So helpful thanks! Would love to see how you processed the audio, I use davinci resolve and have always struggled making audio sound better in post production

I just use premiere pro use essential sound and use the presets or sometimes ill just mess with a dynamic compressor and bump that stuff up til the red almost nearly distorting the audio. I know it's wrong but I like to live on the edge!

Thank's for posting, as it's nice to also get an idea of the proportions of the K3m, when fitted on the smaller Sony bodies, as well as how good it sounds. I was wondering, have you tried to record 4 channel audio on the A7c yet ? As I can't find anything confirming whether it can do this or not. Sony's website lists full compatibility with the A7c, but doesn't elaborate any further!

One question I have for you Robbie is whether you noticed any difference in the audio once you went through the hot shoe like this. I have pre-amps that output through a cable into camera's mic-input and even with some really good microphones, I still notice some white static. And I've isolated the source of that static to the pre-amps in the camera. So, my one solution is to knock the camera pre-amp setting down to 1 (yes 1!) and boost the output from the external pre-amp. That seems to work best. But I was wondering if you noticed the same thing and if, when you switched to the K3M's hot shoe setup, you saw an improvement of any sort. Also, one thing i wish the xlr-k3m had (that I don't hear the reviewers talking about much) is some visual levels. I like the knobs to adjust the gain, but then I want to see how that impacts what's going out to the camera. For example, your voice was louder than your guest's. If you knew what was going out to your camera (any camera), you could adjust your gains to get the same levels so you don't have to fix in post.

oh man yeah im pretty bad with all that tiny stuff... and I'm such a bad reviewer in that sense. To me.. if i hear... it works! I used to come from a post production studio for broadcast TV and we would quality control every little thing so when I started youtube channel... I threw all that out the door! So if there is static, I probably don't notice it enough for it to bother my ears. I'm also pretty bad about levelsince I just hit record and say "f" it. Sorry I couldn't be of any use or help!!! But I appreciate the question!

@@reviewsbyrobbie I am not sure what you mean by tiny stuff. I take it to mean that audio quality is a trivial issue to you. In that case, I understand. Thanks for your response.

@@reviewsbyrobbie OK, thanks. Here's my overall take on the XLR-K3M: If Sony compatible cameras (ones that have the right hotshoe interface) are all you use, then that's about the only time I'd go with this. But I have other cameras that I like to "front-end" with high quality audio. And for those, there's no compatibility. For example, if I want to put a high quality audio front end on my GoPro and I'm using a mic that needs phantom power, where is this device going to get its power from? 😢 For this kind of money, I think you're better off with one of the 32-bit float recorders (Zoom or Tascam) that can support the Sony just as easily as it can your other cameras. Again, if Sony is the only camera you use, then it might work. I like not having wires for power and audio. But then there are two other things I don't like. (1) you cannot visualize your mixed audio levels on the device (2) the mount for the boom mic is unsightly when unused (should be removable) and offers no suspension for sound isolation, and (3) there is no line-out or headphone jack. All in all, for the money, unless you desperately want the "no cables" advantage of the multi-shoe interface, this is a non starter to me. And, I love the no-cable option. But not at this price and with these features relative to other front ends.

Ciao Robbie, I've got the Sony A7C and recently added the K3M to my setup. I'm running into some issues. When I connect two mics and load the clip into DaVinci, it's just one audio track. I expected two mono tracks. Is there a setting I'm missing? Also, I got the K3M mainly to use a mic on the camera and to connect the DJI Mic receiver. But when I use the input 3 port and set the K3M to IN3, it's only picking up that input. There doesn't seem to be an option for both input 1 and 3. You're the only one I've seen with a K3M on an A7C, so any insights would be super helpful!
