The first time I listened to Start of Something Beautiful I was driving to work at around four-thirty in the morning. There was a thick fog bank and the bottom of it was around 9 or 10 feet off the ground, low enough so that the tops of the street lights were in it, but it was pretty clear underneath. No other cars on the road as I drove through the town. And then that section of the song that starts at 6:05 on your video kicked in. I got goosebumps for the next several minutes driving just beneath that cloud on a deserted street with the street lamps illuminating the fog from the inside and listening to that incredible section of the song for the next several minutes. I'll never be able to re-create that experience, but I want to drive through the desert at three am on a clear dark night in a convertible under the stars with that section of the song looping. That part of the song was written for that.

In the american version of the album there is a 10th track called "She's Moved On" which is sort of a improvement of their track Shemovedon from the Lightbulb Sun album. With this song I feel the album Deadwing ends even better, 100% recommended.

I like Wilson`s solo stuff. But God, I miss Porcupine Tree. Also you should give a listen to Pineapple Thief.

I do, even though I am new to them. I have seen a video of Pineapple Thief, live, and I really enjoyed them. They seem like a lighter version of Porcupine Tree.

@@frankov_83 I am having a slow go with Tool, although I enjoy what I have heard from Fear Inoculum. I find Maynard’s lyrics challenging. Someone once said, in a comment, that Danny Carey must have four brains - I think the same could be said for Gavin. What do you think?

Really enjoyed following Deadwing again along with you guys. I have a tough time deciding between which album is the best and which is the 'least best' of Porcupine Tree so I have given up on that a long time back. Every album and each song within each album is so unique and different that it's like choosing between your left eye and your right eye. One just cannot choose! I liked the idea of you reacting to the album in segments rather than individual songs. Makes the viewing and listening experience so much better. Hope to see you guys return with more PT albums soon, there isn't just enough material (read appreciation) of PT on the internet. For the next album I would suggest "Lightbulb Sun". It's a tremendous piece of art and is sort of a transitional phase for PT when they were moving towards the more mass appeal music from their highly experimental earlier music. It is definitely a joy ride with one of the all time epics "Russia on Ice". Thank you for your time and support for PT. Love, cheers and goodluck from New Delhi, India. 🇮🇳

WRT the long silence at the end of "Glass Arm Shattering": Several versions of the CD-release of "Deadwing" included a bonus track which was a new version of the song "Shesmovedon" _(all one word)_ which was originally released on the album "Lightbulb Sun". Due to *that,* there is an extra five minutes of absolute silence tacked on the end of "Glass Arm Shattering". It's there just to put some distance between the songs of this album and the bonus song which has absolutely nothing to do with "Deadwing". So if you check the version of "Deadwing" in the iTunes music store, there is no bonus song and the song "Glass Arm Shattering" is six minutes twelve seconds long, instead of being eleven minutes twelve seconds. The same thing is true if you check the MP3-version of the album which is sold on Amazon.com . This tactic has been used on other CD's from a variety of artists which have some sort of "bonus" or "hidden" song on them. They want the silent break between the main album and the bonus songs, but they don't want to add in a track which is nothing but silence. If they did the silence as a separate track, then everyone would just skip the track. So they tack the silence on to the last song of the main album. I hate it when record companies do that!

Memory is indeed a subject that Steven Wilson loves. The most explicit song he made about it is "Perfect Life" on his "Hand.Cannot.Erase" solo album. It's very different from his usual stuff, half the song is spoken words, but I think you'd like it ! His solo albums would make great reactions in the future. H.C.E and "The raven that refused to sing and other stories" are the most interesting in my opinion, the second one being the most "classic prog album" he made.

Actually great songs to fall asleep to. When I travel on planes, I always have PT in the mix. Some bands create tunes you can tap your foot to... some create magical atmospheres you can live in for a moment. heh

I would say Deadwing is a good album, but I def prefer Fear of a Blank Planet, In Absentia, Signify, and Lightbulb Sun easily. Maybe go through the Pale Communion album by Opeth sometime or do a song off of there?

Glass Arm. One of my favorite PT works. It never really goes anywhere. It stays right where it belongs. "I Can't lose You" by Type O Negative works the same way. It starts but never really goes anywhere. It's just right where it stays.

There is this amazing band with an absolutely powerhous of a singer. Check out the band Jinjer. They are a Ukrainian progressive metal band that mixes many genres of music into their songs. I'd suggest checking out their song Pisces live session. Their vocalist Tatiana's lyrics are very meaningful and are almost poetry. BTW don't let her pretty face fool you she is a beast on the microphone.

Shortly after "Deadwing" was released PTree released a CD-single which had a single-edit version of "Lazarus", along with two more songs done at the same time; "So-called Friend" and "Half-light". "Half-light" was originally intended to be the final song on the album, but then Steven switched that last song to be "Glass Arm Shattering". Personally I think "Half-light" works slightly better in that slot. "So-called Friend" is another good song (much more energetic than "Half-light" and "Glass Arm Shattering"!), but I'm not sure that it was tied to the theme of "Deadwing". So I think that makes more sense as a song to show up as part of a separate single.
