At around 2:20 in this video it would have been very helpful for beginners to verbally point out that you must have the main camera dial set in a mode such as Aperture mode. If your dial is set on Auto this video will be frustrating as many of the options covered will be grayed out and "unavailable".

Just to note, at 25:50 instead of repeated thumb presses you can just spin the wheel to move up or down those columns. Same in all the menus :)

Movie options in 4K are 24p super35 or 30P regular in both 60 and 100Mbit in north america. I like to use the back button focus as I find it more intuitive to separate the exposure lock and AF. I find pre-AF to be useful and leave it on.

Very helpful video. I just want to share that i bought a used a6300 and i have followed each step as you told. But when i enter my date/time settings after going in the sub menus. The (enter) icon wont appear after adjusting the date. Could u help me? Pls Thanks for the video

Because you are still in Auto Exposure with Auto ISO selected you have to use the Exposure Compensation Control to adjust exposure.

Hey man. I did this set up and found it very useful thankyou. Only problem I’m hoping you can help me with, is every time I switch from M to 1 or 2 the aperture is always at 5.6 so the start of my footage is very over exposed. What can you suggest to help this? Thanks

skinnyFATtravel - if you are shooting movies in full sun with the shutter speed set to 1/50 second then you either need to set the memory to f/16 or use an ND filter. An ND 32 would allow you to record at f/4 or f/5.6 without overexposing.

Great Video;thanks for this..I am new to the A6300 and reset it to use these setting. One thing I cant work out though is how to change the shutter speed when in aperture priority...I watched your Portrait video and and want to use your S.A.F.E method but cant change the shutter speed to 1/60 or faster...I cant find it anywhere now THe dial is For changing the Fstop and I previously used the joystick to change the shutter speed but this seems to be F stop too now Sorry for being stupid Thanks Mark

Use a setting called ISO AUTO Min SS - this prevents your shutter speed dropping below the minimum you set so long as it does not compromise exposure. Put this setting in the Fn menu for quick access.

you skipped custom settings page 6 In 23:23 , in regards to the a6300 what's up with the custom setting option page 2 page 6? it says af system you normally can choose between contrast af or phase detection but its greyed out, why? it also is invalid with the lens it becomes white when I exit face registration but then after 2 seconds its grey again, to help its where it says s auto image extract page 6 custom settings

Can you please help me. I have the Sony A6300. When I came to look at my ISO settings the first camera icon and menu number four and then scrolled down to ISO - clicked on ISO Auto - Right to get to the minimum ISO I wished to set - but it is stuck on ISA 800 - I can go higher but it won’t let me go any lower to say ISO 100 The maximum ISO is seemingly working OK - although having said that it starts at ISO 800 and goes up to ISO 51200 Have I developed a fault on the camera or inadvertently clicked on something which is preventing me going below ISO 800? Would welcome your advice and hopefully solution to resolve . - Many thanks

You are in the 16:9 aspect ratio which doesn’t use the full 3:2 sensor

Check you have the letters OSS on the lens. If you don’t have these letters you don’t have a SteadyShot lens

SteadyShot is for both but is dependent on the lens being used on the A6300 (it must be an OS lens) - in the 6500 they added SteadyShot inside the camera so it is not dependent on the lens.

Is it possible to set the shutter button to one of the rear buttons?

Everything I shoot has noticeable grain to it. I'm not using slog I'm using cine 2 with cinema color and sharpness -7 with no other changes to pp5. No matter what I try video always looks grainy in the shadows. Anyone know what I could be doing wrong? I'm not going over iso 800.

Not sure then - check the subsettings of Cine 2 to make sure the sharpness is not cranked up.

1 and 2 get saved to the camera the others beginning with M get saved to the card. If you store these on a computer you can add them back to the card after formatting.

That's it - high fps, reduced black out and lag means that tracking fast-moving subjects is easier

It is difficult to say without seeing how you have your camera set up. Maybe you should try to seek some support from a Sony user at a camera club

Hassan Nawaz - if you mean Shoot Mode, I am usually in Aperture Priority with Raw as the quality setting.

Leave the file number set to Series as resetting the file numbering to zero each time you shoot will mean that you will not be able to effectively catalog your files in a database without adding a unique prefix your files. The default setting is the best choice.

Thanks. Great video btw. Most cameras these days usually have a pixel mapping or pixel refresh to take care of dead pixels on the sensor. I don't think I saw it on the menu but I did skip through a few sections :)

Sony Alpha cameras do this automatically. When shutting down a Sony camera it occasionally can be heard to take a second shot. Some people on the forums ask what this is. The camera is looking for dead pixels. There is no Menu option that deals with this as it is automated.
