondly she never (like the others famous people) knows that they want her or her fame. I still think that it is more personal, and she is not singing about fans etc. but about people who she meet personally.

It hasn't offended me, but I prefer Collision and Shave If You Love Me (and Some Men Are Like Chocolate, etc). On this one I identify more with this "mortal boy", and I must admit that in this context her other songs, the ones on which she's not overtly communicating or even interacting with others seem... different. I guess they shouldn't, since it's quite rude to judge people by what they are just because other people might not find it pleasing, whereas I see relationships as power-struggle/

Ponder people into the words of this song. Can't you see that the devil lures you and seduces you with its beautiful words. And calls to live for him and die for him. Do not sell your souls to the devil! Truly, we are from the Creator and we will return to him in the Gardens of Eden.

(Reply to 7Row7enn7.) I don't know about Anna-Varney - and obviously she's not sure, either -, but if my unflattering view of people in general is not entirely wrong, this is just the song some teenager, having in some puny fear of being left alone inconsiderately dragged someone prone to this by the earflap and fooled that someone into feeling something unworthy towards someone who doesn't deserve it, would play to the ones that can be discarded in order to get rid of them.
