The Soo Line 2719 is an H-23 class 4-6-2 Pacific type locomotive. It was built by ALCO in 1923 and used by the Soo Line in passenger service until its retirement in 1959. In 1960 the Soo Line donated the 2719 to the city of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where it was proudly placed on display in Carson Park. Between 1996 and 1998 the 2719 was removed from the park, beautifully restored, and brought back to fully operational condition by the Locomotive & Tower Preservation Fund. Sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of this steamer once again doing what is was made to do, pulling passenger trains in the classiest of style.
Also enjoy a look at the Soo Line 1003 an L-1 class 2-8-2 Mikado and the Northern Pacific 328 an S-10 class 4-6-0 Ten Wheeler.

The Soo Line to me and many of my railroad friends just have a special spot for the Soo .. it has a lot to do with it being a Minnesota railroad and like us Minnesotans it was a humble non flashy railroad that always ran in the black while the southern railroads would file for bankruptcy every few years.. the Soo , MN&S , Missabe , Northern Pacific, Great Northern.. all great roads all started in Minnesota. And the Louie and Omaha too.

Growing up in northern Minnesota on the Iron Range and watching a Missabe Yellowstone 2-8-8-4 rumbling and hissing pulling heavy ore trains outside my door was special for me just like the Soo for you. I agree, Minnesota has a rich RR history. Thank you for watching.

Me and my friend @TrainGuru are working on a documentary about 2719’s history to celebrate the locomotive’s 100th birthday two months from now. Would it be alright if we borrowed your footage of 2719 getting restored and her first runs here? I just mean the shortened vids you have uploaded here on KZread.

The 2719 is currently at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, MN and is awaiting it's chance to run again in the future once funding is secured to rebuild the boiler and a new FRA 15 year lease on life is granted.

I believe they are also waiting on their other steam engine’s 15 year boiler license to run out, which will happen in about 2031.
