    This zoom lens 24-50 kills the latter trio for a7c 24/40/50. For me it checks all the boxes. Probably will sell my 35 1,8 just to get this in a zoom package. Thank you for you honest review.

    I think you’re spot on. This lens is great but I need that 20mm for tighter videos. I record vlogs in my car and 20mm is great. That, plus the price? I’ll be holding on to my Tammy 20-40. Hope everyone that buys this enjoys it

    Thank you for your review. Some real keepers in your sample photos. My dream Sony lens would be an APS-C prime lens. 23 or 27mm F/1.8 OSS. That 35 or 40mm equivalent with stabilization and light weight would do it for me. A wider field of view version of Sony's 35mm F1.8 OSS that you and I already like.

    I might be wrong, but this lens is the Sony G compact lenses in one package. There is a slight f stop difference, but I would take this over the trio considering the price and usability. But where does it fit in my travel bag?

    I own the 17-28mm, 28-75mm and the 70-180mm f/2.8 Nikon which I believe may of been built by Tamron. The 70-180mm can use a 1.4x & 2x teleconverters but for vlogging I would use the 17-28mm for that purpose. Sony G Lens is stabilized and I do own the 20mm G lens but they are big lenses. Laowa just announced the 10mm for full frame which I am still pondering to buy. I love the 12-28mm Nikkor DX (APSC) lens but I would love a 14mm or 16mm full frame for the vlogging and landscape wide field of view range. So the best vlogging technique for me when there is to set the camera down on something and then record. Pan when standing still. This way I do not use a gimbal. I believe a lens that can do all is best 24-105 or in Nikon the 24-120 and a prime for vlogging. There are pancake lenses for f/2.8 that can be utilized but they are third party and may not be up to picture quality standards. I am impressed with the RF 16mm f/2.8 pancake lens from Canon. It's also cheap too. Great review as always. Cheers!

    Very 👍. I own the 20mm 1.8 G. so this is no issue. On an A7R.. you set the button on the lense to APSC mode and there you have your 24-75mm reportage zoom. 85mm on the 2nd body and you're ready for tighter space events like weddings or corporate.

    This is very tempting. I do get frustrated with how heavy my Sigma 24-70f2.8 is. However even for traveling, I've found with my A7R3, I'd rather carry a smaller faster prime and program one of my custom buttons to activate aps-c mode (super 35 mode) you get around a 50% zoom (crop) and it's still 18MP which is not bad. So my 28F2.0 is similar to having a 28mm and a 42mm. I suppose you could make the argument for having full 42MP across the whole 24-50mm range though, which cropped in with apc mode can reach to an effective 75mm. Perhaps I'll look over my photos and see just how often I use >50mm on my 24-70mm.

    I think most people will prefer Tamron 20-40. The focal range is more usable, the weight, size, price are all favoring Tamron. The rings on Tamron are butter smooth, pleasure to use, and the barrel doesn't extend much. If this Sony similar to their other lenses, the zoom ring feels like rubbing plastic on plastic. The only thing that could sway me if Sony is significantly sharper on long end and if bokeh is significantly better. Those are the only weaknesses of Tamron.

  • @professionalpotato4764

    @professionalpotato4764

    Stabilization is also very weak on Tamron so that's another reason to go with Sony. Sony intentionally "cripples" 3rd party lenses for active stab.

    I tried the Tamron 20-40 and Sony 20 mm F1.8 and 24-50 F2.8 in poor light (only street lamps) and I was shocking surprised that Tamron was hunting to focus. I was quite shure, that I will take the Tamron and in fact this was “just for touch the feeling” test. I finally ended up with Sony 20 mm F1.8 and to my surprise, I never regret that. In APSC mode I have approx. 30mm with the FF 20mm, but on 1.8 and I’m truly satisfied.

  • @ArthurR

    Good question. Ultimately I looked at it for video recording purposes, and the crop in 4k60 is too much. I think the A6700 and FX30 are both better video cameras than the A7CII. For photos, the difference is so small its negligible. So I decided to just keep the A7C. Its cheap, i dont worry about it. And besides taking photos for full frame lens reviews, I don't use it much.

    @@ArthurR Well, true to say, I have the 20-70 F4 which is superb in standard light conditions. If I was under bad light conditions, only Sony 20mm F1.8 and Sony 85mm F1.8 saved me. I was a big fan of lighter lenses, but that was the reason to have Sony A7C II beside my A6400 to get out of the dark 🙂 and trust me, F2.8 was not enough. If you want to beat the A6400 with Sigma 56mm F1.4 you simply have to go better that F2.8, otherwise it has no point to buy it. But If it would be my only lens, than I agree, F2.8 is better than F4. I own the Tamron 20-40 for my A7C, and it's a nice value prospect for someone who doesn't use the short tele range much. Before buying I went through my photo metadata and tracked my shots by focal length and sure enough I just don't frame much in the 55-70mm range; most of the time I was using the long end of kit zooms I was at 70-90 but would have loved to be at 200. If you shoot events you could pair this type of zoom for groups and environments with a second body with an 85mm or 135mm fast prime for portrait closeups and darkest scenes.

    Please make it clear in the title of your videos if you are reviewing an APSC or full frame product. Your channel used to be APSC all the time so I subscribed. Bust since I do not have a full frame camera I have no interest in half of your videos now.

    You can always use the full frame E glass on your APSC cameras anyway! This lens in particular probably not a great fit, but some could be.
