    Forgot to mention Balanced Optical Stabilization System (B.O.S.S.), on the AX53, 20 times zoom, and compare the wider angle lens. The floating lens is great for handheld outdoors events, like canoeing, and hiking, and won't give you a muscle ache. I have both, and take my AXP55 (same as AX53 with added internal 64gb, and built in projector), in my coat pocket when boating or hiking. Both are great cameras, but hard to fit the AX700 in my coat pocket when necessary.

    Thanks for the video. I saw a comment that it has been discontinued, but I can't seem to find anything about this online. I have a SONY AX43 and the input for my shotgun microphone died I think. The AX43 has done a good job for me taking video of trains, but I thought that maybe I would upgrade to an AX700 due to this. I like the fact that this has nice auto focus and the nice zoom (along with the ND filters/low light capabilities). I'm going to rent the AX700 to see how it goes, but is there something similar to this camcorder with the 1" sensor and the options that this AX700 has? Thanks for your time and I appreciate the video as most folks have forgotten about us camcorder people.

    Hi there. Canon also has a 1" sensor camcorder still in their line the XA70 but its way more expensive and I'm not sure it's really any better so Sony really was the last one with the 1" sensor camcorder before it recently got discontinued. Good idea to rent the AX700 first to see if you like it (as long as the rental price is reasonable). I assume you want a camcorder style camera, so the RX10 IV, which shoots very good 4k video yet it is not a camcorder persay. Thanks for your comment

    @@techtoremember8096 Thanks for the information. I'm actually looking specifically for a camcorder. I've used the Sony AX43 for awhile and now with the impending repair issue, I feel like it's a good time to upgrade. I take videos of trains, so that is why I am looking for a camcorder as I don't want to have to change out lenses. Not only is it a pain to change the lenses, but I am limited with time to change lenses as sometimes trains are traveling up to 70mph. The sensor on the AX43 is small and I wanted to get a camcorder with a larger sensor That being said, I am not ready to jump to the pro level, but maybe something better than the AX43 and similar to the AX700. Any thoughts on any models that you think that I should take a look at? It's okay if you list multiple camcorders as I have time to research them. Thanks again

    Sir! How about the built-in mic on the AX700 is it directional? In other words when you're standing behind the camera does your voice become muffled (my ax43 is definitely a directional mic and my voice becomes muffled when standing behind it) (I'm a fan of the smaller older Sony handycams because they utilize omni-directional onboard mic)

    I used to use a Sony HDR PJ760V with the gimballed lens for my 1080p work but when I went to 4K Sony just had nothing that would do frame-rates higher than 30FPS. Since camcorders are often used for recording fast-moving action, being limited to 30FPS is ridculous in 2023. Unless you fit an external ND filter you end up with very small shutter angles that produce a lack of motion blur that can make "action" footage shot in full sunlight a staccato mess. I ended up buying the Panasonic HC-X1500 which does 4K at 50/60FPS and also has a 20x optical zoom and a 4-hour battery. It's not perfect but the lack of higher framerates on the Sony cameras really was a deal-breaker for me.

    Hey there. I understand. Well, since this camera does have an built in ND filter, that does help the equation, but some people are quite happy with 4k /30 and I agree, in today's day and age that is definitely behind the times. Thanks for the comment.

    @@allenmovies I don't use my X1500 in low-light but the small sensor does mean it would probably struggle a little. Mostly I use mine for catching fast-paced outdoor activities where the great zoom, inbuilt ND filters, high frame-rates and ability to run a fast shutter to allow the use of stabilization in post are all brilliant features -- as is the four-hour runtime on a single charge. It's not perfect by any means and has some niggly issues but overall I'm happy with it.

    This is not the same Minolta of old . The original Minolta company is gone and their name was sold off. Also for anyone reading this, the 18x zoom is digital and not a true optical zoom as in the camcorders being reviewed here. But this is the trade off to get the price to $200 . So if you don’t mind that, then for that price it could be a good deal.

Rolls Royce Cars Hatteras yachts and a ton of boats and stereo equipment all bought out by Brunswick the same company that makes Bowling Balls. I bought a Schwinn bicycle 2 years ago only to find out you guessed it Schwinn bicycle was bought out by a Japanese company. As for the "Minolta" camera I was talking about for the price it's a great deal. I called them yesterday and told them I would like to purchase a spare battery and they shipped me one out for free! So customer service is great too.

The RX10IV is a fantastic little camera and I have a few videos on that .. 600mm zoom with terrific picture quality. The only issues I have is that it is not a camcorder as the 53 and AX700 are, and the stabilization for video isn't the best. If you're using it for photos, then it'll be fine. Many people have had issues with Micro HDMI ports because they are very delicate and often the cable breaks because the point of attachment is small and on the weak side. I personally had this happen to me once. It seems that you are careful and am glad you have not experienced any issues, but depending on what you are attaching to it, sometimes the weight of the component attached can cause stress and break the cable near the attachment point. When I had an issue the cable broke off and I had to dig inside the port and get the piece of the cable out of the port. I was concerned the whole port was fried, but I was lucky. More and more cameras now are offering full size HDMI ports for this reason due to photographers lamenting about this issue. The full sized HDMI points are known to be sturdier. This is why I mentioned that in the review.

    @@techtoremember8096I have just bought a 2nd AX53 after making a mistake with a CX-405 (didn't realise it was low noisy quality), and I use the HDMI out regularly. Interesting they're going back to full size. Even the mini HDMI was fine on my XR500V, and it survived being yanked quite a few times. I don't think this micro port would survive many yanks, so I am trying to be extra careful. You can see the connector being pulled down with just the weight of the cable, but if, as you say, it's the cable that breaks and not the port, then that is better than I feared. I wish the port was on the rear like the AX700, but that is quite bulky and expensive, and I really am quite content with the picture quality on the AX53. Going down to the CX405 was a shock, but wonderful Amazon let me return it. Thanks goodness for Amazon. P.S. I have my first 4K TV arriving Monday, so I will find this out soon, but do you know if 120hz TVs' motion-smoothing will smooth out the 4K 25fps output? It should do in theory. I want to get a 4K display from the camera, but I want to see 50fps, not 25 (in UK).

    So, i bought it used, and i found a very strange and unfortunate imitation. You can only record 600 total XAVC-S clips on the AX700. Even if you have more than half of your memory card empty, it wont let you. I record a lot of quick clips, so they start to add up. I popped in a card from my AX53, which had about 1000 clips on it already, but there was still 100GB left on the card. And it wouldn't allow me to record. Very strange limitation, its even in the manual. The AX100 didnt have this issue.

    Hi there, so your comment got me very curious and I went through the AX700 manual. You mentioned that this limitation is in the manual. Pages 19 and 24 of the U. S. manual discuss recording times/etc. depending on the storage of the SD card. There is an overall 13 hour limit for a specific clip but there is no mention of a 600 clip limit anywhere that I found going through the manual but maybe I missed it.. Can you direct me to what page in the manual you saw this? You are right, this is a strange limitation which I never heard about --But a few things come to mind:- I don't know what you are recording but even if it they are average of 15 second clips, which is certainly short, that gives you 4 per minute so that would give you 150 minutes or 2.5 hours of video on your card before it shuts down which doesn't seem unreasonable. Cards are so tiny and small and cheap you can just pop another in as you approach the limit. There is even a second card slot in the camera to store it. By the way did you try setting relay recording in the menu so that when the first card fills up it automatically will record to the second? Finally I would try again with a different card (not from your AX53) which might be causing an issue and format the new card in the camera. Sometimes a card imported from a different camera has a different formatting system and can cause issues especially with Sony cameras. Make sure its a name brand fast card and let me know.

    2 Very different animals. If you are a casual shooter then your s23 is fine. But if you are into manual adjustments, and are more particular about shooting video then a camcorder is the way to go. Cell phones have come a long way but still lack a VF which makes shooting more pleasurable for many people, the ability to make adjustments quicker and easier, if you are recording for hours, you will eat up space on your phone very quickly. etc.

    Thank you for this review! Quick question for you, the zoom on the AX53 has a lot more reach than the AX700. In your opinion, is it good once its over the AX700's max zoom level? Also, the stabilization: does the AX53 stabilize better than the AX700? I'm trying to choose between the 2, and the lack of information honestly sucks! I read that the AX53 has the best stabilization - let me know your opinion. Thank you very much! And BTW that lady shooting a video of herself is exactly whats wrong with society today! haha :D

  • @techtoremember8096

    @techtoremember8096

    Hi! Yes the big advantage of the AX53 is the longer zoom, for sure and as I said in the video, much of that extra reach is clear image zoom, so its not a real true optical zoom difference, so be aware of that. The stabilization is very close between the two I would say. Not much of a significant difference. The biggest difference is the degree of manual controls you get with the 700, the slightly improved image and better low light (somewhat) with the 700. The 700 is more expensive and bigger and heavier however, so you just have to weigh those issues. (pun intended) I would say if you are using it casually as a video for family and vacations, the AX53 you can get away with, but if you are more of a pro, and want to control your video look more precisely than the 700 is the better option. And yes, that woman was so over the top, I had to share that. Thanks for noticing!!

    @@techtoremember8096 Thank you for the response! So in the AX53, the extra reach is not actually optical? I guess I'm a bit confused! What is the optical limit on it as compared to the optical limit on the AX700? Do they both use Clear Image zoom? I don't think weight and size will bother me too much, I'm used to carrying HandyCam even from back in the 90s when they were much larger and bulkier :D I'm just trying to make the "best bang for the buck" purchase, I feel like stabilization would be the most critical feature for me and I've been reading that the AX53 has an internal gimbal while the 700 does not. In your experience is this such a HUUUUGE difference? Is handheld footage from the 700 (say on a vacation or so) basically unusable?

  • @techtoremember8096

    @techtoremember8096

    4 ай бұрын

    If you check out my video on the AX53, I show you when the clear Image zoom piece actually kicks in. a video example. It appears the optical is 20x and the extra "10x" is a clear image zoom. (30x overall in 4k) Its very good, mind you, but Sony is kind of sneaky because there's no indication anywhere when the Clear Image Zoom actually kicks in! The AX700 has a 12X optical zoom and with the clear image you get 18x so optical to optical the AX53 is 20x, and the AX700 is 12X so if you want extra reach, the AX53 has a clear advantage in that area. As for stabilization, the AX53 does have the internal gimbal, yes but its not perfect. There is a little sway especially noticeable at full tele. I believe I have some demonstrations in my videos of the stabilization. Being that the AX53 has a longer reach than the 700, its not a truly fair comparison. its not a HUGE difference however in stabilization. If you want rock steady shots, you'll need a tripod. If you don't mind a little sway, both cameras will do a fine job but if I have to give the edge, the AX53 has a better stabilizer but it doesn't "blow away" the AX700, if that makes sense. You definitely can use the AX700 on vacation and have great videos handheld. All the footage from my videos are handheld and many shots were at full tele. You can get some really good deals now on the AX700 being that its discontinued. Best of luck!

    Hey there. Sony is kind of closed mouthed about their secret sauce in how they achieve the clear image zoom. They claim it is a different process than digital zoom. (not just zooming into the pixels) but I suspect you are onto something with respect to how they can achieve a nearly perfect zoom with very minimal loss in resolution. They apply some type of algorithm to interpolate the image and they have been using it on many of their cameras and it works great.

    Camcorders main customer was the family dad who wanted to make movies of his kids. That was 98% of the camcorder unit sales number in its heyday. Plenty of profit, plenty of competition, plenty of R&d to stay ahead. Now, all those dads have a free camcorder in their phone. High quality video gear is a niche market with nowhere near the volume required to fund improvements and new models. There is simply no sales potential to justify that kind of company investment in a form factor rooted in 1970s 8mm film cameras.

    They are two very different animals. The RX10 mk4 has a 600mm equivalent zoom. So a really long reach. If you need the long reach then that the RX10 is definitely the way to go. It also takes better photos as I show in the video and is a bit better in low light. But if you want a camcorder style feel, and don't need the long zoom, then the video quality of the AX700 is similar to the RX, but with better stabilization than the RX and more sophisticated video features like HDR, SLOG no recording limit etc. So it depends on what you are going to use the cameras for and what your needs are.
