Sony Trinitron 36" High Definition VEGA Television Model KD-36XS955

Here is yet another Sony Trinitron video. My addiction to televisions and Sony as a brand is very real. Love this TV!

Every time i see one of these Sonys i can never believe that it can produce such a great picture and sound! I picked up a free one last month. I traveled like 2 and half hours to get it. It's got the HDMI and its widescreen. Ive been watching football on it every Sunday since it has a digital tuner. I love playing the PS4 on it as well. It has some geometry issues and a tiny bit of overscan but the picture is still amazing. Great pick up man!

Sony has a really easy to use service menu. You should be able to fix your overscan issues with little to know knowledge. You can fix up your geometry but, its a crt it wont ever be perfect and you can get settings even worse if you go playing with stuff and not setting it back.

I found the same TV for free about a year ago, been playing most of my retro games and even hooked up my PC to it and I absolutely love it. Took me and 2 friends everything we had just to move it from the house where we got it to my living room, but it was totally worth it. The sound blows me away and I love the HDMI port for newer consoles. The only thing that's gonna suck is moving it to my new place lol

I have a XBR-43X800E I use as a computer monitor, and a 32HS420 in the same room that I watch TV on, and you can view the same thing on both at the same time and the WEGA has a better picture. The better contrast means more accurate colors, especially darker colors. The 32HS420 is dying sadly but I'm looking at picking up one of these 36XS955's this weekend! It'll be nice comparing it to the 34xbr960 I have in the living room. And yes, even 4K on the 43X800E doesn't look as good as having accurate colors and black level.

Holy crap! The 32" is the TV that I grew up with! My family used that TV for almost ten years before going to a 50" plasma, I thought the Sony was the bees knees and realistically it was with the RGB component video when we got it, considering the quality of our 24" 1980's curved screen CRT TV we had before that lol. It's amazing how far TV tech has developed in the last 20 years, 4K is damn near a _standard_ now. Seeing the blue screen and date/time/info on the static screen is giving me a wave of nostalgia, reminds me of the first time I plugged my new RGB component Xbox cord in and experienced the best graphics I had ever seen. Which was like 480i lol😂.

This video made me laugh the fk out🤣🤣🤣 Thanks so much for the well detailed story on how you got around bringing that behemoth to a flight of stairs😂😂 I have a Sony Trinitron 32’. So, I feel your pain lol My brother helped me bring it to a 5 floor building, but at least we had an elevator😂😂. And even so, it was a big time struggle to move that monstrosity in to my apartment😂😂😂 but, I don’t regret it. Best colors on a CRT TV I’ve ever witnessed, using my Retrovision Components for all my retro gaming systems. Including my SNES, Sega CD, SATURN, PS1, PS2, PS3. The TV just looks amazing, and the colors vibrant. Just stunning! After 2 years, I’ve been trying to get my hands on this same 36’ Sony Wega TV, for the same reason that it has that HDMI input. But, the TV is just a Unicorn. Really hard to find. And the more time passes by, the harder it will get to find one in the wild. You are very lucky my friend. Hope you enjoy this great TV for many years to come :) Again, thanks for the video, thanks for the laugh, it brought back happy, but back breaking memories😄😄 SUBSCRIBED!😉

Once upon a time Sony used to have subwoofer outs on their TVs. Our 32” from the 90s came with an external sub and connected to that. Those were the days. Now they market the sound bar tech and I have friends that think those sound better than a pair of bookshelf speakers and an old amp.

Usually Trinitron TV's have 3" subwoofer. And all CRT TV's does have a refresh rate and CRT TV's that have digital processing (100Hz and HD models) does have some lag, even more with HDMI because of digital to analog conversion. Sadly here in Europe we never got any Sony HD CRT TV's. Even the best Trinitron in Europe, KV-36HQ100, only had 576i input even though it have the same SuperFinePitch tube as XBR960. Best Trinitron that I own is KV-32FX68E. It's a bit cheaper end (og price in 2003 about 1500€) 100Hz 32" widescreen Trinitron.

I can't seem to find any actual documentation online about the actual size of the sub.. Looking back now, saying that it's 8-10" is a bit absurd lol. I think that it was the the fact that carrying it up a flight of narrow stairs was still fresh in my head lol. I imagine the only way to find out for sure it to take the back off one day. You're right about the refresh rate when using the HDMI input on the television, but composite inputs will have zero lag and I'm pretty sure it's the same with component as well. It's a shame you didn't get these in Europe, but there's sooo many products you guys got in the 70'-90's we would die for including in the car market.

I had a tv that physically looked like the kv-32fv310, but I don't know which model it was. It had DVI (which the 310 doesn't have). Whatever it was, it was dead PERFECT for Wii gaming and PS2. Smooth visuals, no artifacts, no blocking or scan lines. All digital. Might you know what model it was? Alternatively, I wonder about your tv here, is it basically the flagship (end of the line) for the flat tube digital Trinitron? The very best to opt for (not for 8 or 16bit) but for consoles like Wii? Basically any better visually than what I had or same same? Also yea I can relate to how heavy these monsters are. I dragged a 40" Mitsubishi CRT (flagship cs- 40809) down the street by dolly whilst sitting in the back of a van. It was too heavy to lift and put in the van. It is permanently on the floor. It is a scanline monster, I'd say very similar to a high quality pvm.

It is good since it surpasses many IPS variants such as QLED but it is not suitable for 8, 16 Bit and more console players due to the light guns that are not compatible with this type of CRT, so it is better for those cases to use a Regular Trinitron or any regular CRT like the latest Samsung Dynaflat not the Slim ones, LG Flatron, Philips, JVC D, Toshiba there are also people who love shadow mask because even the high end Bang & Olufsen TVs have Philips tube technology While this HD CRT along with those from Samsung and Philips are more suitable for sixth and seventh generation consoles, ideal for the Wii and XBOX 360, in my case I had a Samsung Dynaflat that looked like a flat Trinitron but was of Philips design as it had a mask of shadow and although outside of the shadow mask the image looked clear and even surpassed the older Trinitron manufactured between 1976 and 1988, unfortunately I got rid of it and now that I see people with Trinitrons or any CRT I miss it a lot because the MICROLEDs still They are in diapers.

I found a KV-32HS420 which also has HDMI for $25 and it's gorgeous for GameCube games and other 6th gen consoles. I have the same problem, where to find a stand for it.

psfanboy79 gotcha. Great thing about mine is it is HD but with 4:3, so my HDMI modded Dreamcast, Gamecube and N64 look amazing. I've seen plenty of the widescreen versions for sale but never seen another like mine that has HDMI.

Look up the code, the led on the front should blink a certain number of times. Its probably 6 or 7, have to de-solder and re-solder a couple chips on the board or replace the power supply. There are guides online on how to do it.

Mate, if only we had HD big screen consumer 4:3 TV sets in the UK, there are a couple of amazing big 32-36" WS progressive EDTV CRT sets available, and they are great for WS content, but the only HD 4:3 CRTs are the HD BVM video monitors that go up to 21", a far cry from 34", there are some Arcade monitors up to 28" that can do 1024x768, but again this falls pretty short, the thing is, most Gamecube games, PS2 games and OG Xbox are 4:3, and are able to do 640x480p,so you end up with big borders wither side on a progressive capable 26:9 CRT set, widescreen progressive games look incredible on my Panasonic ED CRT (analogue 480p/576p), but there is so few of them, and would worry about getting burn-in with playing progressive 4:3 games on it thanks to the borders. Maybe I'll fly over to the US and bring back a Sony 4:3 34" HD CRT lol, would go nicely next to my 16:9 Panasonic ED CRT.
