    Nice! Just picked up one of these for $120 in a local sale. It's very good, much smoother and faster than anything Fiio make, better battery life, nice screen, seemingly bug free (a welcome change from the Chinese "audiophile" stuff, and is generally a quality unit. Highly recommended.

    I too bought this semi-blind. I agree completely with review, good audio, nice interface but WHY the cable. It's bound to be the first thing I lose or break. It's a shame it has no wifi, which would make uploading files (particularly podcasts) much easier. However, I'm happy with my purchase. Nice video.

    had this for about half a year now, use it every day. Been very pleased with it build quality is pretty good which was what I was looking for. Its also nice to operate and no complaints about audio quality from me, I did end up unlocking the volume limit it comes with in the EU was easy enough to do. In use it really feels like one solid device from how its build to how it operates to how it 'feels', gets back that oldschool sony quality feel. The cable is somewhat annoying since you cant just plug anything you have lying around in, the cable and its proprietary plug itself though isnt bad in itself and seems sturdy. I don't mind it though its one of those sony quirks and I kinda like those quirks they have. A line in option to have it double as a field recorder would have been nice.

    I previously had a FiiO X5 2nd gen, and although the sound quality was ok, I couldn't get on with the UI or the poor battery life. I've been changing files to flac via Media Go and am enjoying the improvement in sound quality. I use a variety of Bowers and Wilkins headphones and prefer to link them via cable. A good test of the unit was to load up some Frank Zappa albums, and see if it could bring out the extra detail in some of the instrumental tracks, The Black Page being one of them. The player is also good for other kinds of music. I've got folk rock, kraut rock, fusion and prog on it, and it handles them all well. A great little player, but it would be wise to invest in a decent case. I use a Tuff-Luv one for mine.

    Apple also use a proprietary cable and no-one moans about it.. At least Sony uses the *same* cable across *all* it's audio devices. Ideal for people who own Sony Walkman Docks.

    I agree about the cable, I've been buying Walkman players for about a decade going back to their first MP3 Walkman and (with one exception that used a MicroUSB connector) they have used the same proprietary cable for all their players to this date. To me, it would be much more of an issue with they changed their cords on a regular basis.

    Good, honest review. I'm looking to purchasing this soon because I want a DAP that has Bluetooth. I have been using a Fiio X3 2nd Generation since 2015. Have you tried BT out on this device? I don't care too much about the proprietary cable; it doesn't bother me too much. Sound, the UI, and portability trump those by far. The battery life is up to 40 hours, which is crazy. My Fiio gives me 10 hours, which can be very frustrating. Thanks! By the way, you have impeccable taste in music! I just had to say that.

    I have a question you may be able to answer if you've played with the thing very much. Does it have the ability to shuffle a whole genre of music. You see I bought one of the cheaper walkman mp3 players and other than it's far too cheap quality for the prices the biggest thing that gets me is you cannot put a whole genre on shuffle. Which depending on the genre I do a lot. So after I return that underwhelming MP3 player would this fulfill that missing option I seem to love so much.

  • @MKMTG

    Barnaby Rumbler According to their website, the A35 can handle up to 2TB of storage, so 200 gbs is almost nothing compared to that. So basically, performance shouldn't be affected by adding a microsd which is 200 gbs.

    Little bit confused about the comment you made about Fiio. Which Fiio player did you compare it with? I compared the Fiio X7 with Sony NW-WM1Z and NW-WM1A . I found Fiio X7 to be better.

    FiiO X7 mk l or mk ll? Which amp module? Aside from sheer volume, can you express how you found the FiiO to sound better? How would you compare the interface experience? Is the balanced out on the X7 a fake electronic “cheat” like the X5 mk lll or does it truely have an amp for each channel? The X7 is far more expensive than the A35, but even so I wish it would win, because it supports WiFi streaming. The FiiO X3 mk ll drove me crazy from bad interface, so much so that I sold it and am just using my phone & attachments till I find a good enough replacement player.

  • @darthmaulx

    @darthmaulx

    6 жыл бұрын

    I had mk I for over an year , I then replaced it with a mk II. Personally I like the sound to be neutral. I like to hear the recording as it supposed to without any colouration. To me it doesn't really matter what the internals are of a player, all I care about is how it sounds. MK 1 had a few problems with the software, especially with SD cards .. they had to be formatted to FAT32. But the player sound really good. I think it's the best player I heard apart from "astell & kern sp1000" which I though sounded a bit better. MK II is ok, it doesn't have the software issues, Although MK II suppose to sound better I didn't see that. Hope you have some good IEMs? After trying out so many I finally found the best ever "Shure KSE1500" , It just blew everying out of the water. The only thing I thought better than the KSE1500 are the Stax SR-009, and it was paired up with with one of the top AMPs when I listned to them. I know they aren’t IEMs but no IEM can match the KSEs. Coming back to the Sony player ,they also had a few software issues.. it wouldn’t have really bothered me if the player sounded better then the Fiio X7 , specially being more than double the price.. Funny thing was NW-WM1Z didn't sound any better than NW-WM1A.

  • @evshrug

    @evshrug

    6 жыл бұрын

    darthmaulx, thanks for the reply. I had an (expensive) experiment with customs which didn’t really work out, so right now my main IEMs are Sennheiser IE 80 S. Hopefully the IE 800 S someday. I had read that the FiiO X5 mk lll sounded better SE than through the balanced output, and I was hoping the X7 mk ll wasn’t afflicted by the same. I want to like the X7, looks great on paper, but ironically just a day ago I had a car emergency which totally changed my budget since my last post, had to borrow from the “fun” budget.

  • @darthmaulx

    @darthmaulx

    6 жыл бұрын

    I currently have my old IE80 and I have owned the IE800 in the past. For the money IE80 sounds good with a nice soundstage. IE800 are really good . it hands down beats some of the more expensive IEMs. but I couldn't get over the slight sibilance saying that some people like that sparkle on the drum symbols. I hope they have corrected that in S series. I haven't tried the balanced output of X7 II. KSE1500 doesn't support balanced input. But it doesn't really matter because nothing I heard could match the clarity of this pair. If you are on a budget and you don’t need a balanced out and you don't mind living with few software issues I highly recommend to go for a second-hand X7. Another player I liked was the pioneer xdp-100r.. not a high spec but sounds really good and the best sound for money player.

    Stay in the same price range, bro. The question would be how this Sony compares with the X3 II, for example. Even the X5 III is double the price.

    Maybe over the X1, but don't rule out anything higher from Fiio.. If you can put up some more money, jump at the X5 III, which has Android, so it brings in versatility and the commodity of the touchscreen. Bulkier than Sony's, but a great device nonetheless.

    @Konad Benz, what was your problem with the Q1 ? It's a DAC/amp, not a DAP - short of buggy Windows USB drivers (a common issue across many DACs), it should have zero issues as it has no UI.

    To quote from your earlier post: 'fiio q 1 crap' - I assume you mean adding a q1 to the x3 ii -> ican stack 'did nothing' ?? Any decent amplifier should make no significant alteration to the sound, unless we're talking bass boost, so I'm unsure as to why you're criticising a relatively cheap DAC/amp for 'doing nothing' - please advise.

    Arthur Watts I hope I understand you right. /no american/ you are saying, that a cheap dac should/would not have any effect on the sound of for ex. a fiio x3 Ii but a bass-boost -sound hmm. well, I heard no effect at all. so why buy a q1 ? zeos praises the q 1 II as thé 8th wonder of the world I sent it back. as the fiio x1, bad functioning wheel fiio x2 , bad bluetooth f5 : distortions on my laptop, hollow, creepy sound like to learn. but for me no more fiio. greatings
