Fantastic review. The most compelling reason for a 4k UHD Blu-ray player for me is that none of the major streaming devices and services consistently work with 5.1 surround sound across devices. For movies, this is absolutely unacceptable. So after a week of frustration, I decided to abandon streaming for movies and just get a 4k UHD Blu-ray player and physical disc collection. If you are a real movie lover then it's a no brainer to get a player and enjoy ungimped video and audio plus there is no worrying about film censorship i.e what they did to the french connection

I think it's a really good quality item. I happen to own one, and I'm so glad I purchased this player. I'd rather use this as a dedicated player than say a ps5 for playing uhd blu rays

Very thorough. Appreciate the review and I'll probably be getting one soon. I have an xbox one x that I had been using to watch 4k movies (have a lot of them). However, now that the system is older, newer 4k physical media is not playing. Long story short after doing some research it seems it is something about the copyright protection requirements not being updated in the blu ray app from Microsoft.

Great video I sold my Xbox one s because it wouldn't play many of my 4k movies 😡🤦🏻 and I went for this same 4k player and man I been loving it 👌🏼👌🏼

B@@itsme6050 A Bluray will upscale beautifully. A DVD might look a little better but not as good as the Bluray.

I enjoy mine, I bought it for the price and having all the features that I need. Physical media blows streaming away IMO.

I bought a very similar multi region version UBP-X500B.CEK MR. Purchased a few months before I bought the 4k LG TV. To replace my PS3 blu ray player. I this unit does not streamt but it does seem to play any disc including vcd & cdv & dvd+RW. Very pleased as PS3 world not play other region BD or DVD, so I had a multi region Samsung dvd with HDMI out for that

Thanks for the enlightening video. Does this player(Sony UBP-X700) recognize DTS and Dolby audio through MKV and MP4 files played through external HD?

I've just already ordered one today (multiregion modded which is even better) The only problem with this player from what I've seen and read is the picture freezing in some 4K discs after a while. But there is a trick to avoid that here on YT. I can't tell the title of the video but you can find it and most commenters seem very happy about that. Although I must say is unnaceptable for a company like Sony not included a darn display in the front. That's ridiculous because they are cheap... unless no display means faster loading, which I seriously doubt. Thanks for the review.

Just purchased this model based on this great review. I still believe in physical media and need my dvd blu-ray collection to stay relevant.. still running on a 2010 Samsung tv that is 1080p but needed to upgrade a dying samsung blu-ray. Future proofing for the day the tv eventually gives out. Thanks for the great review.

question for you if you know? i recently bought a new 4k tv, but the upscaling is not good at all..when i stream a 1080p movie it looks kind of blury and washed out..if a stream a 1080p movie through this blu ray player into the tv will i notice a huge difference in the picture quality? thanks

I got this at a very good 150 euro, gotta say im pretty impressed. The quality jump in both sound and picture compared to both Series X and Ps5 is considerable, which i did not expect considering how cheap this is. I watched the Shining 4k disc hooked to a 77" Lg C1 and it looked glorious, whereas on both consoles i could see more noise in the picture with both noise reduction or on off, the processing on this thing is really really good.

I prefer physical discs to streaming. I believe it gives a better picture and sound. I have a PS5,but it doesn't have all these features.

So I just got this player per your video here, thanks. First ever player for me and I'm waiting on blu ray disc to arrive in two days. In meantime I've been reading the manual and it states that via the player's remote I can adjust tv picture settings, i.e. color, tint, etc. When playing a disc is the player's remote in control of all tv settings? Or, if a blu ray disc is playing can I still use my tv remote to fine tune the picture or will I be forced to use the player's remote? I"m concerned about this because I have worked hard over past year to fine tune my TCL 4k Roku tv and I know its settings well. But I worry I'll have to go through long process of having to adjust best picture settings with another remote, a different language somewhat between picture settings via tv remote and player remote. Any tips? TIA>

I also have this device. Would you recommend 'upscaling' for dvd and bluray? My off. Also, the Netflix application is not 'dolby vision' supported and 'dolby atmos' does not sound in content.

Hi, thanks for the review. You haven’t mentioned if it plays .mts/.ts files. Also does it have frame stepping/slow-mo and zoom? A few years ago I noticed the “angle” feature was still on their players but was now buried in a dumb menu instead of on the remote itself which was really dumb! Please could you let me know? how would this Sony x700 compare to the Panasonic UB 150 4K blueray player ? I just want good 4K picture and good sound ? ( do not need any streaming links)

Does anyone know if I put a standard DVD in a blu-ray player if the picture will look worse than when its played in my DVD player? That's my biggest concern when I need to replace my DVD player.

Another review on this unit said that streaming services from it are only hi-def, not 4K. Is that true?

Discs look better; streaming compresses the crap out of everything.

I have the BDP-S3700 I wish the buttons were bigger on the remote because sometimes I press the pause button finding it to be stop, and the netflix button doesn't function on mine. It also doesn't have amazon which got terminated wish it had it.. I do like the upscaling so if someone didn't have a 4K television would it still upscale to full screen or near 4K . Nice video I wish I could be as relaxed as you on video thank you for your review.

Hi Vickie. Thanks for the kind words. Yes I do agree that the buttons on this remote are a little small and I find myself sometimes pressing the wrong buttons. The upscaling feature to me is a bit gimmicky. I would only recommend it if you have some old DVD's and you want to clear up the picture a bit. Even so , this feature only works so so in my opinion. Where this player shines is picture quality especially on Blu ray and UHD movies.

hey love your videos man. Just got my sony ubp x700 in the mail last week and tested out for a couple of days. One thing I noticed is that the picture on this blu-ray player looks darker when compared to my ps4 pro when playing standard blu-rays. Ive set the video settings to auto on the blu-ray player and tried tweaking the custom settings to match with the brightness of the ps4 pro. However, Im afraid i would'nt have the most accurate picture or even make the picture worse as Im not a professional in adjusting the contrast/brightness. fyi ive hooked up both of this devices to the same amp (through hdmi hdcp 2.2) that is connected to the tv. I would really appreciate if you could help me with this problem.

Hi Farees. Thanks for the comment. As for your issue, it’s difficult for me to help without me being there. You have 3 components that can be adjusted. Bluray player , tv and receiver. Are your tv settings the same when you switch inputs from ps4 to bluray? Check that. Otherwise when bluray is playing hit the options button on the remote and go to video settings. Toggle through those to find a brighter setting. Hope this helps.

@@sidsreviews1110 Yeah i made sure all the settings are the same. Ive tried playing around with the video settings on blu-ray player but it just cant reach the brightness of the ps4 pro. At some point it does reach the same overall brightness as the ps4 pro but it cancelled out some details or highlights that is present on the ps4 pro. Especially in scenes that has stars in the night sky in Star Wars the force awakens standard Blu-ray.

Maybe frequently clean the vents on the consoles. My PS5 has never been loud, it's dead silent except on startup but that's about it.

That is not necessary as it plays in 4k automatically.

Just purchased a Sony 4K TV and thinking about buying this player. Would there actually be an improvement in up scaling from DVD 📀 on this player versus the upscaling on my Sony Blu-ray player? How much of an upscale can I except with my Blu-ray Discs?

To be honest, this play doesn't do a great job in upscaling. Where it shines is playback of bluray and UHD discs. It also streams your HD movie files very well from your computer.

I've recently upgraded my older Bravia to a nice new LED 4K bravia. Then upgraded to a Sony receiver as well. Now I'm looking to upgrade my older Sony bluray player to this one. I tried a 4K UHD dvd and my 4K Bravia only gives 1080. I contacted Sony and spent a good hour + with them trying every possible option and still nothing. So they're making arrangements to have me send it back and they'll replace it. Hopefully with one they tested to make sure and send me the new one.

Its a nice little player for sure although they have freezing issues ar times during playback and unlike my Oppo 203 its not region unlocked. A grear little player for the price though a little dissapointed that its locked to Region 2/B esoecually with all the new and exclusive blu rays content thats now widely available from overseas

It works out of the box. You can also update via USB so if a friend has internet you can update that way

I Have On One word for this player ( Amazing ) at this time there is one thing that it can't play , is Blu Ray and DVDs that are region locked , but maybe in time , when , they get over these hang ups , they maybe can make model of this player that will be able to ? I am glad for now , I have not seen any 4K Discs that are region locked , there might be ? I just have not seen any yet .

I bought this one a couple of months ago and there is a major let down with it. sadly, not one review I read or watched mentions it. pure insanity but if you select the dolby vision output in the menu it converts everything to dolby vision, even normal blu-rays / sdr. To avoid this you need to go each time in the player menu to chance the settings of the player.

One reviewer said if you set it to off it will stay there. I guess you do it in the menue when you want it on or off.

This is the first player I've found with video equal to my Oppo UDP-205 player. The dual HDMI outs let you avoid passing the video signal thru our processor/receiver. Best player right now for the money by far. Loads fast and streams amazing video quality too.

2024 good review. I got one and sent it back to slow for loading . Did not recognise some format (sound) slow response for controls ie fast forwarding etc disappointed

I have a tech challenging question. Can i... Watch Videos (MP4, MKV, AVI etc) via USB and does it read the SRT files (Subtitles). I download a lot of foreign movies and it somes with a subtitles file, i usually use VLC player on my laptop and it worked on my previous TV, Not on my new tv.. Im looking for a dvd player with usb that has this. i really need subtitles to read. Please if you own this dvd player, can you test this and let me know, even show me a snapshot or video would be appreciated and i can buy asap. Regards

I have just bought this player. I have two questions though, which I hope you could answer, and they are: 1. Would I need a gold-topped HDMI cable to get the full benefit of my new player?; and 2. I have many American blu ray movies which I can play on my current multi-region blu ray player, but I won't be able to play them on my new 4K player, will I? And will I be OK to buy American 4K discs to play, as I believe they are are not confined by region codes.

Hi Alan. Question 1. As long s the HDMI cable can handle 4K HDR at 60 Hz your good to go with this player. Gold tipped or whatever doesn't matter. Question 2. If you purchased the player from outside North America, you will not be able to play NA DVD or Blu Ray in the player. I have seen some hacks to make the player region free but I have not tried that. (perhaps I will for a future video). Yes it will play all Ultra 4K discs as they are all region free. As it should have been from the start. Cheers.

I just picked up a region free version of this player after my 11 year old Blu-ray player died. It will play everything I throw at it. I bought it of a seller off ebay that I had delt with before. With tax it was $300.00. Well worth it for a region free.

@@DogFishAttack Yes, I use it for both almost daily and they work fine. I made sure to confirm this with others before I purchased it in May of 2019.

This machine is tiny and does not look anything special, however it’s performance is excellent for £200. I’ve loved watching the 4K bluRays of Ghostbusters 1, Revenant, Grease 1 and of course at 60 frames per second Gemini Man. I’ve also used DVD’s and series 15 onwards of Family Guy look great on my 4K Sony TV. I have not tried the Sony for 3d as I use a Denon 3d player with a Sony projector just for 3d - but I’ve given up saying how good this is as most people’s experience is via TV (too small) or cinema (projection light not bright enough).

I have the Sony ubp-x800m2, which is the one just over this player, and it locks up sometimes, so it's a Sony thing, not a particular model thing. That said... I know people that have Panasonic 4k players that say their units do it sometimes too. I think it has something to do with overheating or something.

Gotta say you have to set the output to 1080p and I think also disable Dolby Vision in order for it to work. Otherwise it will give you an error message.

It will play on any tv. But for best picture, use it with a 4K tv.

On the proper 4K TV streaming a B and a full 4K and just streaming through the Sony Shoneys 20% short of matching the Apple no comparison when you’re having a high-end television set you can definitely see the difference I’m not taking anything away from the Sony it does a great job but I would never never substitute an Apple 4K for just a Sony I have the 800 respect your opinion

Apple never really state the specs of their products to well so it's hard to say. I would say that it's not audiophile chips but Apple products usually sound better in my system than I expect it to. That's my opinion. Cheers.

Ok you can try and answer so I know which model I should go up in. Have heard Playstation 5 does not support 3d so I can use it as 4k plus I have apple tv Nvidia shield tv. Thanks for the answer .

Mala,mala,muy mala..tengo un bluray LG y es mucho mejor lee todo tipo de cds..bluray,.pendrive.etc..

Very flimsy looking. My Cambridge Blu-Ray player is built like a tank 😂

I never had such an issue with regards to streaming.

It’s not the best

I have been very disappointed with this player... I'm thinking even PS5 might be better than this for playing uhd 4k disks

@@JMang101 The picture isn't sharp and colors and highlights are overblown. I now have a PS5 and while not as bright, it doesn't overblow colors and details like the x700 player.

Piece of JUNK. I own this player and yes it works okay for regular Blue Ray discs, but try and play a 4K movie, which is the reason I bought it.. Black screen of death. Player does not have on screen error correction solutions, so you sit in the dark with the black screen. Tried all the poor directions in the trouble shooting Guide, (which is a poorly written document), nothing works. The player is connected to a new Sony Receiver, now I have to start with the Receiver instructions that are blind to the fact that I might have another piece of Sony equipment attached. The days of buying from a single manufacturer hoping the pieces will connect flawlessly are over. Called Sony Customer Service got disconnected twice. Finally got through, spend 20 plus minutes on the phone with an agent, that provided a solution that did not work. Not a happy camper.

@@sidsreviews1110 I certainly would like to , but I am 2 weeks late for Amazon, as I did not open box until recently waiting to get other pieces of my system i.e. receiver, speakers, CD player etc.

@@billsmith147 Amazon has excellent customer service. Give them a call and explain your situation. They should give you a refund.

Every Sony player I have owned has never lasted even with light use... NO WAY would I spend $300 on a dvd player

@@desinho9 i have autism but i use a sony radio for the speakers and ps4 to play my bluray and the radio with the cds
