Sony RX100 m3 - (Review + 5D3 Comparison)

Sony RX100 mark III vs Canon 5D mark III! - Review and comparison of video quality and functions for film and photography.

RX100 vs 5D - [both mark 3]
ANDERS
The Sony RX100 mark III, is the ultimate pocket camera!
In this video - I'll show you why.
NÆR
Nærbilde av RX1003, først alene, så side ved side med 5D-en, og så litt med RX100m1.
VO: So, for the first time in years, I've bought a new camera.
But why would I do this when I already have my trusted ol' 5D mark III?
Let's do some tests!
2-DELT BILDE
Musikk fra good bad ugly. 2 versjoner av meg kommer inn på hver vår side av bilde. Nærbilde av at vi stirrer på hverandre.
Så "trekker" vi. Jeg tar bilde med RX100 først, så lenge etterpå kommer RX100.
BAKGRUNN
The biggest advantage with the RX100, is that it's so small, and easy to use.
So, how what about all the other technical stuff?
VRIBAR SKJERM
STABILIZOR
The RX100 also has:
- Continuous autofocus
- an image stabilizer
- And even a built-in ND-filter.
All of this makes gives me a lot more creative freedom. Instead of doing everything manually, I can move freely - and better concentrate about the filming itself.
NÆR
Nærbilde at jeg stiller inn manuelt på RX100-en
VO: Of course, if you want to, you can have full manual control. You can use the lens ring to focus manually, and the wheel to adjust different settings.
PHOTOGRAPHY
STREET PHOTOGRAPHY
NY LOCATION
It really is an amazing camera, and it got everything I want in a small package.
- A fast, allround zoom lens.
- High quality 1080p video
- Raw photography
- Full auto or full manual control
- A high resolution screen
- An electronic viewfinder
- Lot's of convenient presets
- Custom picture profiles
- Good battery life
- And much, much more
- You can even charge it with a regular phone charger!
SITTER NEDE
One thing I need to mention though, is the price. Currently, it costs about 1200 dollars. For a camera nerd like me, I think it's worth it. But if you're looking for a more affordable alternative, the RX100 mark 1 and 2, are still really good cameras.
UTE
But the reason I got the RX100, was to use it as a secondary hobby camera. For hobby projects and KZread videos, where the video is compressed anyway - this is probably one of the best alternatives.
And best of all, I can easily take it with me, anywhere!

I use a custom picture profile with low contrast, both on the RX100m3 and the 5D3, which I think gives a more natural look than the "standard" profile, which often have very harsh contrast =)

What a great story teller you are, different from others, great review. I am afraid to pull the trigger on rx100 IV, is it really that comparable with dslrs? I don't bring my dslr with me because it is not convenient, this is why I'm considering. I also read that there is some noise in lowest ISO too is that true? I am more into still photography than video. I would like your opinion?

  • @EskildFors

    @EskildFors

    7 жыл бұрын

Thank you for the great feedback! Although it can never truly replace a DSLR, it offers amazing quality for it's size. I haven't experienced any unusual noise on lower ISO. If you're more interested in stills, maybe the Mark III is sufficient for you? It's pretty similar to IV, only without 4k =)

Cool review. My questions is that I wander how those 2 cameras stands by Panasonic GH4 and Samsung NX1 which can shoot 4K, and are there DSLR with global shutter?...

  • @EskildFors

    @EskildFors

    9 жыл бұрын

Samsung NX1 definitely seems like the better camera - with a bigger sensor, higher resolution and h.265 codec. But, I haven't really tried it, so of course I can't say for sure. I don't think there's a DSLR with a global shutter yet - but to be perfectly honest I rarely think that's a real problem =)

***** Thanks for the quick replay, as for the shutter, when I saw the "Rolling Shutter Effect", it seems that it can be an issue when you shoot a scene with fast and rapid camera movement. Thanks for your tutorials. Keep up with the good work, and feel free to check my videos (I'm a musician which also like the film medium)

It's a great review but I still don't get the point with comparing the RX100M3 against the 5DMK3. They are two completely different cameras and are in no way in the same price range. But I guess it is just to announce how good the RX100M3 is! Well Done! A great video with high quality pictures and videos. The editing was superb!

  • @EskildFors

    @EskildFors

    9 жыл бұрын

Yeah, they're definitely two completely different cameras - and the 5D3 is obviously better, but also more expensive. So the comparison was mostly for fun, but also to have a clear reference, considering how popular and well-known the 5D3 are. I use both on a regular basis =)

In many areas, I think Sony is the best right now - with lot's of innovative and impressive technologies. and Canon is a little behind. But just a few years ago it was the opposite - so these things change all the time. I heard many rumors of a new super sensor which Canon is developing, which is far better than anything we have today. In addition, I have invested a lot of money in Canon equipment, so it would not be wise to change anyway. And after all, it's not really the equipment that matter ;-)

Great video!! However, what camera did you use at 2:10 ? I'm guessing something with a real lens and a microphone port. ;-) Ouch! Come on Sony! Actually, take the time to finish your (Sony) products before you phase them out! Audio port... who would want that for KZread videos? lol Actually, I love my RX100 Miii in many cases. Size is amazing. Sadly, the menus are still "windows like" and with no memory allocation for custom settings that is unique between Av, Tv, or manual for each custom setting. Plus, the hokey apps like "time lapse" let me snap a better picture(s) faster with my DLSR(s). Yet, with Canon falling massively behind regarding high video frame rates, this camera is the top king for the small and powerful compacts! It really is the best.

***** Yea I might buy it anyways, as it would just be a pocket camera for me. I shoot 5d mark III but I do like these little cameras as well. I find they are great for street photography where you don't want people tripping out over your fullsize camera. :)
