Ligotti is the best horror writer of all time. His stories the only ones to legitimately scare me.

His stories tap deep into the human consciousness, incredibly effective works. Have you read his Conspiracy Against the Human Race? Hope you have a nice week. Best, Jack

@@ramblingraconteur1616 No, because I believe nearly opposite philosophy but I can see how it reads like a horror story.

I, too, am pretty much on the other end of Ligotti, so the sense of fear and terror he creates in his fiction is interesting.

@@ramblingraconteur1616 Laird Barron has mentioned arguing about the subject with Ligotti, in friendly ways - Laird is not a nihilist, and treats cosmic horror as something true to some of our internal experience but not to the universe. I’d love to be able to watch/read/etc some of those exchanges.

Does anyone know if he has any plans to write something new? That would be awesome. One thing to note about songs of a dead dreamer is that the stories don't have a linear or conventional plot. Ligotti has found a way of merging a dream and a story so there's a feeling of confusion and strangeness when reading it. The characters don't have a background and they don't need to cause like in a dream everything is blurry and misty. When I read the stories (dreams) I just let myself flow with it. You don't have to understand it completely. So, in that sense if you are looking for something like Stephen King, you are in the wrong place but as the reviewer said, if you like Lovecraft, Poe or Kafka you are on the right track.

a band made a song of one of his stories : Current 93 - I Have a Special Plan for This World it is very dark and experimental (certainly not for everyone) did you read his non-fiction book on nihilism beforehand?

This was my first experience with Ligotti, though it will not be my last. I didn’t know about the Current 93 song. My favorite from the few of theirs songs I have heard is “The Seahorses Rise to Oblivion”. Thanks for cueing me to this one! I hope you had a great start to this week, Kristian. Cheers, Jack

I know I’m late to this, but not only did Current 93 work with Ligotti on the words, he actually has played guitar on the recordings of their interpretations of his work! Though he obviously would never dare speak into a microphone 😂

@@ramblingraconteur1616 Thanks! I've read some disturbing books before and have enough faith in my own beliefs that I don't think I would actually slip into nihilistic madness. But it seems like the winter's already too gloomy a time to read it lol. During the winter, especially with the pandemic, it can be nice to read more escapist stuff.
