Sony A6700 Wildlife Photography at Gupton Wetlands using the 200-600 FE Lens

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

I take the Sony A6700 and the 200-600 lens out to a local wetlands for it's first real world shoot in the field. I test the features of the camera and lens to see how they will perform in the real world.

initially I was looking up and saving for A7R-V and 200-600 plus a 1.4x tc but I'm really getting tempted about that A6700 ... Great video Sir. Keep it up.

That wetlands looks really awesome. I had almost forgotten that slurry spill from 2008. Is this the wetlands near swan pond road?

I am impressed every time I use it. I am still working thru the menu's and setup for my particular shooting style. It is a tad bit confusing for this Nikon Brain.🙃

Love the shot of the duck and turtle side by side! That new Sony ain’t got you ready to switch to all Sony has it?

You noticed the duck and turtle. I thought it was weird since turtles will kill ducks. Or at least baby ones. I am on the fence about Sony vs Nikon still have my Z6ii bodies and the 24-70 and 14-30. I probably won’t but who knows.

I feel your pain from the fog..I shoot 90% of the time in a Wetland Refuge on a big reservoir on the Arkansas River and man until the water cools down it is almost impossible to shoot some mornings! I liked the Green Heron, I have never gotten a shot of one yet..We have them here in Western Arkansas but not many.. I liked the duck and the turtle on the log together as well...I'm glad your getting your new rig dialed in! I hate changing cameras for that reason..lol..nice video Ron, your getting closer to the 500 subs mark, if my memory is correct you can start livestreaming after 500 subs but they have probably changed it by now..

Thanks Rodney. Changing camera systems is always a challenge especially going to Sony not sure about the 500 subs and live streaming but it would be interesting to have that option. I just checked it’s 1000.

Nice work. I'm 57 and Broken a few bones over the years. Since that looks like a smooth path I would be pulling a cart and I would bring some kind of chair LOL.

Hey Ron great video I would recommend if you are shooting on your tripod shoot at way lower shutter speeds especially if the subject is sitting still you’d be amazed on the quality you will get.

Thank you for the tip. I normally shoot around 800-1000 sec. I will try lower since this setup has stabilization. I just forget I got it sometimes.

Love your combo of 6700 + the 200-600 !! since I bought the 70-350 to pair with my a6400 and sometimes the bird or the plane is still out of my reach have been thinking about the 200-600 tho ~ Just out of curiosity, could I ask about the camera(and the lense if isn't not a Gopro type action camera) that you were vlogging with ?

Just wanted to say I did that upgrade (70-350 to 200-600) a couple of years ago, and the improvement is huge! Just be prepared to carry a lot more weight...

@@nielsaerts9971 The 200-600 has some weight to it but it is a nice lens and gives you the reach. I would say that it is not an everyday walking around lens. The 70-350 might be suited more for that. But you would give up the reach. Cheers. Ron

Nice video. Quick question. Do you think camouflage really works? Never thought of it until seeing your shirt.

Not sure if it really works but I do know birds react to movement. So bright objects are more pronounced in the field. I don’t always wear camo. I have learned to sit still and be quiet and the birds will get use to you being there. Thanks for stopping by.

I just ordered the 200-600 for my a7iv but I am thinking of getting the a6700. How do you like it for wildlife photography? I have the Canon R7 but it has some pretty bad focus issues that just seem to be a limitation of the camera according to Canon. How does the AF for birds work? Cheers and thanks for the video.

I came from a Nikon D500 with the 500PF Lens. I sold that to purchase this rig. I love this little Sony A6700. The lens is sharp and what I would consider a good buy. A reasonably priced wildlife rig with great AutoFocus.

@@rdphoto2 thanks so much for the info. I tried that 200-600 on my a7iv and it's a great lens so far. Once the a6700 is available it will most likely be in my bag.
