Great video bro- well informative. Thank you very much. I have one of these lights and really like it. You also taught me a few things about the light I didn’t know. 💪💪💪💪 going to search for the app now on my iPhone iOS 🎥

It's such a great size even with the case, super useful. Threw it up under the hood of a stove on a shoot this week, fit perfectly with the magnets and no other light would have done the job as well.

I remember the last one you checked of that type, it was pretty expensive yet looked somewhat cheap, this one on the other hand, the price is fine compared to how well built it looks. I just wonder how bright can it really get and it looks somewhat small, but overall I'd consider this one (I actually have an idea where to put and use it) I'd be happy if you could add some B-roll of this light lighting some objects or people, just to see it in action, though in the end of the video it did lit your face a little which added a really nice effect.

One of the things I really appreciate about this channel is that you tend to review budget friendly, less mainstream, gear like this, and do such a thorough job for the most part. The only time the information is typically lacking is if there is only an android app for controlling something. This got me thinking perhaps picking up a basic android phone as a channel investment might be useful so not only can you review the android only apps, but you could compare and contrast the differences between iphone and android versions. One doesn't need a registered phone like device, but just something basic to use only as as a remote control. Just a thought.

Thanks so much for the comment! I do agree and have thought about picking up an android for that exact reason but then I always think, if I get one, I should get a new(ish) one because that will be most appropriate for new smartphone gimbals etc, and has less risk of newer apps being incompatible. Also, just have NO idea which one to get hahaha. Definitely something to re-consider though. Here is a link for the Android app in any case, not sure how much you can judge from just downloading it without the light though: bit.ly/LightPieceAndorid Cheers!

hi scott, you have some of the best reviews that I've ever seen. incredibly informative and you are genuine. I have watched several videos about things I'm not even planning on getting because of how thorough you are. thank you for the time that you put into these. I have a question, I'm currently building a kit from the ground up, I need professional quality, cinema looks, and easy for a single shooter. I'm curious about your thoughts on the Black Magic 6k vs Z-Cam vs A7s3. I know those are all quite different, but there are so many choices out there nowadays the internet has been sending my thoughts in all directions. Thanks in advance, and keep up the incredible work you're doing with these videos.

Hey, thanks so much! I really really appreciate that :) I hope the content continues to be helpful. As for the cameras, it's a hard choice for sure. Fairly complex. I think one major factor is if you want to use autofocus or not. If you do, the A7SIII wins immediately. Also, do you want a small compact camera or something that needs to be rigged up, which gets heavier and larger (not always a bad thing). The Z Cam is a fantastic camera but can get large as you add a monitor, cable, batteries for both camera and monitor, follow focus (no AF) etc. But the quality is great and internal ND on the new bodies will be amazing. The BMPCC6K is great too, but if I went with BlackMagic I think the 4K is actually a much better deal. You can use an adapter or smaller MFT lenses, but for the price the camera puts out amazing quality images. From what I've heard it can also benefit quite a lot from being rigged up, and is not quite as compact even by itself as the A7SIII. The A7SIII also has internal stabilization, a full frame sensor and does not really need to be rigged up (solid body so no flex in the mount, has a monitor and great VF etc. audio accessories like the XLR adapter which work with the A7SIII's hot shoe are also great for in camera audio. Battery life is better than the BMPCC4k and it's internal/adds no size like the Z Cam's battery will. the Sony will be the easiest on a gimbal too. The biggest downside is no internal ND. If you can't tell, I bought the A7SIII haha... but depending on what lenses you have/want to buy, what features are important (internal ND vs AF for example) ...they can all give you great results. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more specific questions :)

Awesome review! Question about the special effects options- can I program the device to automatically shift to a specific effect of my choosing when powering it on (or via saved preset), or do I have to shift through each setting manually until I get to the one I want? I'd like to use this for a live performance and would want the light to go into an effect preset when manually powered on.

Thanks! A lot of lights will stay on the effect you left them on so that when you turn them on again they'll be ready to go, but unfortunately this seems to always power on in CCT mode, even if you turned it off set on some effect preset.

Good review. Short question: I am thinking of buying a tubelight. The Soonwell and the Godox LC150 caught my eye. For what purposes would you recommend each one? I am looking for some accent lights for my home studio or an occasional video. Greetings from Yokohama.

Greetings from Kochi! Tube lights are like the new pocket LED haha.. there's too many choices now. The Soonwell is definitely something I've been happy with though- a good size/output balance and even the carry case is crazy small, which I like. I haven't used the Godox yet, but from others I've tested some of the biggest differences lately come down to how easy they are to use (the screen on the Soonwell is very small but it's usually not a problem) and their physical size, especially if you need them to fit in a certain spot. Magnets are also very useful- not sure if the Godox has that actually, but Soonwell does. And of course price. Hope that helps!

It should work with an app but at the moment that app is only released for Android (I'm an iPhone user). I believe the iPhone app should be out soon though. It should work about 2 hours on max power

Thanks very much! I likely did but it's been quite a while since this review and can't remember what I got. I didn't mention anything specifically though so it was probably around what the manufacturer claims or what it should last calculating by power draw and battery capacity.

Nice product and review. The screen looks a bit too small and dim though. I’d pick this up but having an iOS app is important to me. It would be great to know if Soonwell will release an iPhone app. If not, that’s a dealbreaker and I have to pass. There’s a lot of similar options out there now and things like an app make a big difference in the purchase decision. A great feature of this light however is that it’s waterproof.

I use to have this issue, but from the opposite position as I'm primarily android; however, I inherited a slightly older iphone from a family member when they upgraded. So now I keep that only as a gear tool/remote, and it really let's me see which has the better app for a given purpose. Now I can't imagine not having both as I really like some things on one over the other.

Thanks! And as far as I know I've been told that they ARE developing an iPhone app. Not sure when, or how much of a guarantee that is, but they at the moment are intending to make one.
