There’s something so cinematic of Sonic slowly falling towards Dark Gaia while reaching out with his arms as if he fell off of something, waiting for the player to press the correct code of buttons, then fly into the eye of his enemy. It’s just poetic.

The most epic moment of my childhood was finally defeating him on my PS2. Good god, he was hard. It took multiple attempts to beat him. Hell, even my non-Sonic fan brother was there to support me. Once I hit that last eye, I was sooo damn happy!

It's so interesting how the later port was pretty much an entirely different game. I haven't played either in forever but the wii version holds a special place in my heart

This is like the only reason i play this version. I play the entirety of the hd unleashed and then when i get to the final boss, switch over to this version

Honestly I'm surprised how close the level design for the first phase is to the PS3/X360 version. Sure there's some stuff removed and some object layouts rearranged, but even still it's practically 1:1. Essentially the closest this version gets to the HD level design.

If there’s ever a remake of this game elements of the Ps2/Wii version must be incorporated for the best experience like the Gia Gates and this boss

I honestly love that so few characters could hurt super sonic, and i love the concept that sonic is boosting his power a huge amount by using up his rings cutting his time short along with few resources to replenish it on top of this guy being able to actively hurt you and take more of said resources. It really makes dark gaia feel so powerful because for most of the fight it feels like sonic is on the back foot even as super and struggling to deal damage to the point a rock could throw him off and might make him lose.

At least there isn’t a time limit for the Gaia Colossus parts... :’)

i renember waking up in the morning and turning on my ps2 when i was 7, this was the most difficult game boss i ever fougth so i tried multiple times until i beat him and i was so happy :,) Because that game was the first sonic game i ever played, so seeing the finale with chip's good bye was a heart breaking moment :,) i cried a lot i love this game and the ps2 version has a special place in my heart :,)

I think this is the superior version of Unleashed because of this boss and not needing medals to progress

I still love the PS2 lag in some games, idk why but the lag REALLY made you feel how absolutely hardcore the things that were happening on screen were. In Shadow of The Colossus you feel like they are so huge that your machine is struggling to render the size of the colossi, in Sonic Unleashed the lag just accentuates how fast Sonic really is moving, it just hits different than when it's on smooth fps.

Alternative Title: Chip and Dark Gaia box each other, but Sonic comes in and saves the day.

@@miraclewillow1 I'd personally attribute these things to the xbox360/PS3 game instead. The cutscenes do not match up with the gameplay as well as here, a lot less actual fighting is going on(Chip flying over for what feels like 5 minutes and then Dark Gaia failing to put up any kind of fight) and the visuals when Sonic destroys the Dark Gaia-eyes are a lot more cohesive here.

Perfect Dark Gaia looks like a toy in the 360 version

im just glad about the fact they technically made the parry system for super sonic already. and the fact its super sonic vs perfect dark gia instead of super sonic and light gia vs dark gia is wild like sonic actually giving chip a break because he knows he can handle it himself.

Just give us: 1. Gaia Colossus approach 2. Punch Out Gaia 3. All the running segments 4. Super Sonic Vs Barrier 5. Super Sonic Vs Dark Gaia Long as hell final boss but it would be a lot better than the 360/ps3 version

I hope that someday (if we don't get a PC port of unleashed) someone makes something kinda like P-06 but for unleashed, polish some things and grab what's best about the Wii and the other versions (personally I like the first phase of the boss more on Wii)

From "UnWiished" I'll grab the timeattack rank system and the fact that the game gives you the nescesary medals to progress the game, specially with the B-S Rank medals from each act And as a plus for some people that there was a lot of complaining about it, to split the Werehog levels so "it wouldn't be too long" (wich I think its not a good idea...I suffered with the split levels on the Wii, wishing I could beat them at once but anyway...)

I’m not surprised that the first portion of PS2/Wii version of the Dark Gaia boss battle is Punch-Out!! When Nintendo and Next Level Games announced a new Punch-Out!! game for the Wii, SEGA and Dimps wanted to reference it before the new Punch-Out!! Wii game was released the following months.

This game so fucking good, i prefer the 360/ps3 one but this is amazing also

Why can I still never S Rank this 6 years after first beating it on C Rank.

Watching this in 2024 Sonic Unleashed on the Wii and in general is Peak

The HD final fight focused more on being cinematic, because Unleashed was gonna be the last Sonic game. So they wanted the last fight to be climactic, while the Wii/PS2 versions focused on a more enjoyable, easier fight

Finishing this boss (wii version) was one of the weirdest things that ever happened to me. I kept trying and could never win when i was super sonic (i never knew how to dodge the all arm attack dark gaia gave) and one day when i was in the final fight, my sister wanted me to do something so i turned it off. When I was done i turned the tv on and somehow, the game was still going and i was gone for an hour and all of a sudden i could fight dark gaia and then i finished the boss. To this day idk how that actually worked as i left the wii on the whole time

I actually like this version better than the xbox version and I also grew up with this version.

Xbox360 was about fighting the snake things creating the shield but the Wii version is about fighting the final boss himself one good thing I actually liked about the Wii

It's actually kinda scary and intemediating to face Dark Gaia face to face in the Wii version, it's like he is trying to break the screen or break the fourth wall with his six long arms

I like how this game switches between wii/ps2 and ps3/360 :)

In concept yeah, if it got a TON of polish and improvements. The concept of boss fights in Sonic Frontiers is great but the snappy camera and choppy animations of half the boss attacks isn't the best end result.

One has to be physically close to the eyes to attack them. If one is left from the eye, it helps to move to the right and the other way around.

I think this version is a lot more exciting than the Xbox version, it is a lot more fun. I finished the Xbox version last night and I gotta say I ended up being really dissapointed with the last boss, it is a lot more anticlimactic than the ps2 version which I had already played and beat years ago

I will say that the Phase 1 Dark Gaia is better here, but the Super Sonic fight is better on 360. Unwiiished's Super Sonic fight just felt repetitive and monotonous compared to the spectacle of the 360 version. "Dodge meteor, charge into eye 7 times."

@@g.s.4318 Well I would take this over the HD versions glorified cutscene and just pressing the buttons the game tells you to press rather than actually fighting it.

I own both versions, i like the wii version because it's unique, to some extent but i couldn't beat it, also the 360/ps3 version is the first and only super sonic boss fight that doesn't require rings, i ended up beating the 360 version tho

Why is this the only time you can hop onto other rails? Seems like an odd design choice.

How is it that this game has different styles of playthroughs?

Theres 2 versions of Unleashed: HD (On Xbox360 and PS3) and SD (On Wii and PS2). HD was made by Sonic Team (the main team behind Adventure 2, Generations etc) while SD was made by DIMPS (Who made Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush)

Kinda agreed on this one, the PS3/XBOX version just tells us to hit the shield and quick time event, meanwhile PS2/WII version actually gets us to fight Dark Gaia directly

Honestly I liked the wii/ps2 gaia fight rather than the 360/ps3. Having to do 3 eyes seperately was ass.

Someone combining this version with x360's version would be super epic

Looking at classic and retro games makes me feel like the past is coming back to haunt me but in a good way where I wish I could go back to the past some people say not to dwell on it well it depends on your point of view shit I miss these games I am trying to find ways to re collect and restore them anyone wanna help me let me know!!!!!

You need to S Rank all the levels. To get all the moons, you have to beat the Day Time stages within each stage's time limit. For the suns, you have to beat the Werehog stages with enough rings, gaia force points as well as under the time limit.

Mannn im so ashamed that i could never beat this version of dark gaia on the wii but i beat him on the Xbox 360 on my first try. Also i struggled so much with wii eggman land but i beat the Xbox 360 version in 3 attempts. Smh

Haven't played this game in a while, but I think lives come as item boxes in this game if I remember right, and you get the full amount you've collected back when you start a level. You probably missed a good few. I think they're mostly in the Gaia Gates.

@@PenguinTM Yep! Lives are gotten in Gaia Gates in the rooms you unlock with Sun and Moon medals, they aren't found anywhere else. In the Wii version, however, there is an unused 1-up item box just out of bounds in one of the early Werehog tutorial levels. It uses the 06 1-up icon though, and doesn't do anything besides make a noise if collected.

This super sonic boss battle was way better than the boring ps3 version

Xbox360 version>>> but this PS2/Wii version is very good

Wii version is good but isn't sd good ad the others as you have the cool traveling and shield scenes

The HD version is so much better than Unwiished in many things... BUT, this final boss is PEAK Sonic, it's so epic

In the final phase he just never locks on. I am trying and trying to beat it but he just refuses to actually attack the eyes. This is garbage.
