I remember seeing Sophie Tucker on Sunday Night at the London Palladium.

Had heard the name but not the voice. I love her. She knew how to sell a song.

She wasn't a great singer but she was intelligent enough to know what she could do and what she couldn't do. She compensated for her voice by her persona, wardrobe, comedy, and pure star power. In the middle of her career to the end, she spoke through her songs...but nobody cared.

My own mother resembled Sophie Tucker and you know what? I do miss her terribly.

Sophie is a dazzling star even now (2022) after all these years. Elaine (uk).

I think I saw one of Sophie Tucker's last appearances. She must have been in her 80s. She appeared on the Mike Douglas Show with George Jessel and Ted Lewis so years ago they probably performed together. Maybe someone can fins the video and put it on You Tube. I also heard one of her records on a telephone juke box in the 1970s.

I thought Sophie was an earthy and handsome woman. She was the greatest. I remember her on Ed Sullivan with Maurice Chevalier singing each others songs together. She was a treasure.

Im from CT and I didnt know she was a Hartford resident.
