On the first day, we made a camp next to the big river. We let the river move the logs downstream, so we built a dam next to our campsite and started cutting trees by the river. All of the logs followed the current and ended up next to our base. It was very useful.

This is one of the best “ Intro the building “ guides for beginners, wish I saw this when I first started, but it still helped brush up on my custom structures 😎

I think the coolest feature is that you end up using BOTH building modes almost no matter what. You can use the old building mode to place a blue print of a tree house (for example) and then use the new build mode to add on to it or expand its footprint to make a more epic build

Really good video and I love the new building system.! Something to note though is that you can use half or 3/4 logs to make struts. Struts can support beams that stretch across buildings without having awkward beams in the middle of rooms. This clears up more space inside buildings

Thanks for sharing! I absolutely love the new building system as well! I'm already using struts, should have mentioned it in the video as well while I also thought it would be better to keep the video short and to the point without adding too many details as you probably figure that out in no time with these tips

Another great tip. Cutting out single log for a small window to shoot from the cabin is pretty useful, Looks cool too if they’re all around

Thank you! I've tried to watch the other people build houses and I can barley catch up on how they are doing, this is such and easy tutorial :) Will def need this since me and my boyfriend just started playing!

Nice video, I knew most of this you mentioned but you are detailed and quick to the point on what your trying to teach others. The sticks in the water to was a great idea to stop logs from flowing away, this happened to me last night and I think I'll keep this in mind to stop. Again great video and I will SUBSCRIBE!

this game has some of the funnest base building mechanics ive ever seen in any survival game i didnt really like the first forest mostly cause it was super vague on what to do seriously i spent more time looking at the wiki than playing the actual game lol but sons of the forest is a MASSIVE upgrade especially with the map and objectives i spent hours alone just building a log cabin in the snow forest i cant wait for more updates

You have to chopp of the wood from the inside of the house when making a door space to make the light side of the door facing outside I believe. I tried it like 2 times and it worked for me (sorry for my English 😆)

If you just bring a full log to the door way it gives you the option to place it and it splits them into planks so both sides look smooth and it’s quicker

Yea thats unfortunate business, we live in a world filled with people focusing on fame and views I guess :D I just like to share the knowledge I have from playing games I love. Also covered games like Wartales on the channel which are super small and barely get to a 1000 which I am fine with. Of course I do enjoy the positive feedback like yours which keep me motivated to do what I like :P good luck with your survival adventures!

Woah so that's sorta crazy that is EXACTLY where I built my first cabin, same location, same spot!

Not sure if it matters for weather exposure or not, but I discovered that using ramps for roofs does not count as shelter when it rains (you still get rained on when inside). You have to build a ceiling (same process as building a floor) to block rain.

You could counter that by building a ceiling underneath the 'roof'

If you face different way of the building area for a door, like say your standing on the foundation the door is going to be on the softside will face outside. If you did what you did in the video here youll get the opposite result :) 6:19 is the time stamp. Hope this helps and very good content my friend thank you!!

Yeah sadly this don't work. I made a building with 2 doors in front but for some reason both doors are facing different directions(looks like sh*t) no matter what I do.

Whole logs work on half slat slots as well, it places the one split log and tosses the other aside.

Great stuff man! The only thing thats missing now is to build a custom boat and catapult, I wanna make a navy like in the old one... I wish they add it soon

In my base the door is smooth on the outside and curvy on the inside, so the opposite of yours idk why maybe it depends what direction you cut the door whole out with or something

You can decide which way the door is facing actually! (I think) When I played it seemed like you have to build the wall and cut it out from the outside of your house to have the rough side facing outwards. When I did it from the inside of the house, the rough side was inside.

Yeah, I'm finding it a bit complicated but now I think I can build my base of operations. Is a base really needed or is it just for fun? What defences do you need? When do the hostiles become hostile? Do you have a few days to get ready before they start visiting and or attacking. In The Forest, if I remember correctly you had some time 3 days I think maybe longer.

Avoid the internet at ALL times if you don't want to get spoiled in any way, you could have found out how to build yourself as well ^^ Glad I was able to help with it though, everyone has seen the game Trailer by now which literally includes the Stun Baton 😂

Once you have all the beams connected in the ceiling. You can remove the support pillar by hold C.

@@sqweed653 I have connected 4 beams to a pillar. Then remove the pillar. Those beams will hold on their own with a length of 3 full logs.

Only way to have the lighter side of a door facing out is to do a pre build from the book. Hopefully changes in the future!

You have to place the wall logs from the outside. If you stand Inside and place the wall that will contain the door, the door will end up with the flat side in. If you place the wall from outside, it will have flat side out. When you place the first log you can see a little line pointing toward the outside of the wall.

Can you seal off your base with the defensive walls? I haven't found any way to make a gate like the first game so I just replace logs on my fence when I leave.

Yes you can! No gate yet though but small doors are possible (still Early Access, we probably get more soon!)

Keep the tarp or you lose your home icon (currently) Also you can just place the wood on the ground (like if you were building) and they won't despawn.

You have to do a standard house door for now. Defensive wall gates have not been added yet (I assume they're coming just because it'd be silly not to have them).

How do you find a unfinished blueprint location? I put a cabin blueprint down the other day now I can't find it. The required items for it are stuck on the screen

You can make rectangles instead of squares for the foundations.

Are you running TAA or dlss? The trees look far too good, compared to mine. Also did you tweak any of the gamma/ brightness settings? Thank you 🙏

I have practically everything on, pushing my RTX 3090 to the limits in 4K while recording at 1080p :D I wouldn't recommend motion blur or high shadows though, they're terrible performance wise

If u cut a log in half u can make bracket and so u doesnt have to pyt a log in in the middle of house

for some reason it dont show a home icon when you build a house, i still put down the tarp to have the home icon on the gps lol

Also, should we still be building a wall around our base? That’s usually the first thing I do but it’s a little harder this game

I built one around my base, there’s no gate for the defensive walls with the spikes yet so you kinda have to finagle it with a regular door

Can you build a bed to go into your cabin? Or is the only way to save the game building a tent outside regardless of your cabin?

It supports the structure so yes, without it - your house will fall apart much faster as if some supporting elements 'break', it all falls while the more support - the more it holds

How do I remove things I accidentally put down a piller and don’t know how to remove it

They really need to let you fill in the sloped walls better. I thought for sure I would be able to do it if I used each size log and stacked them up largest to smallest, but all that does is align the logs on the center, rather than like a staircase. That'd easily let you fill in sloped roofs neatly, so I'm not sure why it hasn't been implemented. Hopefully they address that soon, the recent hotfixes have been nice so far.

@@04AMofficial I did discover that if you use the smallest log section to prop up a sloped roof, it will align it with the corners of the logs placed below it and make the big hole at the center look more like a window.

is there a way to add a lock to the door?

Just destroy them with your axe or another tool ^^ You can only deconstruct 'non blueprint' things to get resources back, while everything else has to be destroyed with items

What middle? The middle of the front of the roof or the middle of the 2x2. If the middle of the front of the roof than no. But if middle of the 2x2 than yes you need to place every wall down and connect the beams so that beams are supporting eachother and the pillar can be picked up again but also tricky cause if you apply the beam incorrectly the stability can fail and not allow removal of the support pillar which is plaguing me the last couple of hours cause I cant figure out where the stability problem is coming from

They really need to change the outline color when you place things. White blends in and it's really hard to see what you're doing sometimes. Building in the snow is next to impossible.

I have a bug where if i start cutting more then 2-3 trees they start to dissapear(the logs) ... Also if you cut the bottom of the tree wont they stop growing back?

Hey, so, i build a base ...took me 10h xD .... i got a defence wall all around my house. Its cool, but .... how do i enter it by myself now ? .... or i mean ....how do kelvin and virgina enter? i can use a rope ...its a bit nerving ...put it inside, go out, ..........cancel the rope from outside, put it outside and enter , cancel the rope and put it inside .... xD But..... both, kel and virg cant climb that rope xD .... what to do guys ?

I managed to have two doors on my base, one facing outside the other inside. I think it depends on what side you are when you make the door. Attempts to change it though resulted in whatever it was the first time it was made. If anyone knows how to change doors please let me know because its driving me crazy!

Doesn't seem like it! Tried placing on both sides while I think you actually might be able to manipulate this by first making that specific wall and decide where the door is, Then focus on the rest of the build.

It appears to be determined by which side of the wall you are on when you first cut out the door (or window) portion. If you stand outside the building to make the cut the door will be rounded on the outside and straight on the inside and the opposite if you stand inside the building to make the cut. Once the cut is made, removing and replacing the door or window has no effect on the way it will face no matter which side you stand on to ‘fit’ the door.

I built a base twice this size and when I went into a cave and came out of the cave the entire map reset to fresh start. I still have my inventory but my base was gone and all loot was back in boxes..

Expressing your creativity, building a base that can withstand a massive horde of enemies and hold countless of ressources like a castle. And when they implement the dangers that come with being unprepared in the winter it will definitely be useful then

Store items to get even more, have a ton of everything ready at your disposal to better prepare for any situation, farm food easier and more efficiently, be more aware of your surroundings, increase your chances of survival in winter, catch animals much faster/easier and farm their resources much more consistently, the building is fun in general and idk, why live like a hobo when you can build yourself a fortress? :D

@@04AMofficial Non of which is valid. The game does not encourage hoarding or base building. The survival aspect is shallow and easy, combat is very shallow to the point where it becomes trivial. SO no need for base defenses... not to mention that being mobile is far more efficient than a pointless log fortress.

Yes it is, but also the strongest way to do it. You dont want cannibals to one shot your builds as they fall apart much easier when breaking certain elements without proper support

the one problem i have with the game is that you cant make a good ibex (the gap between the roof and the walls), there will always be gaps so they 100% need to fix that and make it so that you can make two types of ibexes, one which is with vertical logs and one with horizontal logs

Upgrade your PC and/or lower your settings :D I also recommend toning down Shadows and turning off Motion Blur
