Listening on my Sony DR-S7. Not unlike my AKG 340 but with a bit less of the upper & lower extension and imaging.

Nice work, congratulations, I found very good/useful the video. Sony MDR-R10 & MDR-CD3000 are a legendary headphones, in my opinion ...

Is your background and career in engineering? This video is shockingly informative, and extremely refreshing compared to most audiophile type videos I watch, which seem more grounded in emotion as oppose to science. Side note, would love to see a video from you of a comparison between the MDR-Z1R, MDR-R10 and CD3000.

+nib95 Thanks. Technically I don't have any Academic degree in the field but I do run a R&D company where we focus on Material Science and other fields relating to it. I'll try, the Z1R prices are all over the place. I'm waiting for them to settle and then purchase.

What sort of price are you after? Perhaps I could help out. Presumably you are based in India?

That is correct. 1 or 2 viewers contacted me regarding the weird pricing on Amazon UK of 1300 GBP. I'd rather wait and buy it used for 1000 Euros or something. I don't desperately need one at the moment. You can send me an offer anyway, I get temped very easily!

MrTechAgent fair enough. I do think in the long run these cans might even appreciate in value. Just not for the first few years.

Likely, Sony guys hinted me in Denver that there might be a new Sony in between the Z7 and Z1R so as long as Sony keeps production under a certain limit, it could appreciate but it's very doubtful. Sony was very smart with the R10 and they know how to make a statement product, I doubt the Z1R is that.

I have a chance of acquiring these but I’m a bit hesitant due to their lifespan. How long do you reckon the original drivers have life left?

My CD3000 died after a year of this video. My R10 is still going strong. It's impossible to predict the life of these Drivers as they are highly individualized due to manufacturing tolerances and variance in the VC slack.

The people who say that are deluded. I don't see a Plug making any difference unless you are talking about Balanced vs Unbalanced?

MrTechAgentSome say black plugs are early version and the drivers are more close to r10 in terms of sounding than sliver’s, don’t know if that’s true

@@MrTechAgent plugs and solder variances can alter sound. I just replaced a plug on my sa5k from a cheaper one to higher quality and my headphones sound 100x better. I don't even know what i was listening to before but it wasnt how the sa5k was suppose to sound
