Thanks for the great detail review as usual. Waiting for the comparison with HK. Just based on this video, the sound quality is not impressive enough and quite muddy. But the design and water proof is very good advantage.

Yeah absolutely true!, I really like what Sony is doing in the design and waterproof department, almost all their speakers look really cool, but they'er still not delivering an exciting sound. lool pretty clear how the comparison with the Onyx might go but we have to see 😁.

Hey thanks a lot for your great review! Pros: 1.U started the video by saying you expected it to be with Google Assistant and actually they did release it in two versions...I bought the SRS-XB402G with Google Voice assistant. 2.Also in this version With Chromecast built-in, you can sync up multiple speakers, so everyone dances to the same beat. 3. Standard - 3.94 ft shock proof-MIL-STD 810 G Method 516.7-Shock. Means it's probably the most durable speaker out there. 4.Streaming Internet music services via WiFi - Such as Google play music/Spotify/Deezer Tidal. It does have this ability. And you don't need to rely on poor Bluetooth audio bitrate. It's actually much better. Cons: 1.No answering call function - it doesn't have this option unfortunately although they could 2.No media buttons controls such as next/previous song? Although u can ass Google to do that for you,sometimes it's annoying.

@@OCMANMEDIA I'm not an audio expert by any means but depending on budget perhaps you could try a shotgun mic like the rhode ntg2 which can plug directly into your camera or sound recording unit. or even perhaps a Shure SM57. it might be worth asking the question on an audio forum

Deepak Ubhoo That’s ok, thanks for the suggestions I always appreciate it. Rest assured I’m already using a combination of specialist high quality microphones and micing techniques in my videos. Although I have an audio engineering background I’m still open to improvements. I think the video clip in this video may have confused you a bit, let me explain, the audio demo you hear is not coming from the speaker you see in the video, the audio is pre recorded in a controlled environment to capture the speaker as clean as possible to minimise room vibrations. I only use the cinematic video clips for entertainment purposes and the audio is never recorded on camera. My recordings are still not perfect but I improve them every time either by buying higher end mics or acoustic treatments or recording methods etc.

@@OCMANMEDIA ahh okay fair enough! I wouldn't have guessed!!! it's just that when I've seen other review videos for similar products the sound doesn't seem as flat. It might be worth doing 2 sets of recordings. one in a typical environment where most people would use the speakers and one in a sound conditioned environment. anyways bro, good job on the production non the less. hope you get loads of subscribers

I'm looking to replace an echo dot and am just looking into these speakers with built in alexa. If I ask the speakers alexa to play music will it play on this speaker as long as it has a wifi connection?

Christopher Harrison yes absolutely, the speaker works excellently like an echo dot. The only thing I noticed is the mics are not as sensitive as an echo dot, so when the music is on high levels you’ll have to speak louder or come closer to the speaker for Alexa to hear you. However thinking about it now the Sony is much bigger and louder than the echo dot so technically it should suffer that effect. It’s not too bad tho, you’ll have to try it and decide.

You have to do it via the google home app, or the amazon alexa app based on what version you have.

Yes you can, as long as you have a spotify account and you have it all setup in the Alexa app.

Is it a predecessor to the xb41? or to the xb501g?

I'm not completely sure. I was really expecting the release of the Xb42 but only to find the announcement of the XB402M. Sony never made it clear what they intended with this new entry speaker, we'll have to wait and see what happens next year.

My old Sony XB31 is better in my opinion.

Fischer Price wouldn't put it's name on this speaker. It's really that bad. the UE Megaboom is about 10x the speaker. and the smallest JVC pill speaker is at least 5x the speaker that this dopey piece of garbage is. I bought this for 60 bucks off of Woot and I still feel like i got screwed.

It's funny I was just thinking about buying that same product when I saw it on Woot. The MSRP is so much higher than the sale price that it's compelling. But I've seen you mentioned that you still feel ripped off on here and I assume that was you on Amazon as well. Strange that has Bluetooth 4.2. does it have micro USB or USB c? Anyway for the same price you could probably buy the W-king d8 or something good from China. Or for a few bucks more the sound core motion boom has plenty of bass.

@@michaelcorcoran8768 power is supplied only by proprietary ac adapter jack. and the unit is essentially a slightly larger alexa unit. ( "hey google" ) if it is unplugged and just "listening" the battery drains in about 24 hours. i have it sitting in a 4x10 small bathroom and can just hear it when taking a shower. it is a pathetic attempt even for a smart speaker. a flip5 is way more speaker and takes up about half the space. i also have the big JBL party box. that thing has some sick headroom!
