they would have probably still been married if Sonny wasn't money hungry. When they had the show he book them on tours instead of enjoying, she couldn't take working all the time.

Cher wanted to be rich & famous more than Sonny. Sonny was more conservative & didn't want to spend money so fast. He didn't want to spend the money on their first mansion that they bought from Tony Curtis but Cher wanted it badly. Yes, he kept them busy with concerts, their successful TV show, etc. but, as Cher said at his eulogy, he wanted to make people laugh. Of course the money is nice but if you watch entire shows of their Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, you can tell he loved people. We have a total of 87 DVDs of the 99 shows they taped both before & after divorce & on some of them when he jumps down into the crowd during their banter, he will walk up the aisle & talk to people before getting back up on the stage with Cher. The two had great chemistry!

It wasn’t that he was money hungry, but controlling and cheating all the time. He refused to let Cher try any outside projects and he got 95% of the earnings from the Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour. The lawyer got the other 5%. She said she would have stayed if he split things fairly but he refused.
