Getting this unit for Christmas this year, will be installing in my 2006 F150. I used to have a 2003 F250 XLT, very similar to yours! Wish I could smash my F150 into a wall and have my old truck back, sure miss it. Anyway, thanks for the great video. Realizing installation is a little different for mine, your video was a great help noentheless! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

U need back up sensors definitely will go with the entire set up u got going on

i have this in my 01 excursion and my 05 f250 i love it, had to break my radio out of my excursion cause the pins all broke, hella annoying.

Just curious if you ended up having to remove the two screws located at the top of the opening where you removed the material or were you able to fit this unit in without having to do so? Also, have you had any fitment issues with regard to the head unit moving around any since this video was published? Great video, great install, thanks for sharing.

Dude, you skipped showing how you wired the Rev - in wire from the sony display unit! Can you do a video showing that too?

Great video. Thanks. I was curious about a couple of things. How do you like the backup camera? Is it still doing well? I noticed that it does not have top reviews on Amazon. The other thing is that you said that there is no way to get the radio out once installed. There has to be some way, some tool to use to pull the radio out if you need to add more equipment or change something out. Thanks again.

Thanks for the comments! The backup camera is working great, no issues as of yet. Yes, you can get the radio out but you either have to take the whole center dash section off or somehow break the mount kit that holds the radio in. Basically you have to get behind it to get to it, to release it. There is not a tool like on the OEM radio, at least that I know of.

Thanks for the video. Can you tell me if you looked into the Sony XAV-AX5000? I am confused between that and this. I find the AX-100 a little bit cheaper so I am more inclined towards this.

I did. The AX5000 is a bit newer and has satellite radio capability. Functionally it is the same interface. Also to note, the AX5000 does not have a physical volume control knob where as the AX100 does. I didn't need satellite radio and I wanted the volume control knob so go the AX100.

How much is the price

I have the same year truck, 6 c/d factory radio, and dremel tool. And I am looking at the exact same radio. Do you find that the mounting kit you used interferes with the radio knob since it sets the radio into the dash deeper? I am looking at a different dash kit that mounts it more flush so the head unit isn't depressed into the dash. Also, was the sound quality a big improvement over the stock unit? I just put one in my daughters RAV4 and it was an enormous difference, but the RAV4 has better OEM speakers. The stock radio on my F350 just sounds horrible.

Good choice on the XAV-AX100! No the volume knob is still very accessible, I just use one finger to rotate it, simple. The sound quality did improve a little but, but not drastic. Eventually I may upgrade the OEM speakers too.

Where do you tie in the parking brake wire?

Nice vid. Is there a way to adjust the backup camera guide lines, from the head unit? Or, is it shimming/adjusting the camera itself? The lines seemed to go off in space.

Cannot adjust the lines with this camera, except for the manual adjustment of the camera itself. There may be newer model head units that have that capability.

What was the dash kit did you use? I have that same head unit, and need to know.

The harness kit you link to isn’t the same as the one you used in the video. It plugs into the Ford harness but has open ends on all the wires and requires you to connect the wires yourself :-( Maybe you could link to the crutchfield one you used?

Hey man my f350 has the same unit in it but didn't come with removal tools. Do these require removal tools to remove the unit? I need to fix my odometer gear. :/ my unit looks identical to yours.

The same OEM head unit? You need to buy the removal tools separately from the new deck. Like this, if it is a "double din" like mine was: amzn.to/3hOfaFx

you said it can be wired so the Camara stays on. How/is their a way to record what happens behind you? ie: nitty age driver. than you

You would need a "dash cam" to record video, not sure if you could use one to double as the backup camera though. There are plenty of front/rear dash cam kits out there.

Subscribed for racing stuff but this is really tempting for my truck. Sync sucks.

Sync sucks indeed! This was a pretty big convenience upgrade for this truck! Got another Sony XAV-AX100 ready to go in my BRZ too 😁
