Sony is LEAGUES Beyond Nikon And It's Only Getting Worse

I thought the grass was greener on the Nikon side of the fence. Turns out it redder, and unstable. Never underestimate the camera you already have. Sony A7S III might never be beaten for video.

Yeah considering my experience with the latest Sony product and knowing what I know now, I'd probably of invested in all Sony stuff and never invested in MFT. But hey I put up a new video of a GH5 from 7 years ago doing its work if anyone wants to see MFT still has a place in our world. I have Gh5 and Gh6 and after learning how to properly use them and get the effect I want the camera body is really not that big of a deal. I'd rather have a 5k in lenses and 1 body over 1 good body and 1 lens.

The only way to test if Nikon is the superior system is to use the Z8 or Z9. Better everything than the ZF, by a light-year. BTW, what is the obsession with Zeiss?? They aren't great, most of their lenses are older, lacking modern technologies. I'd take a newer Sigma any day, even a Tamron. Sigma & Tamron are killing it, stop the hate! Forget the Z6III, spend a bit more and get a used Z8, report to us your findings. If you want me to get you an excellent condition Z8 for $3000 USD, hit me up I'll cover the cost and ship it to you. Good luck my rat brethren.

This makes sense considering that Nikon is really much more of a photography-first company. Maybe the RED acquisition will improve things, but I bet they will continue not to focus on things relevant to Casey's particular needs. That's something people new to channel probably don't get, Casey's recommendations do have some overlap for photography, but are really all centered around a very specific set of applications: wildlife telephoto video, vlogging centered on his face, and slow-motion goofing. I don't do even one of those things and I still love this channel.

Found this channel a couple weeks ago, I'm hooked. Re the Nikon vs Sony colors-no one ever believes me, but you can render the point moot by $ponying up for a ColorChecker & making a dual illuminant profile-better color than any brand camera & you can match the colors across cameras. Just gotta put in a few hours work to make the profiles, & have a light than can do cool & warm color temps.

Lets be honest, you want back into good graces of Panasonic, yes only their G9M2 and GH7 has 4k120p with PDAF autofocus still manual focus on the 1080p240 and 1080p300. But what about the potential Panasonic S2 thats 'rumoured' to have 4k120p full sensor readout, then you get A7s3 performance perhaps not as fast sensor readout, but you get best IBIS in business, panny colour science which has improved a lot, natural profile is tweaked specifically for strict Japanese TV broadcast so it gives as natural looking colours as possible. And it probably will have that silly LUT feature from S9 considering GH7 got it. But then if you pick L-mount you can either use Sigma MC-11 adapter for very good AF performance with Canon glass, or you will be only left with a Sigma telephoto lens since Panasonic themselves only has the 70-300mm OR you can get LEICA Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400 f/5-6.3 yes Leica makes a full frame super zoom for L-mount!

Not even kidding. Happens with my 7-200/2.8 as well, at least around the shorter end of the zoom range. But with tele lenses? 600mm, handheld, no problem. At least until my arms give up... Personally I'm not mad about their current focus on telephoto lenses though. I don't vlog, I shoot animals at our zoo. But versatility in that regard would be be nice. Curious if you have your ZF set to have VR linked to focus point? I ask because Nikon mirrorless cameras typically don’t have the edge of frame wobble like canon. If you have the ZF set with the link on, then in video the camera stabilizes the center of the frame. It’s a photo setting that affects video.

I agree that you focus too much on pop. Focus would be the wrong word for manual lenses, because they are often out of focus. Nothing ruins pop more than being out of focus. I would prefer it if you kept the manual lenses to a minimum and went for good autofocusing lenses. Add some zing in post and I'm sure most viewers would notice the clean sharp footage.

You're sampling such a small selection of Nikon lenses; it hurts! I shot ML Nikon for several years and none of those lenses stayed in my bag. The 24-70F4S, 24-120F4S, 20f1.8S, 85f1.8S, 26f2.8, 100-400S, and a few others are that much nicer than what you're using. I know they aren't great for vlogging use. You can get a $150 Neewer E to Z adapter and use your e-mount lenses on a Z, with a slight hit to AF-C. Nikon could really use some more lens options, and a wicked APS-C or ZV FX competitor. So far the rumors aren't very exciting for the Z6III when compared to my A7CII. I hope I'm wrong. The Z8 and ZF weren't for me, and some of the UI choices (limitations) are a bit of a concern.
