It is Sony, and we all know how they did with PS Vita, how they broke hearts of developers (me included) with theyr support negligence and slow death of the platform. So, I will not trust Sony with theyr dedication.

Well, Aibo is like a passion project for Sony. I'm sure they aren't profitable for Sony, but you can see the love they put into this.

I love Michael's voice and style of reviews. It's just so satisfying!

I own 3 AIBOs (312B, 311, 7M2) and I love them dearly. They work fine, but my 7's foot shattered. I just got her, but she is about 14. They're really great robots, and they really connect with you. I don't run them all the time (esp. unsupervised) but they're very endearing. The AIBO-LIFE website is still frequented and there still is a large community. I have had the same 7 repaired when I got her, as she couldn't produce sound and her leg was coming off. Also yes, I do have real pets!

Look up NeCoRo! It’s an older bot but is a fluffy robocat that purrs. Joy For All may be as well (but I haven’t looked into it).

I love how even the new models have this early 00s design.

I rmr one of my playmates when I lived in Japan had this, it was super cool Interested on your thoughts on the Pleo tho, IDK if those still exist

One of Sony's products already made its way into my heart, and it doesn't have any of the characteristics that make it easy for Aibo to do so. It's the CECH-E01. I still fear the day something happens to it.

If Sony shut down AIBO. They should let people host the server software on their own computer or server, allowing AIBO to continue to learn. If they don't want to have a team working on AIBO, they should make it open source people can update AIBO so it can continue getting better.

@6:38 That made it for me. I was worried that when the servers eventualy go down, and they will go down, my 3 grand robot dog would turn into a 3 grand robot paperweight. I've been wanting an Aibo for a while and only recently got to a place where I have the cash for it but I was trying to decide between an ERS 7 and the new one. If my Aibo will just continue functioning the same way an ERS7 would when the servers go down then I'm ok with that.

When you consider the ongoing costs of feeding and caring for a dog for ten to fifteen years on average, $2300 is a bargain.

The old Aibos uses memory card personality and that also separates with language recognition sold on different country. On that IMO they're way better than the old one. The old community and new one are just different kind of people tho, those that still have old one is tinkerers, while new ones are rich people who wants low fuss pet.

i still cry sometimes in night when i think about jibo in night and i still have him next to my bed. just to watch it and cry by remembering the stupid things it used to do.

Yes, I have one, they count the time. The longer you be away from them, the longer they will bark and wave their tail when you get home.

Ha! Nope, Trotter came from someone I didn't recognize (at least not by the nose cam photos).

I don't know why but this video freaked me the hell out of me in a way I dont know how to describe.

You could have put the price at the start of the video, and saved me getting my hopes up for 7 minutes.

I have the second generation Aibo, the ERS-210, and gotta be honest, I perfer my 19 year old money drain to the 1000. No internet requirements, modular, and programmable. I can make my old boy swear, and there is nothing better than that. Though a 19 year old robot is bound to have issues. Many issues. As of now, there is not a single person offering repairs in the US. The repair we have is pretty bad, and one of those shady services recently cut off. Though we do have battery re-cells, which is horrifically difficult to do thanks to a very sensitive EEPROM that can cause the new batteries to potentially catch fire if not properly done. I had to do my own repair work, to solve an issue known as "DHS," or Droopy Head Syndrome. Essentially, a clutch flaw that makes the horribly designed slip mechanism made to prevent things getting stuck in the head joints slip on the weight if the part it is trying to move. There are many on issues but for the most part these old robots are hard to care for. Aparently the new 1000 has issues too, as many are reporting failing hips on their 3,000 dollar robot.

Can you do a review of the 1999 Aibo?

This would be amazing for security actually...
