Sonos Five Review with Record Player - Best & Easiest Setup Available?

We review and unbox the Sonos Five with a focus on use with a record player! We didn't expect for this purchase to take place, but after the Sonos S2 app release, we found our Sonos Amp incompatible. So we needed a Sonos Five to continue listening to vinyl with our Sonos system. Was it a blessing in disguise?

After doing some research (your video was very helpful!) I think this is the speaker that I want. What I'm looking for is high quality wireless audio for now, with the option to hook up a turntable if I want to later. Seems like this is exactly what I'm looking for.

Been wanting to get my turntable to work with my arc, thanks for this recommendation. I like it better than just buying a port. Btw little oblivions is one of the best

To answer record player questions. Once your record player is playing with the play five you then can group it with any other Sonos player throughout your entire system meaning you can play it around your house everywhere

I wanted to play vinyl to all my Sonos speakers. But I just bought a Bluetooth compatible record player (Sony ps-l310bt). Then I just connected it with the Roam, as it allows Bluetooth connection. Then I just grouped that with the rest of the speakers. I found this was the cheapest method of connecting a turntable to your current ecosystem

This is a pretty good alternative if you have the Roam. Honestly might recommend this hack going forward!

For everybody looking to play vinyl over their existing Sonos setup, the cheapest way to do so is with the second generation Sonos Connect. Bought mine used for $50. It's compatible with both the S1 and S2 app.

Do you know how the connection will be between two Sonos Move 2 (stereo pair) with the line in? The line in will connect to one speaker that pair with the other one to have stereo sound. The question is that connection is by wifi or bt? And the other quedtion is :it is real stereo with the correct separation or it is to stereo speakers playing the same? Thanks

If you're playing the vinyl record in your living room speaker, are you able to hear it on other speakers throughout the house, or is that ONLY for streaming platforms? Thank you!

Curious to know whether you went with one or two Fives. Video only shows one, and it shows you've placed it vertically. From what I've seen, that "shuts off" the "stereo" should and moves it to mono for true stereo pairing. Now, I'm no audiophile, so I'm not bringing this up to be critical in any way. My real question behind the question is whether you're happy with the sound of a single Five? Are you considering a second one as a later upgrade? I think one would be OK for me, but I also know me, and would wonder what I'm missing with the pair, especially when playing vinyl. Thanks, and great vid!

A little late here, but the one Sonos Five has been fantastic. Our space didn't really call for more than one, but if we had a really big living room, I'd think about getting a second one so we could play them in stereo. For us, we had Ones for our stereo playback when watching movies, and with music we'd play our whole system (several Ones and a Three) with the Five up the loudest. I think we overdo it, though. When we play the Five solo, it's perfectly adequate.

Useful video! Question: I have a five and want to buy a record player, and I am wondering if your record player has a built in amp. As in I will need to buy a record player + amp or just a record player. Just because my dad was saying that five should be compatible with record player without an amplifier or something haha thanks!!

It is necessary just to have built in pre-amp in your record player and then connect it directly to five

Haven't tried that specific setup, but I believe you would need a Sonos Port first. This is another one of their products that's designed to connect all your stereo components to the Sonos system. Check it out here: www.sonos.com/en-us/shop/port.html

Does the Arc have a line-in? If so, and your Yamaha has a built-in preamp, you should be able to connect with a stereo cable. Your setup is going to rock once it's fully online!

Only Sonos Era100, Era 300, Move and Roam are bluetooth capable. Your set are not support bluetooth connection, so you need to. add either one of mentioned earlier or a Sonos port to connect with the turntable.
