One of the things I like about this compilation in particular is seeing the way Scott has grown over the years. You can really hear the difference between Sonic 1 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Okay, simple synopsis from me regarding Sonic CD in one phrase: "Style over Substance". It looks cool, it sounds amazing, but that's at the cost of the gameplay. It feels more like a glorified tech demo than an actual fully realized Sonic project.

No way is Sonic CD a glorified tech demo. It's amazing and is the most complete package of any 2D Sonic game. Frankly, Scott's review illustrates how little he understands the game. He even says he didn't want to locate the robot generators or collect the Time Stones, also known as 50% of the game. He basically played through it once and made a review, and knowing that many people don't seem to like it, he just regurgitated the opinion. Imho you can't praise Sonic Mania and disparage Sonic CD - which is exactly what Scott does - as so much of what makes that game great comes straight out of CD.

@@PoutingTrevor i agree with your opinion, i love sonic cd, but if someone doesnt like 50% of the game or didnt want to play the 50%, it doesnt make their opinion invalid. i can understand why someone wouldnt get the time stones or generators in that game because thats just tedious and boring to some people. and thats ok. that isnt misunderstanding. thats just understanding what you like and dont like. his and many others opinions are stiil valid even if you personally see the fun in it.

My dad hated spending money on games so he would always get me the cheapest possible. My copy of Sonic 2 was inside a Sonic 1 box and included a manual for Tail Spin. Both games are just one huge game to me now

Green Hill Zone is definitely a top 5 of all time opening level ost. I vastly prefer the Nintendo sound chips to segas but Green Hill Zone is just perfect.

Sonic CD is my favourite Sonic game. It was a joy to hear Scott rant about it for probably like 45 mins.

this really reminded me that Sonic 1 Review is still my Least favorite Scott video of all time to this very day.

I think my favorite game for the Genesis was a little game called Tyrants. I used to rent it from Sounds Easy Video every weekend. I should have just bought it.

I was a sophomore in high school when Sonic 2 came out. And I know people that skipped school thay day to pick up a copy of Sonic 2 that day. I'm betting those folks are either running a Fortune 500 company these days, or they've OD'd on heroin.

Marble zone is actually my favourite level, it just takes skill to go fast

This takes me back especially attaching Sonic 3 and knuckles. I loved sonic 1-knuckles, however going back, I have not retained the platforming since these originally came out.

Sonic 1 honestly was an all time favorite because my mom played that one with me a lot 😊 but Sonic 3 & the Sonic & Kuckles cartridge are my # 1 favorites! Just found it extremely cool that you could play another game basically or ad characters 😂

Imagine if he actually goes into detail about Ms. Pac-Man for the Genesis someday...

3D Blast is a top 3 sonic game for me

I have played these games between calls every week for years because it makes my brain do the good chemicals. It was a fucking miracle that I did not end up a furry, writing this intending no offense to those who are. They have as much purpose and value as everyone else.

I got Gems Collection for Sonic R…my favorite game in that collection to this day.

Sonic 1 the trick to get straight to the emeralds is simple...Do not touch anything until you arrive near the emerald. Sonic will go straight to it if you dont touch any buttons. Obviously you got break the obstacles to obtain them but to find it...dont touch anything

I was playing the Christian to my head, remaster with tales in the boss stage with the treadmill and actually got past the robotic area before even bottom, but the game stopped me right before I hit the box with the animals was a pretty funny glitch

I think the color palette of the level makes a huge difference for if I enjoy it or not. I could play a Sonic game full of nothing but Green Hill zones. Sonic CD nailed it for the most part

No mention of the infamous “Barrel” in Carnival Night? That barrel that caused most of us pure hell, running the clock out AGAIN AND AGAIN just to learn how to pass it by pure accident? You know the programmers did that to get a good laugh at our expense!

Despite being a Nintendo Kid since getting an NES for Christmas '88 and an SNES on release, when I saw the first Sonic commercial on TV (I think during Magical World of Disney on some random Sunday night) I was blown away... I kept waiting for it to air again with my finger on the VCR record button. I finally got it and spent hours analyzing every frame. Did not appreciate the mud slinging at Mario but other than that, it was a huge turning point for Genesis. Games were pretty clunky and desaturated before then with stuff like Altered Beast and Strider acting as representatives of the system. Sonic was colorful, fast, and just felt.. modern. I still think that Nintendo won the first console war eventually but for a brief moment, Sonic's light was bright and everyone took notice.

You can tell that the Sonic 1 review was a good while ago since he couldn't get the meaning behind the level design or the look of the levels. Obviously time has changed for him but yeah. It's definitely an older review.

i grew up with mega collection plus on my dad’s ps2, moved on to adventure 2 battle on my gamecube (and by gamecube i mean the wii i got the same year as my gamecube), then played colors but never beat it. i never touched the “dark era” games, aside from secret rings’s tutorial stage. overall, i’d call myself a fan.
