I’ve always loved alien ant farm. They were one of the only cds during that release cycle that I liked which didn’t have cursing so my parents bought it for me. Hahaha I had to sneak everything else in on tape.

The outbreak of grunge, the pinnacle of alternative rock, and the best decade of rap. Not to mention a great death metal scene. The 90’s was one of the best decades ever for music, because MANY different genres were strong and relevant at the same time. Normally each decade sorta has its own thing. But not the 90’s. Whether you were a gang banger or a head banger, things were GOOD in the music industry.

They made an album dedicated to the music from Willy Wonka!! It’s morbid and dark sounding! Their version of Oompa Loompah is just about like Halloween music it’s so creepy!!! LOL

Oh the 90's. Worked at a CD and cassette store in the 90's and it was such a surreal time. Saw Primus at Lollapalooza 93 when I was 17 along with Front 242, Arrested Development, Babes In Toyland, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, Fishbone, Alice in Chains, Dinosaur JR. Also, met Rollins at a conference back in Memphis along with Ice T about freedom in music.

Butthole Surfers holds up. Anyone who tries to tell me that the guitar riffs in Who Was In My Room Last Night don't absolutely shred can get right the fuck out.

My Own Worst Enemy is an absolute classic. In fact, that whole album is still brilliant and they had some more other bangers, as you showed. There's a rumour that Lit are working on new stuff and going back to the old punk sound. If true...I'm looking forward to that.

@@ratmachine87 It's good but they clearly hadn't found their own sound yet. They were coming off of the back of the grunge boom and rise of alt rock. At least A Place In The Sun was somewhat original at the time.

In regards to Green Jelly, someone in the stream said, "somehow they're related to Tool" yes not only somehow but directly, Danny Carey was on drums and Maynard did backup vocals in that record.

I think Primus def holds up. Les Claypool is insanely talented and I'm pretty sure a lot of current musicians would list him as an influence. I personnaly always loved Primus because of their weird vibe. I find that very appealing

Les auditioning for Metallica at one point is really funny to me.

I graduated highschool in 1991. The 90's were a fever dream. From the release of Nevermind and Pretty Hate Machine to the Ecstacy rave of NYE Y2K. The 90's are a ghost that still haunts me now.

"Maynard Keenan if he was raised on a goat farm" had me dead because I once saw a comment somewhere on a youtube video that said "Primus is just redneck Tool"

I mean the earliest metal and hard rock I listened to was Skillet, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Linkin Park, but recently when I officially got into metal, it was Disturbed and Sabaton. Disturbed doesn't have the craziest music but I stand by the fact that theyre still a really good band

For me, the early 90's was just a fantastic explosion of heavy music. There was grunge. There was Florida death metal. There was doom and stoner. There was hardcore and post-hardcore. There was all kinds of weird avant garde alt metal that couldn't really be categorized. It was just an exciting time to discover new bands.

'Movies' is still one of my all time favourites. Anthology is a great album. I feel like Alien Ant Farm are super underrated.

Both ANThology and truANT are fantastic albums. I always go back and forth between which is my favorite. But the second half of truANT always gets me. Especially Tia Lupe followed by Rubber Mallet. Two songs in 7 in two completely different genres is pretty awesome. Also, their little known first album, Greatest Hits, is fun to listen to as a fan. It's definitely a bit rougher since I believe they produced and mixed it themselves. But you can hear early versions of songs like These Days (which has a completely different verse), S.S. Recognize, and Smooth Criminal.

ADTR was covering "My Own Worst Enemy" on their 2019 tour, that alone means the song has held up IMO.

Primus is basically the more experimental, all-around superior version of early ‘90s funk metal.

"ATV Off-road Fury-core" is not a sequence of words I thought I would ever hear, but I can't argue, it is perfectly accurate.

Saw Green Jelly last year, it was so cool they had everyone in the crowd wear masks and we moshed, one of my favorite local show experiences

The rhythm section of Alien Ant Farm was killer. The drummer and bassist were both big 311 fans and you can hear it

Alien Ant Farm is from the IE and their entire aesthetic sums up that whole scene in the late 90's through early 00's in the best way possible

Alien Ant Farm’s first two albums are great, I’d argue that they still hold up today. They were slept on big time after the success of their “Smooth Criminal” cover with a lot of people confusing them as one-hit wonders, forgetting they did have others that got on the charts. Edit: wow seeing that “Three Little Pigs” video unlocked a weird memory of having to sneak and ride in a coal truck with my dad (you weren’t supposed to have other people in there with you as it’s work lol), and we’d listen to that song. Been over 20 years since I last heard it.

The 90’s is still the best era of music. And I’m someone who loves current music. The 90’s though, overall had such amazing guitar riffs, the best vocalists ever, such a range of songs that went from intensely dark and personal to silly and fun. Best era of music ever!

Every time you play some old punk rock or pop punk, I always see a little smirk on your face. Never forget your roots! I always love your videos!

I love that you brought up that thing about David Draiman having lore about him because of the straight jacket thing. Reminds of when I was in school and there were rumors going around that Tool were escaped mental patients based on the photos in Undertow being nuts. Did that rumor reach where you grew up by any chance? Lol. Also, I agree 100 with you on Alien Ant Farm. That whole album is very underrated in my opinion. Lit is pretty good also! Also I loved that Ugly Kid Joe EP when it first came out too!

A lot of the grunge music still holds up IMO and Eddie vedder is a great singer

Alien Ant Farm - Anthology was one of those rare instances i bough a cd the next day after Smooth Criminal aired, thats how catchy it was, and album did not dissapoint! Courage, Movies, Attitude, Wish, Whisper.. they had very nice sound for their time, and the vocals were very easy on the ear!

Alien Ant Farm is way underrated. I saw them a couple times in the early 2000's and they threw a solid show too.

I was so happy to see AAF on this list. They are one of my favorites from that era. Very underrated. They will pop up on my play list and people will be like “who is that” and I tell them. A) they are surprised they have songs other than smooth criminal and b) they are surprised I still listen to them and have them on my play list. I love the first album and I think attitude and calico are the best tracks on the album but movies is right up there

Opeth also still holds as does Primus, Devin Townsend in his solo stuff of Strapping Young Lad stuff, and tons of other bands from the 90s which includes very little known in the USA but big in Europe and South America, the Gathering, from The Netherlands.

I saw Primus a bunch of times in SF around the time they put out "Suck on This" and Frizzle Fry". First place I saw them was at a bar on Folsom St with a one foot tall stage. Saw Mr Bungle open for them once too.

Jerry was a race car driver always makes me think of Tony Hawk Proskater and ATV Off Road Fury

My god, that fuckin Lit song. I worked at a convenience store in the early 2000s for a couple years and they kept the radio blasting top 40 XM satellite radio and I'd hear that song constantly. Like ten times a shift. lol

Lit is a seriously underrated band. Got a little weird when they hopped genres to country but still a strong band. Their first three albums or so are incredible and ahead of their time. They were like pop punk for alcoholic adults with a gambling problem. Straight up DNGAF attitude.

My Own Worst Enemy is almost timeless in a way. Great then, great now. You can’t put that song on without everyone around you immediately getting into it

"Anyway...Lit is a great band." There's your epitaph. "My Own Worst Enemy" is still a rock solid banger. Sing it at karaoke if you want to get the room going off instantly. Everyone's always happy to hear it. 10/10. No notes.

That Alien Ant Farm album was seriously wall to wall bangers, sadly their later stuff was kinda lame, but at least that one album was incredible. Also, David Draiman was one of the nicest rockstars I ever worked with, absolutely lovely dude and treated everyone backstage with respect. Him and Head from Korn are two absolutely wonderful people, and I was shocked by their lack of ego.

Rollins Band didn't hold up when it came out, Much less now. Though I love Henry as a person. His spoken word stuff is fantastic and his photography books are some of my favorites.

These twitch streams have big beavis and Butthead watching music videos energy…and I’m not mad at it.

Pearl Jam's music is one of the greatest bands of all time and they hold up. Alive, Ocean, Corduroy, Immortal and so on.

I haven't listened to pearl jam in a while. I just stopped at the liquor store an hour ago and the radio was playing JEHRUHMAY SPOKANE CLAYUSSS TODAYUHHH. When I lived in Chicago I worked as a painter for the family that owns the Cubs/Wrigley field and they had quite a bit of signed pearl jam posters/merch from when they played at Wrigley field I guess. They had tons of signed stuff mostly sports merch from famous people in their game room, but the pearl jam stuff stuck out to me because I like them

Nah they weren't as good as Nirvana, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins,STP

Oh man, I could comment a lot, but I felt the need to say that Pearl Jam's peak was that one album. Everything else they did was just kind of OK, but Ten was friggin' amazing.

The 90s/early 2000s was an amazing decade for pop punk. Green Day at its prime, Blink 182, The Offspring, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, many more

One time I worked an outdoor street festival where they only booked 90s cover bands all weekend. I heard Lit's "My Own Worst Enemy" 5 times.

I agree with pretty much everything else you said, but Pearl Jam is just a timeless classic imho. I'm sure plenty would agree with either of us though. We all have our opinions.

Pearl Jam bored me to tears. Plodding, uninteresting, overwrought corporate rock. I never really understood why they had such a rabid fan base.

I always crank Lit up when it comes on the radio and I still show my coworkers the Green Jello 3 pigs video both songs are still great

I remember Jim Jeffries had roast show on netflix where they would roast dead people. Curt Coban got an episode and one of the roaster said this " Curt because you died, we all had to convince ourselves that Pearl Jam was good." I fuckin died... hahaha

My daughter loves the three little pigs by green jelly. She says they are the "extreme little pigs" 😂 she's 8 btw

I worked with a guy who was in green jelly He's exactly what you'd expect from someone whose claim to fame is green jelly

The year after Pearl Jam put out "Go" and "Animal" ... totally different! ... I sang "Everything about you" at 14 years old in a band contest before I learned to play bass, guitar, drums, piano and ukulele hahahahaha

I was a huge fan of Alien Ant Farm and had totally forgotten about ‘Movies’! I remember them so well because at the time, my friends never failed to remind me of how much I resembled lead singer Dryden Mitchell.

Alien ant farm was surprisingly solid. My grandma bought me the alien ant farm album lol. Thei song “attitude” is really sick. On the other hand not only does disturbed not hold up. It never held to begin with. And that Lit song will NEVER get old!

"Does kinda sound like shitty Primus" Primus sounds like shitty Primus. And that's okay, it's what I appreciates abouts them.

Primus more than holds up, they are legends!!! They are so weird and groovy, they were never fully in style but will never be out of style.

I heard Henry Rollins talking about what he requires in a love interest. "Do you sleep in instead of going to the gym? No thanks. If you can't always tell me what book you're currently reading? No thanks." And on and on and on. I feel sorry for his girlfriends.

Pearl Jam video for Jeremy was a glimpse into the future and is still 100% relevant. I’m pretty sure Dana C from tool was the drummer for green jelly. Tim Anderson from primus does jiu jitsu got Maynard into it to.

yes!! thank you for upping the band LIT. I really really love those two peak albums. Definitely underrated and not talked about enough. Also cool with a singer that has a lower, raspier voice. Awesome work as always, Finn.

David Draiman says “Ooh-wa-wa!” and everyone laughs. Jonathan Davis says “Boomahahffhbxdgvvhhcbkjfssd!!!” and it’s all cool. 😅

Come on man, you can't skip what Fantano calls the "domestic abuse solo" in Down with the Sickness 😄 I never heard that in the radio version, so finally hearing it years later was...interesting haha

I love that Alien Ant Farm was included, movies was a great song and awesome video. The original video for movies was great as well, less cinematic but it was the first time I had heard them on maybe much/fuse

My Own Worst Enemy is the theme song for my 20's. I heard it everytime I woke up with a hangover🤣

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater on PS1 introduced me to Primus. What a great time to be alive.

Could be because I was born in 1985. But to me, the mid 90’s were the pinnacle of great music.

I was born in early 90s. And I'd agree with you. 1980 up until circa 2002-2004 was a golden age. Definitely peaked in the mid 90s.

The guitarist of Primus was in the death metal band, Possessed 3 years earlier before Frizzle Fry E.P.. “Seven Churches” is a classic death metal album. Les Claypool auditioned for Metallica Drummer was in Guns N’ Roses in the 2000’s.

Primus and Mr. Bungle are the weirdest metal bands of all time. I love them.

I love early Primus but I still have no idea how they got as popular as they did. They’re just so fucking weird and out there you’d think they’d be much more niche but like you said the early 90s was just a cool creative time in alternative and heavy music.

I used to sing Three LIttle Pigs at karaoke at Benihanas... they finally removed it from the play list at the request of management.

Aqua still holds up. My kids like em. I love one of their song called "my oh my"

The album had so many good songs. "Candyman", "Mr.Jones" and "my oh my" were stand outs for me.

Why there are so few British bands on that series? 90% of 90's rock/britpop songs definitely holds up, also being 10 times less cringy than most of songs from this series.

I guess Finn does not really like Britpop. I however am a big Oasis Fanboy, still in 2021. e. g. Slide Away is epic. And most of their songs hold up. But music is always subjective, right?

Loved movies by alien ant farm and loved the cameo by Pat Morita. Great song by lit. I bought all their albums at the time and thought they were pretty good and didn't get enough credit.

AAF - Anthology album is solid. I always thought it was interesting that the bassist made his own basses to play in the band.

Rollins Band was my first real concert. i’d say a song like liar holds up, but not that one.
