    UPDATE: A viewer has contacted us with a way of turning off the auto off / standby mode! "you can hold INDICATORS down for 5 seconds, and it disables (and switches between) the auto-standby function. I've disabled auto-standby and it works fine". Page 20 of the manual. I should have reviewed the guide better, my bad, but huge shout out to Alistair to dropping us an email!

    Thanks for the vid, it helped with my decision making. I bought this sound bar and very happy with the purchase, I wanted a Sonos surround sound but just too expensive. This is a great setup, got my Apple TV plugged into the bar and throughput to arc, and PlayStation into the other 4K port. The sound is clear even when really low vol, my last sound bar even at 50 vol you’d struggle to hear whispers in movies. The base is sufficient, it’s not gonna shake the walls but you can tell there is a bass and it’s direct. I haven’t had any time out issues that others have said with it turning off with long standby. My tv is Sony too so perhaps a factor? My Apple remote controls the volume too, so don’t need to worry about the extra remote unless tweaking the sound. It was literally plug and play for me. 👌🏼

    Excellent video. A friend was looking for a mid-budget sound system for their TV, and since their apartment won't have the space for a true 5.1 or a 7.1, this was the best pick I thought. This video sealed the deal for me! P.S. When you said "footage of me enjoying one of those samples" I thought it was literally gonna be a video of your facial expressions as you enjoyed it 😂 Slightly disappointed it wasn't that tbh.

    Great review, and that sound bar sounds like a great deal for the price coming from Sony. My wife and i recently picked up a Vizio SB36512 Atmos 5.1.2 soundbar with wireless subwoofer where the rear satellite speakers wire to the sub. I'll tell you what, for 279 USD, "factory refurbished" that thing (other than a few glitches sometimes with timing issues where the lips don't match the sound on our cable box, never on the streaming services) has been an amazing experience! Atmos, when actually available, (you can purchase digital movies online with the true Atmos sound) is just stunning. I hope you enjoy that soundbar for years to come, and hopefully more streaming services will update their movies to Atmos and 4K soon enough! Cheers, Tony

    Thanks Tony! That Vizio looks good! Two rear speakers and two ceiling facing from the soundbar will help out with a more natural Atmos experience, rather than the simulated like with the HT-X8500. It retails for £599 in the UK, double the price :/

    Yes it's was one of those lucky deals that comes up manufacturer "refurbished" on Amazon every once in a while for $279, I kept my eye on it for a while at full price, and when that option came up I snatched it quickly! It sounds absolutely amazing!! Even still, at entry level I'm sure the Sony sounds pretty good, their products have been held to stringent quality control for years, and at 300 pounds this seems like a sweet deal either way. Thanks again for the great content!

    If I were you, I'd wait till one of the soundbars in this range have both upward firing speakers as well as eARC. LGs are great but lack TruHD sound. Atmos is truly a gimmick and is no better than 5.1 without upward firing speakers. If your TV only supports ARC, pick an LG one.

    First of all a great review ! Just had a question that Netflix has DD plus content wrapped in Atmos for few titles. Now, in many online forums i have read that connecting a Atmos supported soundbar via ARC ( HDMI 2.0) with Tv will give you Atmos output in the soundbar, as the netflix and similiar streaming apps do not use TrueHD ( a lossless format) but rather use DD plus ( a lossy one) wrapped in Atmos metadata and ARC can transmit that. My TV doesn't have any of 2.1 ports ( so No eARC naturally ). should i buy this bar? Whats your take on it ?

  • @TechNuovo

    @TechNuovo

    4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for watching! You are correct, there are two types of Atmos, one for ARC and eARC. The difference? You wouldn’t notice at all in this soundbar, you’d need a better system with ceiling speakers and even then, you may not notice the difference. It’s a great soundbar for the money and I’d easily recommend it but in doesn’t offer the best Atmos experience!

    You dont need hdmi 2.1 for atmos. If you tv support hdmi 2.0 you can recieve Atmos but the thing is your tv needs to support Atmos you have to look if the tv does. If it does not you can buy this soundbar because it has the option vertical sound like all sony soundbars had and that is or close to Atmos im not sure. To make sure you should go to the store and ask

    Great and honest review, we are occasional movie and web series family but music is primary. But want to go with something that supports virtual Atmos for the additional effect. Our TV is latest with eARC. We use Google Home for music, and I was planning to pair this via Bluetooth to Google Home as Chromecast is not built in which is bit of a shame. Have you tried doing that? But even more worring question is issue around it switching off automatically in 15-20 mins, will that come in the way for playing on demand music via Google Home, could you comment on the same? Is their a way to wake up in settings? Also can we connect a Chromecast Audio to it which could be better option to Bluetooth paring.

    Hi! Thanks for watching and commenting! I’ve not tried connecting google home up to it, I only connected my smartphone via Bluetooth. I fear you could be correct, I’m not sure waking up google home will wake up the soundbar too! It may, but I think it’s unlikely. I’ve not found a way of adjusting the wake up / snooze duration etc yet. My kids will walk away to play, come back and still have to turn the soundbar on seperately.

    I need some advice. I'm intending on buying a soundbar due to the Xmas sales they're on discount. I'm looking to use it with my Sony 65". All my content is streamed, I have no devices connected to the TV and I don't intend to connect any devices in the future. I need it mainly for better quality sound in movies/TV Shows. My questions therefore are: 1. Is it more beneficial to purchase this one or the Sony HT-S350 which is £100 cheaper than the one you have reviewed. 2.Even though I'll have no devices connected should I connect via BT or HDMI? 3. Do you have a suggestion for any other soundbar suited to my needs. Subbed and liked :)

    The price of this is coming down all the time, so I wouldn’t go for the S350. As this goes down, as does the newer model, the HT G700, which on paper should perform better, although we’ve yet to test it. No BT, HDMI Arc only 👍

    Sounds good except the two little subs can clip when there’s too much base it’s good for Netflix you tube music DVD movies but once you start introducing Blu Ray audio into it the bass makes the whole thing clip. Most blu Rays I’ve tested are fine but some have really deep base and those little subs can’t keep up with the really low frequencies. It dose a good job with mid to high level base but not low level.

    Hello mate! Fantastic video brother 👍 Ive just bought this soundbar for £130 refurbished from Ebay. Said it had deep scratches on it but ive barely seen any! Thankfully it works fine though ive yet to watch a film on my new 4k blu ray player. Ive bought it for my 4k blu rays n ps5, i dont stream movies. Because i got it so cheap theres no manuels with it. I could do with one especially for the remote. Hope you can answer these few questions ive got for you. When i watch a 4k blu ray movie should i just press movie or if i press auto sound will that detect whatever your watching and choose for you? Does enabling the Vertical S disable dolby atmos etc or just add to it? Another guy who reviewed this soundbar said he only used auto sound and cinema when watching films. Youve had it for ages fella...whats your controller tips? Cheers mate ✌️👍

  • @TechNuovo

    @TechNuovo

    9 ай бұрын

    Hi! When watching a move, the soundbar should automatically know if you can playback Dolby or DTS and will light up saying so. Vertical S is Sonys surround sound and becomes void when Dolby or DTS is active. I generally keep it to movies and then IF any content I'm playing through my TV has Dolby, it automatically switches to that. Vertical S is always on unless Dolby is. I never use the remote control.

    Cheers for the review. I am really tempted to pick this up. I don't expect a surround sound experience, I just want something that sounds better than my TVs speakers (LG C8) to give clearer voice (especially at lower volumes) and to use with Spotify. Ideally I want to spend under £400 so this looks like a decent option. One thing I am a bit confused about is ARC. My understanding is having the PS4 Pro plugged into the TV (as it is currently setup) then the TV will deal with handing over the audio to the soundbar via ARC so I shouldn't have to plug the PS4 into the soundbar correct?

    A good 5.1 system always beats a soundbar in my opinion BUT soundbars suit a purpose, space. Depends how into the ‘cinema’ experience aswell...

    Do I need an Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable to be able to have the Dolby Atmos and DTX funcion? Or any HDMI cable will support this function?

    I wouldn’t go super cheap, say a $5 cable. it’s more about the set up and cable arrangement that will allow the soundbar to play Atmos or X.

    What do you guys think about Dolby Atmos in a soundbar?! Same opinion as us?

    i just got the soundbar a day ago. Im very surprised its such good quality sound. the volume is good but not extreem but loud enough for an apartement if you sit in front your ears do hurt. like the vid says Dolby Atmos ia fun but dont expect to much out of it as you will miss the back speakers, you have the option to go cinema and i prefer that over Atmos as watching a movie. the bass is really good without a subwoofer, then again not like the extreem but it packs quite a punch. if you look for a budget soundbar with Atmos and you dont want to pay like close to 1000 euro' this you should really buy its a great soundbar and in my opinion you dont need the others
