You have to hear the whole thing. I posted the link but, of coarse, yt took me down. And keep in mind, not only did Autotune not exist, she was not lip syncing. This was recorded in one piece right there on set. 💕

The fact that Judy could still produce this incredible performance aged 16 while enduring the abuse of constantly being fed uppers and downers by insane Hollywood executives is remarkable beyond belief.

Shirley Temple was first up for the role. But Shirley was under contract to another movie studio and they would not lend Shirley to MGM who was doing the film. Negotiations broke down and the deal fell through due to unforeseen circumstances.

Female crooners would fall more under the title of torch singer or chanteuse. Judy passed away in 1969 not '66 but still far too early. Yes the song was written specifically for the film and Judy. The Tin Man was supposed to be played by Buddy Ebsen but he proved to be extremely allergic to the original makeup required for the role and landed in the hospital in critical condition which is when Jack Haley was brought aboard and the makeup changed to something less toxic. Liza Minnelli is still with us at 77 but has been plagued with addictions throughout her life which she has fought with varying degrees of success. She has been mostly out of the public eye of late, she contracted viral encephalitis many years ago and still deals with the lingering effects of it.

She's crooning in this song, but the woman was not solely a crooner. She had a massive voice and such dynamic control and TONE for days. Incredible singer/actress.

Judy sang the original song at 16 years old. "Over the Rainbow", also known as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", is a ballad by Harold Arlen with lyrics by Yip Harburg. It was written for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, in which it was sung by actress Judy Garland in her starring role as Dorothy Gale

I thought you were going to react to the Garland version of the song, but most of the time was spent talking about Patti Labelle and a guy named Eric! lol

Shirley Temple was MGM's first choice to play Dorothy but she was under contract to 20th Century Fox. Judy Garland proved to be the perfect Dorothy!!!

Liza's not dead, she played in the movie Author with Dudley Moore in 1981, very funny movie. Judy was placed on pills to keep her weight down by the studios who told her she was chubby. Combining that with her finding out her husband was actually a homosexual kind of sent her off the deep end.
