I used to burn a lot of blurays. But I also used to be a videographer so a lot of what I was doing was put on DVD for cheap and Bluray for a premium. I don't really do that stuff much anymore but my brother does stuff like that all the time and I'll tell you if you ever ask someone to make a wedding video for you, you want it on Bluray. It really makes a difference.

Man those Transformers games were so cool. I still remember the muliplayer and Megatron yelling through my TV when a match started 😅

@@jjm4479 Here's another example that proves my point, the Resident Evil movies, it made bank in the box office. So Capcom adopted that style and tone of that crap for RE5 and RE6 (Capcom even made the Red Queen canon in DarkSide Chronicles) and it almost KILLED the franchise. That's why Capcom went back to Survival horror with RE7.

Sony can't even emulate PS2 games correctly on the PS5, what makes anyone think their PS3 emulation will be worth something..?

i hope they can bring back Fall of Cybertron and War for Cybertron into a Transformers collection. And physical too with all DLC and additional content!!!

​@mikeuk666 for people who don't mind renting everything instead of owning with the right to resell if you want or need to down the line. The only good digital store front is GOG honestly. I equate this to buying vs renting a home. Renting means just giving thousands of dollars a year to rent a place that you can never own and never get any of your money back if you decide to move. Like I still owe about 60k on my home but if I sold it today I could sell it for nearly 200k when the original price was only 90k. It's not just a place to stay but also am investment. Same exact thing applies to video games to me. I have games I paid normal or less than normal price for that are now worth a couple hundred bucks.

I use blank DVD and Blu-ray discs to make physical copies of my digital movies. This procedure allows me to free up disc space.

My backlog of games could get me through many years of an apocalypse if I so happened to have bunker with a tv, my PS5 and electricity. But no internet would mean I could not download any games. It would be like the old Twilight Zone episode where the guy has all the time in the world to read books after a nuclear attack but then he breaks his reading glasses.

They already had a 3DS version of Luigi's Mansion 1... I don't understand why they couldn't just give us Luigi's Mansion 1&2 HD... I actually would've bought that.

I bought a Cooler Master MasterBox NR400 two years ago, Micro ATX case with a disc drive slot and tempered glass. If you can track that down, that might suit you.

Get an external dvd drive that plugs through the usb, easy.

Since I use GOG I did burn some offline installers, but some games I will need bluray for, and yes I do have a bluray drive in my computer as I bought the fractal POP Air cause it has two 5.25" bays which fits my BR Drive and memory card dock.

Thanks for the case suggestion. I've been looking to build a computer and have been annoyed by all the cases without 5.25" drive bays as I still have some old physical games that require a disk drive to play. And the other ones that are available have really restrictive airflow, so thanks for that

I've been trying to find information on a Blu-ray burner. But there's so much junk on the market that appears to break after 3-6 months of frequent use. Then there's a bunch with copy protection meaning I can't just back up my movies and games. So overall I decided to just ignore Blu-ray options for my PC. But the Gog disc burning for backup is an awesome idea that I would very much be interested in producing myself.

I burn data discs quite frequently (in fact I just did some last week). I use Verbatim discs, so hopefully this won't affect me going forward.

Disappointing about the Blu-ray info, I've got a huge film collection, 1500+ films on Blu-ray, and love the quality of them. Streaming still isn't a good alternative when you're looking for 'quality'. Hopefully there'll still be a niche market for people like me.

When you have companies who have the ability to alter or take away different parts of their content through their digital platforms; it's really good to enjoy content through physical media that's unaltered, provided of course you don't download the updates mainly for video games. With movies, there's really no worries.

None of my actual computers have disc drives anymore but i have a couple external disc drives that i honestly still use fairly frequently. I just find the external more convenient since i can move it between computers so easily.

I'm one of the few blu ray burners. I had a vision in mind. I burned all the DBZ episodes and movies with the Bruce Faulconer soundtrack on them onto 4 disks. That shit would've been hundreds of dollars to buy in legit disks and crunchyroll doesn't stream DBZ with that audio

This isn’t the first time Nintendo has sued online stores selling this type of device.

The news about Sony stopping production of blu-rays was a little weird for me when I first saw it, but the clarification of it being focused on rewritable media and movies makes sense. Maybe it's because I'm from Brazil and Blu-ray movies are super expensive over here, but I never saw anyone who had a dedicated BD player at home, and even in electronics stores I'd barely see them for sale, with most stores having just one model for sale, if they even had any. Hell, I didn't even know rewritable BD were a thing!

Sony isn't stopping production; they're only cutting production. The Japan newspaper containing the initial report only speculated that Sony would stop production sometime in the future.

If it took the community many years to get PS3 emulation mostly functional on PC, I can only imagine how long sonys emulator will take. If it works great from the start then I'll be really bewildered.

Well actually- it should be easier for Sony to make an emulator because their development is not hindered by unpublished information about how the PS3 works and legal red tape that RPCS3 has to tiptoe around like avoiding infringement on Sony's code(which is copyrighted)...

I think the downfall of recordable discs started when SD cards and USB thumb drives became more and more convenient.

i’ve just bought a bluray burner a couple of months ago to transfer my grandma’s home movies as digital files to discs. i thought about pirating uhd movies, but each disc that size is about $10 it seems which makes it really not as worth it to me.

As a massive Transformers fan, I couldn’t be happier! Replayed the Cybertron Transformers games recently and they still hold up.

I burnt a BluRay disc last week, I used a Verbatim blank disc

I bought Fall of Cybertron on Steam before it was delisted and so I still have access to it, but I regret not also getting War for Cybertron, too. And it would be really nice to have the online reenabled, so I hope they do come back.

@@asapas8 game is not in the disc bro. Very few game work properly with the content at disc only. If you play tears of the kingdom without day 1 patch, game is 20fps average.

Sony just opened a brand new Uhd blu ray disc factory in Brazil.

I JUST saw a video yesterday about a breakthrough in disc technology wherein a single disc would hold 1.2 PETABITS!!!!! That's almost 200TB ON ONE DISC!!!!!! - Do you think this could revive disc formats??? I think it's it AWESOME and REALLY SHOULD come to market!! Having a (near)permanent medium that could hold 3 or 4 UNCOMPRESSED 8K Movies would be a GREAT way to have a resurgence of the non-streaming, ACTUALLY OWNING of media! And this would also apply to games too.... You could fit EVERY C.o.D. game, PLUS the Emulators, on 1 disc for say the PS6.... and it would never 'go offline' like it WILL on GamePass, etc.. PLUS if it had a decent read/write speed, then you'd have 1 disc that holds more than ANYTHING available in ANY FORMAT currently available (in a single drive, USB, disc, stick, etc) What the largest SSD available right now?? I think 40TB in one drive and it costs $40,000 !!! Yea, people would go for this new disc format.... Check out Cold Fusion and their recent vid about this :)

Considering that game streaming on a massive scale is completely unrealistic (similar to how switching everyone over to electric cars would totally overload the electric grid), I would say that a larger disc format is most likely the most realistic solution to games growing larger in file size. You'd still need the SSD, though, to install the game on from the disc. You're not going to play huge games from a disc with decent load times, ever. But yes, 8K movies will need to be on disc for the best quality.

Have not had an optical drive in my desktop for probably 10 years at this point and it has caused me zero issues.

They had both Transformers War and Fall of cybertron on PS4 and Xbox One years ago but they got delisted with the Ultimate Alliance ports, just a matter of being relisted at this point unless it's a remaster

I had a blu-ray burner and got rid of it because disks were too expensive back then and have gone up in price since, just buying a 20tb drive is cheaper for the amount of storage you get.

So will we see 10 videos on Sony going out of business with them firering the people and shouting down production.

Missed the SpawnCast this weekend. Used to something at least prerecorded.

Back in the 2000s I used to burn music CDs on my laptop I didn’t have Internet where I was at, but I would put songs on my laptop and then I’d go to Walmart and buy CDs blank CDs and I would burn the music on to them but now I have a desktop computer all in one that my dad gave me his old computer. It does not even have a diss drive in it. It’s slow as dirt, but I have gotten state of decay to the one on it, but it’s very, laggy and choppy and doesn’t run very well and the only reason I did that is because I wanted to run mods for my friends on Xbox, but I can’t get mods to run on my steam deck yet because it’s a Lennox system and stuff on Nexus mod is made for windows but now I’m trying to get decks loader to install on my in deck the Internet says there’s some plug-ins I can download for cheats so that sounds pretty cool, but I’ve downloaded it from the Internet, but it won’t install

I never tought i would feel nostalgic about burning dvd's, i used a lot to burn Wii and PS2 games, good times.

I don't know who made those SSX games, but damn those are awesome

Megaton musashi W:Wired, developed by level 5 if I’m not mistaken is on sale for PS4/5/switch & PC. The game dropped the latest update with more content and such. The game has so much replay value well past the credits and the amount of mecha customization to make your own builds to take to the online multiplayer PVP/PVE content where there’s cross-save & cross play towards all platforms is quite worth the purchase while it’s on sale.

I currently have two Blu-Ray writers connected to my PC, one internal and one external. Although I don’t use them to write to Blu-Ray blanks, I frequently write to CD and DVD blanks. My primary use for these Blu-Ray writers is to rip Blu-Ray movies. Given the significant drop in price of Blu-Ray discs (as low as 1 buck per Blu-Ray), this has become a cost-effective alternative to Netflix. The high bitrate of Blu-Ray movies ensures superior quality compared to any streaming services. In combination with Plex, a media server application, I’ve found the perfect alternative to any streaming service. This setup allows me to enjoy high-quality content at a fraction of the cost.

Every time John wears a MegaMan shirt I quickly glanced at the thumbnail, see a picture of MegaMan and think for a second that maybe a new MegaMan game had been announced, only to quickly realize it was just John’s shirt…

It will be interesting to see what SEGA does going forward. SEGA clearly has had issues managing non-Japanese development teams, but their Japan-based teams have been popping off with Like a Dragon and Monkey Ball, while Sonic seems to be headed in the right direction. With all these classic IP’s coming back and Virtua Fighter 6 clearly in the works, we could see a new golden age for SEGA.

This has been such a weird transition period. I like that Sony and Xbox stopped ignoring backward compatibility!

MY computer still has a DVD burner drive (it does kinda look like a DVD player but vertical instead of horizontal) mostly so I could also watch movies on it. and Transformers games only one I played was the one for the 1st live action movie

I can say one thing for sure, if Blu-Ray ever does die and we aren't given any alternatives to own movies or shows offline, the high seas are going to get VERY crowded. There are still millions of people across the planet that don't have reliable internet, and even in places that do it's nice to be able to take media offline if you go on a trip or lose access to internet for one reason or another. I'd love having an option to just download movies and shows as MP4 files after paying for them, I do the same when buying music from Amazon as MP3s. But it seems like the age of owning anything is starting to end, because it isn't as profitable as big execs would like.

When you mentioned that bit about the code for one of the Transformer games being lost it reminded me of something similar happening to another game, I think it was Ninja Gaiden 2 for Xbox.

I haven't played any Transformers games, but the one I wanted to play the most of all of them was that action game by Platinum Games that was like Devil May Cry but with Transformers. Sadly I think that game is stuck on PS3.

I really regret that I didn’t pick up the Xbox 360 Transformers game, I only bought the sequel on Xbox One.

If that streetpass folder doesn't tell you how little Nintendo puts in to their work and still has the audacity to charge how much for an old game? Then I don't know what to say.

Despite someone who very rarely buys digital games, the only current gen system I own is a Series S, due to game pass, free to play games, and past Games for Gold games. However, if Transformers Fall of Cybertron hits the backwards compatibility list and get FPS Boost, I'm DEFINITELY throwing down money for a digital version, despite still having my original 360 disks.

I feel like we've been hearing about backwards compatibility for PS3 on PS5 for years, yet nothing has come from it, and it'll probably continue to be that way.

I didn't buy blank Blu-Rays because I don't have a BR drive in my computer, but I did buy blank DVDs alot. Made my own complete collections of the 2003 TMNT cartoon (years before the official release), Megas XLR, and Mighty Max, among others.

I'm pretty sure most people use USB flash drives, external HDDs, and external SSDs instead of burning discs. It'd be nice to get a remaster collection of the Cybertron games. Legit had a nightmare about my backlog last night.

I’d really like to own and play the Transformers Cybertron games, never got around to it just due to time, money, and availability not lining up. I relatively recently bought a Blu-Ray disc drive for the express purpose of reading, writing and burning discs. Just want backups of what’s important and efficient long term storage.

Meanwhile those Transformers games used to be on steam, stayed full brand new game cost until they were removed and now you can't play them anymore because they're no longer for purchase. I never got to buy them because I wasn't going to buy them brand new cost on steam when they were already years old and not a single markdown.

I can only assume that this is to make room for that *new* form of physical media they're said to be putting together, but, then, I think that's stupid, since Blu-ray is still relevant and still currently offers the best quality and most space for home video.

The entire Supergiant Games catalog (save for Hades II) is at a steep discount.

A 4K blu-ray has image quality that no streaming service can provide. This is just another way for companies to lower quality and increase profits.

People are swapping real bluray discs with bdr's on Amazon for fancy sets. Its more popular than you think

16- 20 hours for Astro seems right. Especially considering how fun it looks!

yeah I was one of those kids that would burn cds for kids in school.$5 a pop. I always had a pocket of cash. probably there lunch money lol.i feel old now!

Lmao, same. Except in the mid 2000’s I primarily burned and distributed p0rn of the likes of Eva Angelina, Ashlyn Brooke, Shyla Stylez (R.I.P), Audrey Bitoni and Lisa Ann… Good times.
