Those opening shots are scandalous. You wouldn't see real time rendering like that for about 8 years after the PlayStation came out. I'd have been extremely miffed if I'd bought one expecting to see that and instead getting 240p resolution, no texture filtering and wobbly surfaces everywhere. If a developer tried to pull that these days, they'd be taken to the cleaners. No one really knew any better in those days.
@quattro4468
2 жыл бұрын
No you wouldnt because you would be coming from 2D 16bit games. You only think that way now because of hindsight. Also 240p on crt looks way different than 240p on your lcd monitor. Even 240 rez looked criap on crt back then.

@@quattro4468 I'm old enough to have actually played a PS1 at launch. The graphics in this demo are in a completely different league to what the PS1 hardware was capable of, and this was plainly clear even at the time whether you were coming from a Megadrive, Game boy or SGI workstation.

@@retromuel I've also seen a number those demos running on actual PlayStation, plus they show actual games running on the system to be fair. Some of it's clearly bullshit, but a lot of companies, even Sony are still guilty of that.

@@STOPTHECLOWNS581 But King's Field has no texture filtering, it's in a massively lower resolution, with lower polygon counts, far lower texture resolution and it has no perspective correct textures. Motor Toon Grand Prix. The version shown here was never released outside Japan, so in the US the sequel was called the same thing, though in the Europe they still called the sequel Motor Toon Grand Prix 2. Both were direct predecessors to Gran Turismo, and the second game even had a mini game that included realistic racing cars, pretty much a tech demo of what was to come. It also included a tank combat game akin to Twisted Metal or Vigilante 8, and a Battleship game as well among other extras. It's amazing how much the dev team packed into a CDROM and you could feel the passion they had for the games throughout. Still holds a special place on my heart going on 3 decades later.

Nobody else fallowed the 64bit jumped and Sega, Sony & Microsoft with their introduction of Xbox, all jumped to the 128bit platform! 😂 Oh by the way, Neo Geo was the only one that came out with a weird 24bit platform that nobody else fallowed. All this tech and the success of the PSX is HILARIOUS when you understand that it was initially supposed to be just a CD based ADD-ON to the SNES but Nintendo pulled out at the last second, forcing Sony to make this a standalone product which later became the PSX!!!...
The older games give me puppet combo vibes tbh
These tech demos are inaccurate to the hardware because they should be far more pixelated. Playstation games didn’t have gradients this smooth

The original PlayStation was revolutionary and changed gaming forever and practically killed Sega. The PlayStation was to gaming what the NWO was to wrestling.
Les next gen n'ont qu'à bien se tenir ! haha
@quattro4468

The footage here looks like (is) a pre rendered image. No PS1 game looked like this. It wouldn't be until at least the Sega Dreamcast when you get graphics close to the ones on display here at home.

8:17 What is this game called?
@nicholasjohn6888
Жыл бұрын

Didn't miss much game wise???? For every 1 great N64 game there was like, 12 for PS1.
PS1 was the only true 32bit system. Nintendo with their 16bit SNES said screw the next 32bit system and went straight to 64bit! That was the end of Neo Geo, too expensive, but with kick asss Arcade like games yet failed in the end.
