Quite correct. Though the sad lyrics were incredibly written and brings context of emotion, the actual music/melody is simple and “happy”. I suppose that contradiction in itself makes it genius.

Wow I loved Madonna’s version too which became a top 10 hit but I also love the tone of Sophie’s voice

When a song is done perfectly the first time, just leave it alone.

Such a beautiful song and obviously a beautiful woman. The two together sadly don’t work here. She’s so not suited for this kind of song. Strongly recommend you listen to a proper singer singing this: Barbara Dickson

She's brutal

Much better phrasing/timing here compared to Samantha Barks, although I prefer Samantha's voice.

Nice enough but - as with Madonna etc etc - this pales in comparison to the superlative original performance by Barbara Dickson.

I like Madonna's version, sophie ellis bextor is a good singer but this song sounds better with an opera voice or something like that

Barbra Streisand doesn't likethe music from " Evita" and has never sung any of the songs ...

She does well, but when compared to Samantha Barks' version in the programme celebrating Andrew Lloyd Webber's 40 years in musicals, it seems flat.

@@Gayalert69 I was simply comparing versions in similar programmes. I don't compare those in a one-off programme with those who have taken part in the actual production. As for Samantha who, when she sang the version I referred to, ALW said "That's one of my most difficult songs as it goes right across the break of a girls voice and she just does it effortlessly".

It's so painful hearing her voice believing at any moment it will crack. Weakest version I've heard so far. Raise the bar, people!

Barbara Dickson was great , not this rubbish ,

No emotion.

Sophie’s voice was beautiful. The back up vocals…. not so much (especially the one showboating trying to do choreography at the end🙄)

Voice too weak & doesn't suit her at all. Sensed she could perform suitably by having clear diction alone.
