EDIT 9/14/2021 - This glitch has been patched as of update 1.04. Since I'm getting kinda tired of saying the same things in replies over and over, let me just make a full-on post here since people don't read the in-depth description. - This isn't on console! This is emulated! + No. This is on console, with me showing physical proof at 1:24 because I am well aware of the misinformation going around that these bugs are from emulation. They are not. The beginning of this video showcases WHY this occurs. - This is a modded Switch! You're hacking it! + The act of this game being on a modded Switch has no effect on the game itself. This was tested on a modded Switch for one reason only: swapping between Patched and Unpatched to see if this occurs on both or either versions. It's on both. - Why would anyone do this? This takes so much effort and not something you'd do casually! + This was quite literally found by someone doing this casually. This can be performed at the minimum of 4 planet hops. This is less hopping than the amount of worlds in the game. This can be easily done casually trying to find your remainder of missing Red Star Rings.

Well, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a way to make 06 freak out like this… after all, you have to go out of your way to get this glitch to happen. 06 is glitchy no matter what you do.

This is simultaneously hilarious and sad. Sonic Colors absolutely deserved better and I hope it gets patched soon. nice that Sonic decided to turn into a fish for the aquarium level though.

Just because one or two accounts on twitter showed it happening on an emulator doesn't disprove the fact that it can very much happen on a legit switch. There's videos that show the glitch happen in real time on their switch.

@@rickestrick723 if you go to a hub map and then change it with another one the game can have memory leaks. That's why the visual glitches are happening. The visual glitches can happen on all the console versions of the game on real hardware.

Ah, I know what's going on. I think the devs forgot to instruct the game to clear the buffer/textures when switching planets. If you look closely you can see stuff from other planets in Aquarium Park, and the particles/graphics are all screwed up because the game is accessing an uncleared and most likely corrupted buffer.

@@kordru Plenty of glitches in Colors Ultimate have been discovered that could be a risk to people with epilepsy. Some less dangerous, some more, but still should not be present in the game. At least not to this extent.

The minute people found out one guy played on an emulator the fan boys came rushing in to say all the bugs were a hoax, despite 99% of the bugs being recorded on PS4 and real Switch hardware. The copium is unreal.

Fake, ps4 is CLEAN of bugs, this color bugs and texture ARE NOT REALLY. And the only problems in switch are the frame rate (downgrade in some times like explosions), loading (15 seconds REMEBER this is a anteciped acess so they can fix it in the final version) and other things but that dont makes the game unplayable

This is easily 2x glitcher than 06. In fact 06 wasn’t THAT glitchy. It was janky yes but glitchy was definitely exagerrated. There were glitches but you didn’t come across them often

@@goku9569 It should have been patched from the start, the fact sega allowed this at all means they put people at risk before the game before it was patched. Plus what if someone doesn't have access to the internet or has no idea that there is a patch and cant get in a good position to patch their game? This is almost certainly actually dangerous for people with issues to flashing lights and the severity of this should not be downplayed. Its is magnitudes worse than anything balan wonderworld did.

Even though people give Mario 3D All Stars crap for being half baked and a limited shelf life, at least Super Mario Sunshine doesn't give you Electric Soldier Porygon after a bad LSD trip.

What's funny is that even without the bugs, it looks pretty much exactly as it did emulated on dolphin. No graphical upgrades/changes whatsoever. So I'm fairly convinced the official release is more or less just the Wii version running on an emulation layer, which is why a lot of people couldn't tell the difference.

@@hunterkiller6800 also, the main concern with a lot of people is the chance of epileptic levels of texture bugs occurring and harming photo sensitive players, and how upsetting it is that a game in such a state was allowed to be put out, and not held back a bit longer. Especially with the switch console being sold as a family console, many kids could be exposed to this. I work at a game store, and while I don't tell people to out right not buy it, I make them aware that they should wait for a patch if they are prone to seizures. Nintendo themself is giving out refunds to the people who bought it digitally, and we all know how picky they are

There's also the fact that this was coming to Switch _and_ the more powerful Sony and Microsoft consoles. The Switch is better at ports than the Wii, but it's still a less powerful system, and ports for different targets like that are hard at the best of times.

Gotta really know what you're doing and be skilled at it if you go for a look like that. Even talented artists like Ben Jones as well as the others in the group hes part of have made major mess ups like problem solvers and that dude's like really talented at a sorta similar aesthetic. Its a fine balancing act and if you're not careful you can end up with something similar to this in terms of how hard it is to watch even if its not a glitch like this is.

Appreciate the video and the testing Lemres. I figured something like this had to be memory leaks, cause Hyrule Warriors DE also has memory leaks (not this bad, but it also messes with graphics and makes background clouds and stuff layer over foreground objects) and this reminded me of a more severe version of that. Hopefully unlike that SEGA fixes this memory leak.

shoutouts to Sega for promoting the Dolphin version with the HD texture mod as the official best way to play Colors.

well there is sonic and a LOT of colors.........they delivered what they promised

I don't have epilepsy thank goodness, but this is still giving me slight headaches looking at this. I've been mildly interested in getting Colors some day, not really a big Sonic player but I'm mildly interested, but looking at all the problems with Ultimate I'm seriously wondering, if I were to get, it whether I should even get Ultimate (on Switch) or should instead get the original Wii version for my Wii (yes I still play my Wii).

If you've got a strong enough PC for it, I'd honestly recommend getting the Wii version and playing it in Dolphin. You can use codes and Dolphin's settings to get it running in 1080p60fps, looking smooth and crisp, with only minor issues (slightly buggy bloom due to the upres, and some issues with ramps and physics due to the 60fps code). Even putting aside the seizure bugs in Ultimate, it's got loads of smaller audio/visual issues that make it a worse experience overall, unfortunately.

So that's why it's called Sonic Colors!

When this game is considered as glitchy if not more than 06, you know it’s bad

It’s not a matter of how fast you do it, but a matter of how much you do it in one sitting. If you were to, say, play through the whole game in a sitting, you’d probably experience this bug.

@@baboiminionbaboi4822 Pretty much for the moment, yeah. Best way to prevent this from happening is really just closing out the game and reopening it if you have been doing a lot of map switches in one sitting, which is just dumb

While it is true that you can hop from planet to planet while looking for missing red stars, you would actually enter the world and look at the level(s) before hoping to the next one, you´re not even giving the game time to properly load between hops. I understand that it is important to look for glichtes, but it is literally impossible to have a program without failures and you will always find something odd if you do the "right" steps. If this happened during normal playing spontaneusly and not while trying to probe glichtes, it would be really desicive, but as for now this is just a fun glicht (like countless others out there). if you have to follow some steps to cause it, it turns so specific to be more than a curious way to break to game.

The reason why people are having this issue is because of the downloaded digital deluxe version of Sonic Colors Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. If you buy Sonic Colors Ultimate, buy the physical cartridge instead. I have played it, and you do not have any of the menacing seizure episodes. They are not present on the PS5 or Xbox Series X versions of the game, so if you download it for those consoles, you do not have as many flaws as you could see in the Digital Deluxe editions for Switch.
