I love Tails, I really do. He's one of my favorite Sonic characters and any time he kills an enemy I always go "Thanks, Tails!" But oh my god I wish I could make him wait for me in the main level and let me do the Special Stages alone or that he'd STOP RUNNUNG INTO BOMBS ALREADY IF HE WANTS TO HELP SO MUCH

I used to as well, but I managed to get all the chaos emeralds by casino night act 2 in Origins with Tails. On the Geneesis, I could only ever pull off a super sonic run with Sonic. They fixed it up soooooo well in 2013

I don't know about you guys, but whenever I'd finish these special stages on the original Sonic The Hedgehog 2, I'd always try to get Sonic and Tails in the center to collect the chaos emerald. Now that the new game does that automatically, anyone else feel a slight relief they don't have to worry about it now?

Sonic *Collects Rings* Tails *Collects Bombs*

Sonic : Collects many rings as possible Tails : Catches many bombs as possible

Played this all the time with my sister when we were young. Laughed to tears every time because my sister would get too ambitious and would start doing continous loops in hopes of getting all the rings but would also hit every goddamn bomb on the way “I get all the rings if I do loops!” “And all the bombs too you clod!”

My big sister and I would constantly do the special stage and races in VS mode The salt we both spewed as one would hit a bomb and the other gloats.

The grey special stage got me like: "Im not going to finish this, ALSO TAILS STOP CRASHING WITH MF BOMBS 💀"

Oh my god. Reliving The nostalgia of watching these special stages I used to play as a 8 year old kid(now 37) brings tears to my eyes. My childhood was the best times in my life. I didn't have to get up early for work like I do now. Sega had some of the best games of the early 90's. I feel blessed for having such a epic childhood. Sega/sonic, blockbuster, roundtable pizza on a friday night after school was the shit.

I like this special stage music.

The smoothness of the special stages are quite different the last I played this game originally.

That's because the half-pipe is in real 3D in this port. It runs on the Christian Whitehead "Retro Engine", so it's not the same Sonic 2 that you grew up with.

Did you know that Emeralds DO (technically) in fact come in all these different colors? Emeralds merely are the green variety of an entire family of crystalline stones collectively known as Beryls (Crystalline Beryllium Aluminum SIlicate) Pure Colorless Beryl is called Goshenite. There is a Beautiful Yellow kind called Heliodor. There are TWO Blue kinds of Beryl known as Aquamarine and Bazzite. Morganite can range in color from a rosy pink to a lavender color. The rarest of these gems is the Red Bixbite (and gem quality stones of this type can be as expensive as Diamonds)

Yeah, but technically emeralds are specifically the green ones. It kinda feels the same as going "Did you know that rubies come in blue?" when rubies are specifically the red version of corundum. That said, it is still pretty cool that the Chaos Emeralds match up with real colors of beyrl!

Those graphics were a lil better that blast processing

The 1992 special stages are pains in the eyes to see

Every mainline Sonic game is now basically this.

Now i wish i could switch from Sonic to Sonic and Tails just to save a few rings

I'm only VERY slightly disappointed that they didn't change the pink emerald to the dark blue one (or a lighter blue one) so it's consistent with the 7 colours that were decided after Sonic 3. I do like the 3D remake of the Special Stages, although I confess I'm used to the original 1992 ones if only because of some visual cues in the half-pipe becoming muscle memory.

Awesome work, especially since Tails' AI in the original version was a little slow (pun intended) when trying to avoid those verdammt bombs.

Do you realize that Sonic's in front and Tails grabs the rings you missed and he has his own ring counter so in the end he gives you more rings. So it's not tails it's you.

Special stage 5 had me wondering if the devil striked up a deal with sega cuz damn its difficult

What about special stage 8? You can play it in the stage select by playing the sound 07 in the sound test thing and then going to special stage but the problem is if you lose you get kicked back to Emerald Hill Zone act 1 but if you win it you get sent to a glitched sonic 2 where I assume robotnick has taken all the emeralds already so you can`t enter special stages but you can't turn super so you have to stop robotnick's temporary attack on the island

In the genesis version special stages were pre rendered, barely gave you time to react cuz the range you can see stuff is not far so you hit into bombs, special stages 3-7 are literal hell for genesis players, You shouldn't be agruing

How. In the living christ. did you get tails' AI to jump so cleanly like that in the 3rd stage?? Dude will legit jump 9 seconds after sonic and get hit by those stupid bomb rings dropping like 50 rings!!

I find special stage 1,2,3,4,5 and the Secret special stage ( 8th ) easy

The ratio is wide, but the game was made only in 4:3... What version of Sonic 2 are you playing, or is it the emulator you're playing this on making it wide?

yes, me and my brother used to play both this stages, much easier, and if you do it to perfection it looks really awesome going both from opposite directions and crossing in the air, jumping at the same time and everything, really fun and you make good memories with your second player, it takes time to learn the stages to perfection, I now cherish the time when I played this with my brother.

I'm surprised that they managed to make special stages worse than Sonic 1's. That maze bullshit in the first game wasn't even hard, it was just disorienting and frustrating to navigate. But this shit gets insidiously hard at the 5th stage. 200 rings? Really?

This 2013 stage is slower, better viewing angle and easier than the original by miles, and tails seems to handle much better that little asshole

Omg sega made the best graphics in mobile in sonic 2 just like sonic cd mobile I don't have genisis but now it want to play sonic 2 mobile instead genisis

I believe that it's real 3D. This is the mobile port and many phones are capable of 3D.
