Somnath Light and Sound show inaugurated
Somnath (Gujarat): Rs 4.35 crore 35-minute long Light and sound show of famous Somnath temple in its new 3D avatar in legendary actor Amitabh Banchchan's voice has been launched finally in presence of Gujarat Chief Minister and others.
The final phase of pre-launching works involved setting up new control room and other technicalities for the new show. The show is owned by Tourism Corporation of Gujarat.
It was decided to upgrade the laser based show which had started way back in 2001. The previous version had voices of Bollywood actors Amrish Puri and Paresh Raval. The new show in a three dimensional (3 D) version has Amitabh Bachhan's voice. Paresh Rawal's voice has also been included in the new show.
The laser based light and sound show, which throws light on the historic background of the temple also famous for its grandeur, is organized after evening aarati behind the temple and is very popular among visitors.

there is sum information missing in this , Mehmood Ghazni was invading the Pindi Bhatias in Kabul & Peshawar area against the Bhatia king Jaypala & later his son Anandpala after Jaypala got defeated he commited Suicide & later his son Anandpala decided to take revenge & attacked Mehmood with all his might & army . Mehmood was petrified this time & decided to stop attacks into India later he deiced to attack Kashmir but was unsuccessful & had to retreat. during this time his guide & philosopher Al-Biruni had visited famous temples in India & during his visit to Somnath he disguised himself as a Hindu & entered the temple to know more about it & saw the golden doors sandlewood flooring & the 1000 kg ling of lord shiva with lots of precious stones on it hanging in mid air which was a unique thing given the fact the ling was dam heavy & hanging in mid air with no suport whatsoever it was truly miraculous & he mentioned this in his book when Mehmood read this he decided to attack the temple & made his way via Balochistan & then to lahore punjab where he attacked Trilochanpalla & then went to straight to Cholistan & then to Haryana where he fought with the Jats & slowly to Ajmer which was known as Ajaymeru where he fought another battle with the local king for his refusal to suport him in his expedition. from Ajmer straight to Surat where he ransacked the city for precious diamonds & other jewellary. finally reaching Junagadh & Somnath temple where he asked the temple pundits to surrender the wealth including gold silver & precious stones but due to their refusal to entertain him he attacked the temple with full force but he never knew the devotees were equally strong & soldiers themselves more than 2lakh people from both sides lost their lives in the battle of Somnath. Finally Mehmood entered the temple & tried to demolish the lingam but was unsuccessful due to its strong structure & weight. more than 500 men hammered & nailed the lingam for 7days & finally the lingam was broken into pieces which was taken to Ghazni along with gold silver & precious stones. Now the best part & unknown fact which no historians have told people is Mehmoods repentance of breaking the Somanth ling when he fell ill & suffering from skin diseases his well wisher told him to rebuild the temple & thus in his final years time he went to Somnath again & rebuild the temple & the lingam. Thus vowing never to attack any temple in his life .
